I'm currently in the mood for an RTS game (laptop + playing @ work) My options are between:
Age of Empires 3
C&C Red Alert 3
Leaning towards AoE..but no one around here carries it and I'd prefer not ordering it from online.

I just recently downloaded C&C RA3 from a torrent to give a try and it actually isn't that bad, although it doesn't compare to the old versions imo, I don't like the computer AI of your ally (you have an ally in most if not all of the missions), although I haven't played it much and I'm sure their AI can be controlled. Red Alert 2 is still my favorite. I'd probably go for AoE3.
Age of Empires.
It's a bit old (2002) but try out No One Lives Forever 2. I downloaded it a week ago and it's a really hillarious comedy-espionage game. The game is designed so that you can play it "gun's blazing" or stealth your way so it works if you don't feel like waiting at certain points in the game. Lots of weapons and the scenery is always changing, I definately recommend it. : p
I also downloaded a game called Painkiller. It's kind of shit story-wise but as far as just running around blowing up zombies, you can pick up ridiculous weapons like one that shoots lightning charged shurikens which was pure win for me. Though it'll get repetitive pretty fast at least it did for me, I'd say its a good stress-relief game.
For multiplayer:
Team Fortress 2
Left 4 Dead
Counter Strike: Source
Quake 3 Team Fortress and ^
didn't read the whole thread and i know they were mentioned but
the MONKEY FUCKING ISLAND SERIES!!!!! is the best thing ever, you need a 386 to play them, enjoy
Physics engine:

This is all you need to know about Crysis. The story and gameplay itself are rather bland or generic.
Descent: Freespace and Freespace are 2 incredible, Neverwinter Nights for sure and Knights of The Old Republic is possibly one of the best games ever made.
Its already been said, but it needs to be said again: Total Annihilation.
If you are a fan of RTS at all, you will enjoy this game.
Bumping this thread:
Looking for some killer games to play that are really PC demanding. I can run Crysis at full settings but only played the demo (not sure If I want to buy full game).
I have a torrented version of Fallout3, can't use xpacs on it so not sure If I want to buy full game yet.
I'm REALLY into shooters, used to play FPS competitively, looking for something to break the WOW/COD2(4) cycles...
I love online mutiplayers of course, I have only played just outside the first vault of fallout3 and not sure If I'll stick with it.
If you are up for some DOS emulation, there is a lot of awesome abandonware.
abandonia
Mount & Blade is a pretty dope medieval game that initially looks sorta cheap, but it's addicting as fun as heck.
Did anyone say Peggle? That game is pretty fun and addicting. Especially for $9.99.
What okan said about crysis. There are plenty of other games you can play if you want eyecandy and story/gameplay to boot, fallout 3 being one of them.
Master of Orion 2.
I need to find more games like Civ/HoMM games, but haven't been able to find any near the quality of them.
