With a new Star Wars trilogy in the works, comedian and filmmaker Mel Brooks says he’s actively working on a sequel to his iconic spoofing Spaceballs, which would begin filming after the December 2015 release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
During a recent appearance on Adam Carolla’s Take a Knee podcast, Brooks confirmed his desire to make the film, which would be entitled Spaceballs: Search For More Money. He said his intention is to bring back as many as the film’s original cast members as possible, including Rick Moranis, who has all but retired from acting in recent years.
In a 2014 interview with Parade, Brooks mentioned that screenwriter Tom Meehan had “some great ideas” for a sequel. However, Moranis’ participation (or lack thereof) has proved the biggest obstacle. “Without Rick, I wouldn’t do it,” Brooks explained. “I’ve got the helmet in storage, just waiting for him.” He added that he’s spoken with Moranis a few times over the years, but he’s “really strict” about remaining retired.

“The Legend of Zelda,” one of the most popular videogame series of all time, is in the works as a television show at Netflix.
The video streaming service is in the early stages of developing a live action series based on “Zelda,” about an ordinary boy named Link who must rescue a princess named Zelda and save a fantasy world called Hyrule, said a person familiar with the matter. As it seeks writers to work on the show, Netflix is describing it as “Game of Thrones” for a family audience, this person said.
Netflix is said to be working closely with Nintendo, the Japanese game developer that has made about 20 “The Legend of Zelda” games since the original, which was released in the U.S. in 1987.
Nintendo is very protective of its intellectual property and has allowed few adaptations over the years. An animated “Legend of Zelda” series ran for just one season in 1989. A 1993 movie based on Nintendo’s “Super Mario Bros.” was an infamous bomb.
As it is still seeking a writer to work on the series, Netflix has a long road to travel before a “Legend of Zelda” series actually becomes a reality. It’s also possible that Netflix or Nintendo will kill the project before it gets off the ground.
given that it's in discussion stage I didn't want to get people too excited, lol
so FXX aired something called 'Winter Dragon," that seems to be a pilot for a Wheel of Time series at 1:30 AM eastern.

Lionsgate & Telltale Games team-upAs part of the continued diversification of its content business and recent entry into the game space, Lionsgate, a premier next generation global content leader, has made a significant investment in leading game developer and publisher Telltale Games, the two companies announced today. As part of its investment, Lionsgate Chief Executive Officer Jon Feltheimer will also join the Telltale Board of Directors.
The investment will continue the extension of Lionsgate's film and television brands into the game space and will bring Lionsgate's expertise in creating and marketing premium content to Telltale's unique narrative-driven, storytelling approach to gaming. The collaboration will also enable the two companies to explore opportunities to co-develop existing and original IP into episodic games and television.
Telltale has emerged as an industry leader in narrative-driven episodic games with the blockbuster hit The Walking Dead, which has sold 8.5 million copies and topped sales charts on Xbox Live, PlayStation Network and Steam, as well as the hit Game of Thrones, based on the smash television series, The Wolf Among Us, the episodic interactive graphic adventure video game based on Bill Willingham's Fables comic book, and Tales from the Borderlands, Telltale's adaptation of the acclaimed PC, Mac and console video game title from Gearbox Software and 2K Games.
"Telltale is one of the premier storytellers in the gaming world today," said Lionsgate Chief Executive Officer Jon Feltheimer. "Their leadership in narrative-driven episodic games, together with our investment and the potential opportunities created by our premium content expertise, will continue to strengthen their ability to offer exciting new avenues of storytelling to their next generation audiences across a broad range of platforms."
"Lionsgate is one of the most innovative, entrepreneurial and impressive content companies in the world today. I'm delighted to welcome an experienced executive like Jon, a leader who shares our unique vision, to our Board," said Telltale CEO Kevin Bruner. "Lionsgate has a great track record in developing and marketing feature films as well as platform-defining premium scripted television. This partnership will accelerate Telltale's ability to create not only original games, but episodic television series based on our game properties – an area at the cutting edge of industry growth."
"Our partnership with Kevin Bruner and his team at Telltale continues to accelerate our momentum in the game space," said Lionsgate President of Interactive Ventures & Games Peter Levin. "The convergence between premium filmed entertainment brands and original game properties is a natural direction in which to continue diversifying our content business, and Telltale is the perfect partner with whom to explore this dynamic area of growth."
Comic Book Writers Matt Fraction & Kelly Sue DeConnick Sign Deal With Universal TV, Will Adapt ‘Sex Criminals’ To Series/
Comic book power couple Matt Fraction and Kelly Sue DeConnick are venturing into television with a two-year overall deal at Universal TV. Under the pact, the married duo will adapt some of their comic books as well as original TV series concepts. They also plan to use their Milkfed Criminal Masterminds production company as a TV launchpad for other comic creators’ IP.
“We’re always excited to usher in fresh voices to the television space, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to partner with Matt and Kelly Sue, a fantastic pair whose award-winning comics are as deeply realized as they are entertaining,” said Universal TV EVP Bela Bajaria.
As their MCM is expanding into television, Fraction and DeConnick have hired Lauren Sankovitch as Managing Editor. One of the first projects the company is developing under the Uni TV deal is an adaptation of the Eisner and Harvey Award-winning comic Sex Criminals, created by Fraction with partner Chip Zdarsky. Image Comics’ Sex Criminals, named the best comic of the year in 2013 by Time Magazine, centers on a female librarian and male actor who discover they can freeze time when they orgasm.
Fraction is a multiple Eisner Award-winning comic book writer known for his work on Hawkeye, The Invincible Iron Man, The Mighty Thor, Avengers Vs. X-Men and other Marvel comics. He has created such Image Comics properties as ODY-C, Casanova, Satellite Sam, Last of the Independents and Five Fists of Science. Fraction was a consultant on the Iron Man 2 film. In TV, he wrote an episode of FX animated comedy Archer.
In 2013, DeConnick debuted on the independent scene with Pretty Deadly, a brutal mythological Western co-created with Spanish artist Emma Rios. That led to Image Comics setting DeConnick’s independent venture Bitch Planet, a riff on women in prison exploitation films of the 60’s and 70’s. In the mainstream market, the Eisner-nominated DeConnick is known as the force behind the character Carol Danvers’ reinvention as Captain Marvel (the book that gave rise to the Carol Corps). DeConnick is the first female writer of an ongoing Avengers title in Avengers Assemble.
Fraction and DeConnick are repped by Rothman Brecher Agency and attorney Shep Rosenman.
Excite. 1 day and its 3x the initial goal, might hit max for 12 ep season 1 by end of the day.

Legendary TV, Matt Tolmach Adapting Comic Book 'Lazarus'
Greg Rucka will write the series pilot for the story set in a dystopian future where a few families rule, protected by genetically altered humans.
In a competitive bidding war, Legendary Television and producer Matt Tolmach have acquired the rights to Greg Rucka and Michael Lark's dystopian-set comic book series, Lazarus for a scripted TV series.
First released in October 2013 by Image Comics, Lazarus centers on a futuristic world where 16 wealthy families rule society. Each family has a Lazarus, a genetically engineered, unkillable being, who protects the family. Forever Carlyle is a Lazarus, and the central character in the series. She uses force and deception to keep her family and their interests safe. The popular series examines class structure and explores universal themes like morality and love.
Rucka will write the series pilot episode, along with executive producing with Lark and Tolmach. David Manpearl of Matt Tolmach Productions will work alongside Tolmach, who is known for producing The Amazing Spider-Man franchise at Sony, on the project.
Rucka, a five-time Eisner award-winner, is known for his popular novel series Atticus Kodiak. He served as an executive producer on the movie Whiteout, starring Kate Beckinsale, which is based on his comic book series of the same name. Also, his novel and comic book series Queen & Country is set up at Fox.
Lark, a New York Times best-selling comic book artist, has received two Eisner Awards, both for his collaborative work with Rucka. His artwork has appeared in comics including Daredevil, Captain America and The Winter Soldier at Marvel and Gotham Central.
Lauren Whitney, who recently joined Legendary as president of scripted television, will oversee the project with Peter Johnson, Legendary’s evp of scripted development.
Angela Cheng Caplan of Cheng Caplan Company, Inc. sold Lazarus on behalf of lit agent David Hale Smith of Inkwell Management. Rucka and Lark are also repped by Stone, Meyer.
Legendary Television, which launched in 2013, has two series in preproduction: a co-production with Universal Cable Productions, Colony, which USA picked up to series, and the two-season order for the Netflix original series, Love, from creators Judd Apatow, Paul Rust and Lesley Arfin. As THR exclusively reported, they are also developing Carnival Row, a project from Guillermo del Toro and Rene Echevarria for Amazon.
