It's great to have actual inputs on that and not just bashing, thanks everyone i'm gonna use those advice the best I can. I have other jobs to merit on but my main always been paladin and if I can find a way to merit with it, fuck I will lol.

Yea, I think you will like Pld/sam with GS. It is consistent damage and it is fun to get away from tanking a bit.
The bashing all went to KI when that thread first started, you can see the first few pages that ppl were actually killing the idea and almost didn't give it a try. (some freaking guy called me a moron for supporting the idea lol, but we know better now)
I did PLD/SAM and Gsword in half-LS/half-pickup merit parties most of the way 70-75 in the two weeks after the initial 2hander patch when it was really broken. We'd get these NINs and gimp WARs join who were still living in 2xAxe la la land and they were "lolDDPLD" and then little later they were crying. You really can do proper damage with it, I was even inspired enough to buy the Perdu Gsword for it, sadly that's been in storage for the best part of a year since... my current LS that I joined afterwards doesn't do silly jobs in merits and I cba to try explain it to a pickup group even if it would out-do your average shitty AF1 WAR or Domaru SAM. But yeah, do not try to do it wearing PLD AF and a ring-that-does-not-yield, get proper DD gear and go for it. I've had some sad bastards try it in XP parties since wearing Gallant gear and it's just /facepalm. Doing PLD with GSword is not afar from playing PUP. If you try to gimp it up you are really the saddest gimpshit possible but if you do it right you will out-do mediocre "proper" melees. Mind you, I'm positive that PLD with GSword done right would still outparse a PUP.
Subduer and the other weapons which have PERMANENT latent effects when active have their weapon rank based upon their LATENT DMG.
Weapons like Blau Dolch which have a TEMPORARY latent effect (TP <100%) have their weapon rank based upon their NON-LATENT DMG.
nope, not so. I used to full time subduer pre 2H patch, and my critical hit is 303 capped.
I used to wonder why in the world my algol critical cap higher than my subder, but then I realize it follows non latent damage.
You really need to use it to know that, I know for sure it capped at 303, not a single doubt. 100% not wrong about this, it has weapon rank of 8 trust me. Algol used to cap at 306.
It is funny that I actually asked this question on BG cuz I couldn't figure out why my subduer was at 303 when base damage was same. And the answer I got? was cuz it follows non latent base damage. I am not sure when this was discussed to death but I would like to get a link of it.
Edit: this is the kind of thing that you won't be aware of unless you have been using it for a long long time. And normally without knowing it you would think it is the other way around. I know it for a fact that it follows non latent, at least for subduer it is.
From my testing (in 2007) Heart Snatcher uses the latent damage rating for weapon rank.
Tested it too on Dissector, however long ago that was.
then subduer works differently then. Is there a way to test this with the current pdif? Never over 303 I know that for a fact, asked and test by others on the thread that I asked back then and same result.
I capped Great Sword on War to have light SC options (then KJ hits a year later, lol), but yeah... I am definitely looking forward to Spinning Slash.
I have to wonder, what are peoples experiences with Martial Sword and SS?
It goes 2.5 > 3.0 > 3.5, which is pretty fuckin significant... has it just not really been messed around with cause the Martial has lower base damage? Dmg 76 Dly 444 + TP bonus vs Dmg 85 Dly 444 + 6% Crit.
2 Things I think of.
As long as your not going outside your role(invited to tank then tank ect) and your not making the mages ability to heal a lot harder then I say go for it.
I have had a DRK tank in woodlands once, he used the 1 of 2 shields DRK can wear with war sub and held hate with stun, souleater and all that we even pulled good xp/hour.
Honestly if it pulls good xp an hour who cares what setup/role you have? It could be RDM RDM RDM RDM RDM RDM for all I care, good xp is good xp.
I'd think that a Pld would contribute more in later TP burn style ToAU parties by bashing the thing as hard as he can and using his innate sturdiness (even without a shield, Pld's take hits better than most jobs) and constantly refreshing MP to keep things going smooth.
Invited to tank in a greater colibri meripo? That still exist? Alot of the times (90%) I have my own bard from LS to start a meripo, we just grab a RDM and other DDs if there's none in LS.
On another note, is Algol worth getting just for this?
Hmmm.
We don't camp HNMs so I was referring to buying if needed.
We have a total of 1 DRK in our LS.
I wouldn't bother paying for one, personally. In the end, you're only paying for a fire proc and a 3% triple proc.
That's kinda marginal, for the sake of exp, in my opinion.
Edit: If you really don't have anything else to throw gil towards, then by all means, go for it, though.
I do but I can't help but feel extra gimp with skofnug. Any AH GS wouldn't make me feel better.
How much would you spend on Algol anyway?
Get a Perdu GSword if you have IS.
Not much, 1M~ pretty sure I can get one for that price.
And I don't have second lieutenent...... =x
