Konami and Marvel Announce X-Men Arcade for PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade
Konami and Marvel reach into the retro vault and revive the classic side-scrolling srcade brawler just in time for the Holiday Season.

El Segundo, Calif. - KONAMI and Marvel Entertainment announced today that X-Men Arcade is coming to PlayStation Network and Xbox LIVE Arcade for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft this year. Developed by Backbone Entertainment, this first ever home version of the popular 1992 cabinet arcade classic allows players to join their favorite X-Men characters in what is widely considered their first great video game appearance.

In X-Men Arcade, Cyclops, Colossus, Dazzler, Nightcrawler, Storm and Wolverine unite to use their special powers to save mankind from the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants and other terrible threats. Players will have to fight off hundreds of Sentinels, along with Super Villains such as Pyro, the Blob, Wendigo, Nimrod, the White Queen, Juggernaut and Mystique, as they battle their way to Island M to take down the Master of Magnetism, Magneto, and save Kitty Pryde and Professor Xavier.

X-Men Arcade brings the fun and excitement of the hit arcade game to next-generation consoles as players can engage in multiplayer action with 1-4 players supported locally and 1-6 players supported online. Online Drop-in multiplayer is activated, allowing anyone to jump in on the battle at any time. High-definition heads-up displays, menus and local/online leaderboards have also been integrated to track statistics and scores.

Players will be able to select the Custom Match Mode that will allow them to choose the kind of session they would like to join by setting the amount of players, difficulty and what level to start in to create a truly unique online experience. Players will also have the ability to select the Create Match Mode where they can establish themselves as the host and have the ability to control incoming players, number of players, difficulty setting, and starting level to have complete veto power over the match. For players looking for the ultimate X-Men challenge, multiple difficulty modes will also be available.

"Just like with our comics, Marvel has a rich history of great video games, and we're happy to play our part with KONAMI reintroducing this classic to fans of all ages," said Seth Lehman, Vice President of Digital Licensing for Marvel. "Fans have been clamoring for X-Men Arcade to hit consoles for 18 years now, and we're confident they'll find this re-release was worth the wait. The game looks and plays exactly like we remember it - all without the added worries of being low on quarters when you're closing in on Magneto."

Awesome port + options, PSN gets more than Xbox, Dec release

    Digital Leisure’s announce that Dragon’s Lair — a 1983 arcade classic
that’s been released on over 60 platforms — is coming to
PlayStation Network for the first time ever in high-definition. The
release will not only allow PlayStation 3 owners a chance to
experience the classic, but offer developer Digital Leisure a spot in
the record books for ‘Most Platform Ports Ever’.

The PlayStation Network version of Dragon’s Lair is remastered in
1080p high-definition, includes a visual moves guide, classic arcade
monitor view, online leaderboards, trophy support, PlayStation
Home rewards, and a ‘Watch Mode’ that allows players to view the
    entire animation without dying.

It’ll be out next week, on November 23, for $9.99.

Believe it or not, Spelunker HD is finally set to launch on the
PlayStation Network in North America today. The game, a re-
imagining of the 1983 platforming classic, originally launched on the
Japanese PlayStation Network on March 26, 2009.

Spelunker HD features brand new high-definition visuals, over 100
new levels, and both co-op and competitive multiplayer modes for
up to six players. The game has players navigating labyrinths in
order to reach an ancient statue. Along the way, players will fight
enemies, detonate bombs, using mining equipment, and collect items.

Those who’ve never played the classic NES game, worry not, as it’s
    included with Spelunker HD.

The game is available today on the PlayStation Store for $9.99.

Check out the launch screenshots at the gallery. The launch trailer
    can be found below.

I just went from owning one minis to five. >.>

Sony needs to drop the ERSB requirement so publishers will feel more inclined to price their minis more competitively. Shit shouldn't be anymore than $3 a pop, especially when the same game is on the iPhone App Store for half the price.

I'm not sure if I want Gundemonium or not. I like bullet hell games, but from what I've seen on youtube, the games don't look too hot.

HandCircus, the creative minds behind iOS’s Rolando, have announced their first console game this afternoon. Coming exclusively to PlayStation Network, Okabu is an “enchanting adventure” that follows the tale of two brothers, Kumulo and Nimbe, as they fight to save their world from industrialization.

Sackboy Prehistoric Moves is out for free for PS+ subscribers and those who got e-mailed a voucher code from Sony. It's a hefty 1.12gb download. Requires PS Move/Eye.

I was a bit disappointed by it. It'll be $6 next week for non-subscribers, and all it amounted to was essentially a level-pack for LitteBigPlanet1, except this is stand-alone with nothing transferable to LBP itself. As a stand-alone product it feels too much like a slimmed down tech demo, especially as far as the presentation goes.

Would have enjoyed it a lot more if it was just an add-on like the MGS & Pirates kits, since they both added new tools/skins/stickers/etc for the level editor. Prehistoric would have been a good addition to that since it adds in PS Move grabbable-objects and what not, but I guess MM was too busy with LBP2 perhaps, which probably explains why a different dev did Prehistoric.
(Prehistoric runs on LBP1's engine just fyi)

Also, for the love of god don't try to play it solo, get a buddy to handle the PS Move for you, too hard to multi-task a dualshock and ps move yourself.

On the PS+ subjected, I just picked it up last week while the 3-month bonus was in effect (I'm assuming it'll be gone after this month) since some upcoming freebies enticed me (such as Sam & Max Season 3 later this month), not sure if I'll keep it after the 15 months though, will see if Sony can make it worth my money. Discounts are nice, but I'm keeping track and seeing how long it takes for me to break even of the subscription cost via free games I actually give two shits for and discounts.

Kinda wish the free PSX/minis/DLC didn't expire after subscription ends if you choose to not continue it, but I guess that'd be asking for too much. ;/

@Kaisha - Yeah gundemonium isn't all that great. The screen size you get to work in isn't very large (as compared to something like Touhou((sp))) and the music is very 16-bit. For 7 dollars it might not be so bad, but I wouldnt recommend it at its normal price.

@Vendog - Local coop for the first playthrough was amazing. After that....it loses its luster pretty quickly xD. The problem with the game is everything you do is the campaign. "Missions" are chapters from the campaign. If they ever add true pick-up-and-play missions it would be much much better. (PSN-hyped exclusive so hopefully they will push for additional content)

Xenogears and Vagrant Story are finally coming to NA PSN, hopefully.

    http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/29/va...d-psp-release/

For over a year, we in North America have been taunted by the presence of Yasumi Matsuno's PlayStation masterpiece Vagrant Story on the European and Japanese PlayStation Stores. Now, depending on how optimistic you feel, there's new information that is either encouraging, or just another taunt. It's been rated by the ESRB for release on PS3 and PSP, suggesting that Square Enix plans to release it here ... eventually.

It's joined by ratings for other Square RPGs, including Threads of Fate, Xenogears, and Legend of Mana, along with Working Designs-published Arc the Lad 3 (and Ridge Racer Type 4, which doesn't fit the RPG theme at all, but is still noteworthy). We can't know from the ratings when these games will be published, but we're shocked to have some PSOne Classics on the way from someone other than MonkeyPaw Games.

The ESRB rated three PlayStation games this week: Destrega, Saiyuki: Journey West and Harvest Moon: Back to Nature for the PS3 and PSP. That can only mean one thing: they’re coming to the PlayStation Network.

Destrega was a fighting game developed by Koei, which used a Rock, Paper, Scissors fighting system and freedom of movement around the arena. Saiyuki: Journey West, also developed by Koei, was a tactical RPG based on the Chinese novel, Journey to the West.

Meanwhile, Harvest Moon: Back to Nature was the only Harvest Moon game ever created for the PlayStation, and re-used characters from Harvest Moon 64 with new lives and personalities.
