It's One Piece lol. The only non-flashback characters that have died so far in the entire manga are Ace and Whitebeard.

I mean, I'm happy we're fleshing out the plot a little but I want this arc to reach it's finale already

The fact that Fujitora is on the island just eliminates all the tension for me. If the birdcage was really about to shred people in the center, he could easily just take out the weakened Doflamingo himself.

He also follows the whole Honorable samurai trope. He wouldnt let countless innocents get slaughtered because saving them would mean helping pirates.

Doflamingo is also still a shichibukai. When shit started hitting the fan, there were moments dedicated to Fujitora and his vice-admiral and all the marines discussing why they can't intervene in the situation outside of just trying to protect the people. In fact, I'm enthusiastic and made an effort to find the moment:

Fujitora's hands are bound by marine law, so he can't do anything other than leaving it up to Luffy and Co. which he eventually decides to do as the birdcage shenanigans occur

Edit: Looking even further into past chapters, there's even one called "Fujitora's Outlook" where he basically says he can't do shit to Doffy now even though he wants to and has to bide his time before trying to eliminate the Shichibukai system

Fujitora stated in that very chapter that his form of justice was to protect the citizens. Doflamingo wasn't directly threatening them at the time, and he thought that Luffy's actions had a decent chance of harming the citizens, so Luffy was a higher priority.

That's no longer the case with birdcage threatening to kill every single citizen in the entire country.

Was that the breaking of a sword upon a rubber body without haki? Either his anger made him stronger, he got a sayian powerup after the nap, or that sword was secretly made of plywood.
