2H vs 1H question

I don't have any 2H melee jobs, the only jobs I have that melee are 1H, PLD, BLU, NIN. Now, I know the 2H buff is pretty big, but how massive is it, since I haven't experienced it first hand?

I was parsing a recent PT I was in, NIN (me), DRK/SAM, DRG/NIN, BRD, BRD, RDM @ Mamool Ja. Without getting into all the gear, mine is pretty good, above average, but not fantastic (haidate, senji/perdu, swift, etc, no toreadors or dusk+1 or w/e), 5/5 str, 4/4 crit, workin on katana merits 2/4. I ate sushi, dunno what if anything the DRK and DRG ate. Songs were 2x march 2x minuet. Parse looked like this, total %:

NIN/WAR (me): 38%
DRK/SAM: 34%
DRG/NIN: 28%

What is bothering me is the DRK/SAM was absolutely horrendous. He had 3 pieces of AF1 on, his only acc was a Chiv Chain. Typical Ruby Rings, Warwolf, NQ Smilodon. He was engaging slowly, he'd cast crap like Poison, not use Abs-TP often, etc. Now, how is it possible someone THAT bad at XP can be only 4% behind a properly geared 1H job? If he had been an above avg DRK, some dusk, homam, proper acc gear, merits, would I have been totally blown out of the water, like 40%/28%? I had figured it was unlikely i'd level 2H DD job in the near future, so I was going to work on my NIN a bit, but this makes me wonder if it's worth it, aside from just plain liking the job Or am I deluding myself into thinking i'm actually decent at the job?

Welcome to 2008? <_> The DRK shouldn't be casting ANY spells if he wants parse well, and why the fuck would you invite DRG/NIN. . ever?

To answer your question: It takes a disgusting NIN (Usukane, Kikoku, etc.) to touch any decently geared two-hander now. Parse against a well geared WAR/SAM, SAM, DRK/SAM, or DRG/SAM and you'll see what I mean immediately.

be happy it wasn't a war/sam with the same gimpy gear (but 2h weapon), he probly would have outparsed you anyways.

i don't think it's fair to compare a 2h weapon job like drk to a ninja on the basis of damage. the simple fact of it is that 2h weapon jobs dominate cause of the extra acc and atk from the str and dex bonus and the massive base damage, but usually for those jobs the weapon rating is A+ which is a huge help atk and acc-wise.

i would say it would be worth it to keep going, if only to make yourself a better tank that will hold hate just a little longer off those other heavy DD.

It was a pick up PT in the early morning :/ Yeah, I know, pick up PTs, but damn ~_~ I knew the DRK was crap, but wow, it's just a bit crazy now for XP. I'm used to either horrible pick up PTs, or PTing with really well geared DDs, so I know i'll get my ass handed to me, but it's a little disheartening to know I worked for gear, merits, spent a bunch of gil, camped mobs, and DRK McFuckwit over there can almost keep up with me in XP in AF1 -_- Guess it's time to do either SAM DRK WAR or DRG ~_~

As far as tanking, like guy above me said, it's not likely XD I have a really well geared PLD, my NIN never gets to tank, unless it's like Limbus~ I just figured "Well, this is the only job I have with good DD capability, might as well max it, cuz I won't level a 2H anytime soon" but now my changing is thinking.

I'm not a big DD fan, but it's the one place I don't have job versatiltiy for LS, so I need to level one serious DD. Not that it's not fun, it's just the pain of getting job #11 to 75.

with 11 jobs do you think having another is going to really matter? I am sure your ls will probably have you on the ones they are use to you coming.

Hey now, I did get outparsed by two WAR/NINs decked out in Adaberks and Ridills. Me? My gimpy, non-merited, non-perdu voulge gaxing WAR/SAM was only 2% behind. And we were fighting mamoolses.

So if you want to be a decent 1H DD, all you need is a Ridill.

DRK/SAM has outparsed nin ever since the /SAM update. however, NIN was still a better exp job (due to not taking damage). The 2 handed patch made DRK more viable as a merit DD since the extra damage makes the mp spent abit more worth it.

The 2 handed update put DRK attack in the 500s with good accuracy without zerk or food, Making meat a no brainer which is why DRK is so good now, on my NIN i find myself stuck with sushi most of the time (haste setup).

If you were to level one of those jobs I'd recommend SAM. I love DRK and all but I know its not the best.

I'm pretty split between SAM and DRK. I don't have any major multi-hit weapon for DRK, but aside from that I have 5/5 Homam and Ares body, n.head, and other various abj. For SAM I'd have Haidate, no D.Head/D.Legs/Osode. But I guess i'll end up picking which when I level /SAM to 37 at least (my DRK has been 37 forever for RDM sub). I've met quiet a few people "taking up SAM to 37" who ended up going all the way.

Askar is better for DRG, IMO. Unless you're /mage and using too much mp.

Did trolls last night with SAM SAM DRG MNK (all /NIN) as DDs, and the final parse finished approximately 27% 26% 25% 22%, respectively. I'd pull up the parse dump but stupid DirectParse isn't letting me. =(

Started off at 20k in to 74, the party was made for him to get 75. ;D
