Macfarlane compared the Killjoys' relationship with law enforcement to private security firm Blackwater's relationship with the military in that it's its own entity that obeys laws within the system, but it doesn't have to follow strict rules. "The one rule that we follow is the saying, 'The warrant is all,' " explained Ashmore. "We basically do what we need to do — bending the rules, if that may be the case — to fulfill whatever the warrant is."

Cult sci-fi comedy feature Galaxy Quest is headed to television. I’ve learned that galaxyquestlogo Paramount Television is in the process of putting together a TV series project based on the 1999 DreamWorks movie about the cast of a long cancelled space TV show who become reluctant real space heroes when they are accidentally transported to a spaceship and tasked with saving an alien nation.

Like with other library movies, which Paramount is mining for TV series, Galaxy Quest is being adapted with key auspices from the film on board. That includes the feature’s writer, Robert Gordon — who is expected to pen the TV version — director, Dean Parisot, and producer Mark Johnson (Breaking Bad). The three are expected to executive produce the potential series along with Johnson’s Gran Via Prods. partner Melissa Bernstein.

During a recent interview, actor Tyler James Williams (The Walking Dead, Everybody Hates Chris) pointed out that "there aren't a lot of young, black superheroes." Two people in the background can be heard shouting to him "Static Shock" and "Spider-Man." Those suggestions elicit an interesting response from Williams.

"I don't know... What you're taking about," Williams says to Flicks And The City with a knowing smile. "But yeah no, it's great to see Static Shock is happening with Jaden."

The "Jaden" he refers to, is Will Smith's After Earth co-star and real-life son Jaden. Back in October, Smith was rumored for Static Shock, which Warner Bros. has been developing as a live-action digital series with Django Unchained producer Reginald Hudlin.

‘The Wicked + The Divine’ Comic To Be Adapted As TV Series By Universal TV

On the heels of The Wicked + The Divine comic by Kieron Gillen, Jamie McKelvie and Matt Wilson landing three Eisner Award nominations, including best new series, the breakout books are headed to TV. Universal Television has optioned the rights to the property for Matt Fraction and Kelly Sue DeConnick’s Milkfed Criminal Masterminds; they will produce the project through the pod deal they recently inked with the studio. In addition to adapting their own comics and developing original concepts, under the pact with Uni TV, Fraction and DeConnick had planned to use Milkfed as a TV launchpad for other comic creators’ IP, which is the case with The Wicked + The Divine. The Wicked + The Divine, which was launched by Image in June 2014, won the Best Comic at the 2014 British Comic Awards. In Bleeding Cool’s survey of 2014 Best of Year lists, it appeared in 12, the most of any new creator-owned series.

Gillen and McKelvie, repped by the Rothman Brecher Agency, first arrived on the comic scene with the release of their 2006 cult Image book Phonogram. They later collaborated for their GLAAD Award-winning run on Marvel’s Young Avengers. Gillen’s comic credits also include Marvel’s Star Wars: Darth Vader, Iron Man and Uncanny X-Men; Avatar’s Uber and Mercury Heat; and Image’s Three. McKelvie’s other work includes comics (Defenders, Secret Avengers, X-Men Season One), character costume design (Captain Marvel, Ms Marvel) and cover work (Nightcrawler, Ms Marvel, Captain Marvel).
