Believe it or not, it is highly unlikely that Obama did anything on this bill but sign it.

I'm not saying I agree with the outright ban of flavored cigs but you can't blame the black man for every problem in America.

All this will do is raise the price of said product.

    edit:

and there is a slight chance this might make said product even more popular.

This is what you'll have to put up with if you want universal health care. In Canada we've had similar laws like this years ago and we also have ridiculously high taxes on tobacco and alcohol. This is just something you'll have to deal with if your country is moving towards a more socialist/nanny state agenda.

    Top cause of cancer

According to the National Cancer Institute, smoking causes 30% of all cancer deaths in the U.S. and is responsible for 87% of cases of lung cancer. Not only does it affect the lungs, it can cause kidney, pancreatic, cervical, and stomach cancers and acute myeloid leukemia.

That, my friends, is the reason for the change in legislation. This change will, in turn, reduce health care costs which will then reduce insurance costs. The rising costs of cancer treatments in America play a huge role in the cost of healthcare benefits for employers. This move is just one step in the direction of healthcare reform for America. Obama is trying to fix a pandemic of lack of healthcare, not step on your civil liberties.

</sarcasm> I want to be free to drink copious amounts of <insert horribly toxic substance here> then expect my local hospital to nurse me back to health even though I have no way to pay for the care because I spent all my money on the cause of the problem. But that's ok. At least I have the liberty to inflict harm on myself. Nevermind the chain of events and expenses that go along with my rash line of thought. </end sarcasm>

I don't care about high taxes on smokes and booze, especially smokes. You can make decent swill yourself anyway. But banning certain types of cigarettes is retarded. Especially clove.

Believe it or not, it is highly unlikely that Bush did anything on most bills passed in his administration but sign it; that doesn't make it OK either.

I'm not going to blame every problem in America on Obama; most things that I have a problem with have to do with every Congress and President since Eisenhower, but I will certainly blame this one on him. He's the leader of the Democratic Party, who passed this bill, and he took an oath to uphold the Constitution, which in this particular case he's ignoring. This is a moronic bill and I will judge it, and him, accordingly.

Banning is stupid when they could just keep raising taxes on the shit until most people are forced to quit. Rather hear smokers whining about the prices than whining about their health improving.

Banning flavored tobaccos because people are retarded enough to think they are safer is ridiculous.

If they want to crack down on advertising or marketing that implies, even slightly, that it is safer, or the cool hip thing for the kids these days, fine. But banning these substances doesn't really make any sense.

How can we have an actual debate in this country over the legalization of marijuana when we're banning flavored tobacco?

Honestly I haven't felt like tobacco was "marketed towards kids" since Joe Camel disappeared. Ban ammonia chemistry, ban fiberglass in cigarettes. Flavors don't hurt you.

This is stupid, and that's coming from someone who has smoked about 2 cigarettes in my entire life and finds them pretty disgusting.

I doubt it. You realize how much of a storebought cigarette pack's price is just taxes? If there's going to be a cigarette black market just for those kinds you'll no longer be able to get by walking into your local 7-11, I doubt it'll be any higher than what the taxes made it.

What it really does is open the door to imported fruit/spice cigarettes, since the big tobacco companies will no longer be making them. At least, not here.

Djarum black clove was my first smoke ever, and is still an albeit occasional and rare treat for me instead of shisha (hookah tobacco). It's a shame to see them go, however, for those who are also fans of the clove, Djarum has already started making a "cigar", at least thats what it is marketed as, that is essentially the same exact thing as their regular clove cigs.

I visited australia a couple years back and their cigarette packs were awesome, lol... entire back of the box was a giant color picture of a diseased lung, premature baby, cancer xray, etc.

Hm, does this have any effect whatsoever on the major tobacco corporations?

I don't see them even remotely touched by this.
