You can't blame him for anything.

also my grandmother, a smoker of 50 years quit cold turkey as well. One day she woke up was out of them, and never had one from that day on.

Ok I can side with you in restaurants, but fucking bars? why are you going to a bar? to have fun let the people smoke there whats the big deal. thats a BS law I think.

Not that I'm arguing that big macs should be banned or anything. But saying cigarettes should be banned because you don't like the smell of it is pretty stupid. I don't like the smell of diesel fuel, should trucks be banned? Should restaurants that serve food that i think smells bad not be allowed to cook that food anymore? I mean come on.. garbage stinks, maybe people should be required to keep it in their houses until the collection service comes instead of making other people smell it. Farting in public should be a felony too for that matter.
Ah, but are big macs addictive? And that's something of an honest question, I think there's some thought now that at some level high fat high sugar foods are at least mildly addictive in some people. But without solid evidence it's impossible to start a discussion about legislating the fat/sugar content in foods.

But I agree with the last paragraph, decisions like this should be made in the best interest of public health and healthcare costs alone.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

I disagree on the direction for weed actually. I think it's the step in the right way. Smoking vs. weed have always been an argument. Part of me strongly feels that the leaders of this country would never legalize weed while smoking is legal. They would see no reason to. If all smoking was banned however, weed would be an easy tax replacement without any health problems.

This is going to sound crazy, but it worked.

I used to sit in the bar (I smoked way, way more when I was drinking) with an unlit cigarette. It was something about the fixation for me. If I had the cigarette in my hand, even if I took fake drags off it from time to time, it seemed to make a huge difference. I would still end up breaking down and lighting it up once in a while, but I was able to go from like a pack a night to maybe four or five. From there, I was able to slowly cut it down to zero.

I still crave them too- even though I quit four years ago now I still occasionally want one desperately when I've been drinking. Sometimes I break down and smoke one, maybe every couple of months. I can live with smoking a handful a year, especially considering I don't eat Big Macs (lol).

They've also banned smoking here in DC, and that really, really helped. There have been plenty of times where I would have slipped if everyone around me was smoking, but I just can't be arsed to give up my stool at the bar to walk all the way outside in the heat/cold/rain/crowd to smoke.

Fair warning though: upon ban, you will discover that all of your favorite bars smell like absolute shit without the cigarette smoke to mask it. It's terrifying. The first thing you notice is all the farts. My fucking god.

Well I got a new car last week that I'm not smoking in, so that's helping me a lot as that was one of the worst times for me... driving to and from work... If I could get rid of the morning cig and the after food cigs, I think I could kick it np. I know what you mean about the fixation thing, I guess that's why those little platic thingys work sometimes.

This is a move to get people to quit, so he can pass his healthcare plan. smoking makes a private plan go up like nuts. More that quit the better no!?

I honestly took the approach of every day that I smoked one fewer cigarette, I was doing something positive for myself. I'm not a doctor, but I figured the problem was the sheer volume of smoke. If I could cut it down, it had to be good, right? Not to mention all the money I saved.

    That's right, Obama banned it.

Congress had nothing to do with it.

I hear those fake cigs work great (<-never smoked so don't have personal experience). My fiance's co-worker uses it and loves it. Think it's like virtue said, sometimes it's just about the act of smoking rather than the actual smoking.

This just in: Voters never happy!

Since smoking has already been all but banned in NY, this really doesn't affect me at all. If people have been searching for a motivation to quit, use this to fuel the spite to keep the man from getting your tobacco tax money.
