    New computer freezes on boot

I just built a new computer for a friend, and at first it was just randomly freeze on boot. It would randomly freeze at the part where it has the windows logo when the blue bar is scrolling by. It would hang for a second and it will sometimes continue and it sometimes won't. I was hoping a windows update would help so I continued doing those. The problem still persisted. The computer runs 100% fine when it is actually fully booted.

    Intel Core 2 Duo E4600
GIGABYTE GA-EP43-DS3L LGA 775 Intel P43 ATX Intel Motherboard
    Geforce 9600GT 512MB

I have never seen this problem before, and I have tried some research and have had no solutions work. I have tried adjusting the bootup programs and services and that had no effect. Any help is greatly appreciated

Trying booting with one stick of ram (and then the other) and see if you still freeze on boot. If you don't, run memtest86 on the ram to see if it's malfunctioning.

It's one 2GB stick, so I will just skip to the memtest thingy then

edit: hhmm seems i need a floppy drive to run this test, i don't have a floppy drive to use. Any suggestions?

edit2: nvm I just saw the ISO image download.

Ran the memtest, and no errors occured. The freezing is still happening, and it's been freezing like 10 times in a row and am still trying to boot it up.

Botched Windows install? If it's a relatively fresh install, reformatting may do the trick.

Yeah, either reinstall windows, or start stripping down components. Take out your video card, sound card, unplug all the usb devices, strip it down as much as you can. If it works fine after that, start adding things in one by one until you find your defective component.

Yea, it freezes everytime now, but boots into safe mode, I am going to try a fresh install. The mobo doesn't have onboard video, so if I need to, I will use mine to test later.

Reseat your CPU. It sounds like it's throttling/shutting off. Make sure you use thermal paste.

I did use thermal paste, I narrowed it down to it happening when I have the video drivers installed. There are no problems when the video card driver's aren't installed. I might try some omega drivers or maybe look around the internet for similar problems.

I got the drivers installed but they aren't working, device manager recognizes the device but it says that the driver's ren't actually installed.

Apparently there is a fix for some vga compatibility and I need to flash the bios.

Re: New computer freezes on boot

Ok, it says that the drivers have been installed. If I tried to install the drivers from the disk, the screen would go black and then just not do anything. So, I flashed the BIOS for something that had to deal with VGA compatibility. Then I downloaded the latest drivers from nvidia, the install goes and then the computer restarts. It doesn't freeze but when it boots up you can tell the drivers aren't installed. I go under device manager and it recognizes the device but it says the drivers aren't installed, click reinstall drivers to reinstall them. I do that and it starts the process and then this message pops up. So, I try to do the ones on the cd again, and it asks me if I want to procede saying the ones on the cd are older than the ones I have installed.

the file 'nv4_mini.sys' on windows driver cabinet is needed

I can't figure what is wrong or what is going on. I also tried the drive cleaner pro in safe mode and everything.

I don't know if this is a motherboard issue and I should call Gigabytes techsupport tomorrow.

Any other idea's will be greatly appreciated.
