I've never read a single comic in my life and I know Deadpool > everybody. But I was a huge gambit fan from the show. He was my favorite as a child.

Needs moar Omega Red.
The last thing we need is more pointless wolverine enemies.
Since this is the Deadpool Thread of Greatness, I have to say... I've rather been enjoying the new comic run. I was very worried, especially since it was being introduced on a Crossover tie-in, but it's definitely been worth buying. The last decent comic Marvel put out spawned off of a crossover was Heroes for Hire, Misty Knight edition, and that ended after a year from poor sales. I don't know why, but Deadpool always seems to be flirting with the edge between cancelation and demand for return... Maybe they cancelled the last one to finally get Cable's name out of the title? Funny, since Cable's new series is one of the only other really good books marvel's been putting out.
Just watched the trailer, I am totally disgusted. I bought and read Wolverine from issue 1 on. I had bought and read every Uncanny X-Men from issue 121 until Chris Claremont left. I got every graphic novel and comic with Wolverine in it for years.
This movie looks like total shit. From the perspective of a fan of the comics in my childhood its a travesty.
Interesting.
Sad thing is no one cares what you think. (or should) Make a movie to make it good, not so its up the true-to-the-comic version's ass word for word. If the movie sucks, fine....rip it a new asshole, but this whole "not true to the comic/graphic novel/book bullshit" pisses me off.
I'm kind of 50/50 on this one. Some parts seem exciting, but a few things nag on me.
I grew up on the animated series's Gambit, so not having the short hair/mask/brown trenchcoat is disappointing. Sabretooth looks decent enough.
Notice kid-wolverine has adamantium claws? Wonder what that's all about. If i remember right, wolverine had bone claws in the beginning, and the metal was graphed on top of those.
I think that had to be a dream, the whole having claws as a kid thing.
Liking Deadpool without reading comics is pretty stupid.
All comic based or novel based movies diverge from the original source material. What is important is what they hold true to. The character of Wolverine that so many fans love and which I believe Brian Singer and Hugh Jackman really strove for was the one Chris Claremont molded. Wolverine was around for a while before coming to the Uncanny X-Men Comic.
Well the reason I stopped reading X-Men and comics in general was what the guy who replaced Claremont did to Wolverine. He made Magneto so powerful he ripped the adamantium from Wolverine's body claws and all, but worse than that he left Wolverine with Bone claws. Implying he always had some sort of claws.
Really Wolverine was implanted with the claws when his skeleton was reinforced is the way it should have been. In the movie Wolverine volunteers for the procedure, in the comic he is kidnapped and it is forcibly done to him. And it wasn't some quick injection process, it took months of cutting open the skin and muscle pealing it back exposing the bone and fusing red hot segments of adamantium to his bone, then connecting the mechanical claw apparatuses to his nervous system. Two ways to look at it:
1. You are badass Logan who wouldn't thing you needed the adamantium bones and claws.
2. You are badass Logan who thinks unbreakable skeleton and claws would be cool.
I guess it's ok either way but it changes the character a some.
Well if the movie turns out to be good I can live with the lack of continuity between the movie and the comics. Just the trailer looks like movie is going to be about as good as Dare Devil or Electra.
I think the trailer looked pretty cool... I'm not an X-Men purist though. However, I am a LOST fanboy, and I must say... Josh Halloway (Sawyer) would have made a great Gambit >.>...
I too have been reading X-men/Wolverine comics for a looong time. Nowadays not so much as when I was younger but I still keep up when I can. Having said that, I disagree with some things Rowe said. The bone claws since birth/adamantium claws since weapon x arguement is silly. Personally, I thought it was pretty cool that the claws were there pre-adamantium. It was awesome to see him get in fights after Magneto had pulled off the metal and he would break claws. Also, Chris Claremont is not the gospel writer for Wolverine. Back in the early 80s he might have been great but his writing has most definitely not stood the test of time. I realized he was awful at the ripe age of 12. His plots were ok sometimes but his dialogue...horrid. I'm convinced his favorite word was 'hidey-hole'. He used that word alot, which in hindsight is kinda creepy.
I do agree though that the movies should be true to the spirit of the source material, like Spiderman 1 & 2, Batman Begins, etc. After seeing the latest preview of the Wolverine movie, it sorta kinda looks like it will be true to the source material but we'll find out after it's release.
Holy shit, that's a great call...though I don't know how well he could do the Cajun accent. Someone else who I think would be great as Gambit is Vincent Cassel, the guy who was the other thief in Ocean's 12 and Kirill in Eastern Promises. Think about it: he's got the look, he's French, and if he jacked up a little he could be badass.
They did ask Josh Halloway, but he declined because he felt it was too close to Sawyer.
"Snickt snickt, fucker, SNICKT SNICKT!! Lets see that crazy ass I love seeing so much!"
I think it looks pretty good, this and new transformers next summer, epic.
