New LCD or Digital SLR camera?

With my portion of the tax return my wife and I are getting I have the choice of a new LCD monitor or a Digital SLR. The price range of the monitor would have to be $300 or less, and the camera would be $600 or less. I was just looking for opinions on products within those price ranges in addition to what I am finding online. My criteria are (unless you can convince me otherwise):

Monitor:
Has to be widescreen
DVI output would be ok, but not required since only one of my PC's has it.
This one seems pretty nice.

Camera:
Needs to have interchangeable lens options (though I think this is all current DSLR's).

Agreed, it's not much more money and it's pretty much the gold standard for LCD monitors. There's a thread in the general section for a cheap 24" monitor from some company I've never heard of, but it looks good and has decent specs if you wanna check that out. I'd go with one of those, but cameras don't really interest me (can it take pictures and upload them? sold!) so maybe someone else can recommend a good camera.

Unless you're a camera junkie, you'll get way more use out of a monitor. Assuming you're a gamer, which if you're on this site you more than likely are.
