    Default BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger

If you'd like to fight other BG members, please post your PSN/360 name. I'll organize a tournament for the console with the most members. However, I might change my mind if there is a strong interest for the lesser console.

It's good, but I need a LOT of practice with this one. It feels simplified by a lot compared to GGX but the combos feel meatier and more varied overall.

Trying to get good with Tager but he's not beginner-friendly at all haha.

Grabbed it about an hour ago, just hunkering down now. I played with my roommate for a few, the variety of characters is awesome.

My initial plan was to go with Noel but after trying out most of the cast I was really enjoying Rachel and Arakune, but really all the characters feel interesting, and have wildly different mechanics, even in comparison to Guilty Gear.

If you plan on picking it up make sure to pick it up relatively soon, the Limited Edition they have for the first run is excellent

A friend wants me to get this one, she also mentioned the SE + some other shit from GS. From what I've seen, that character w/ the marionette seems interesting to use.

I preordered it off Gamestop, the bonus artbook is nothing major, just gives from nice concept art and characters sketches, but it's nothing to sweat over.

I'm giving story mode a spin and I'm really impressed by it, seeing this much work put into a console release is incredible, puts even the Tekken series to shame.

    The top chars are
    V-13
    Arakune
    Rachel

the majority of the scrubs will prob go v-13 from what they might have seen from previous videos, but she is hard to use well since she has such shit HP. Good V-13's will make you want to quit the game as well. From SBO quals those are the 3 chars that qualified the most. I think the most user friendly char is probably Jin, who is also pretty good

I picked it up today. It's weird, I've never really been good at fighting games, and I've never been able to really play well, but I keep buying them. I'm having fun with this one though.

I'm probably going to eventually watch the DVD that came with the LE, I might actually learn something that will help me!

Is the Story mode an actual 'story', or just another case of wall-of-text (SC4) or "Cutscene at start, cutscene at very end" like Tekken series?
(or a mish-mash of random cutscenes thrown in for no reason like Dead or Alive)

Almost too much Story. There's a ton of cutscenes a-la GGX, the fights are single-round and there seems to be varying 'paths' per character, not unlike Soul Calibur's story mode. It's a very very slow way to play the game.

I like almost any fighting game that's not Mortal Kombat pretty much, sue me.

Been getting more of a feel for it now, probably gonna kick back and watch some of the bonus disc after I finish arcade mode with Noel (beating arcade mode unlocks your character's Astral Finisher, think Instant Kills from GG for the unaware).

Noel is definitely going to be the noob character of choice I think, she can do 25-30% combos easily with just her most basic drive combos, though it can be a little tricky to land the initial hit.

And yes, story mode is an overload, but it's a decent change of pace. All the voice acting is pretty well done, and the translation is solid for the most part.

One thing that's a little strange, yet also a nice touch for beginners, is that you can pull off special moves solely by flicking the right stick. It's usually the harder to input moves for the characters (i.e., flick up on hte right stick for an instant spinning piledriver). I'm hoping it's a feature that's disabled on ranked matches, because it's really cheap.

    i was just going to use the stick when i got it. so no right analog for me;

but thats cool to hear the combos arent frame dependent like SFIV which is what welt said in the other thread. i guess i better start getting ready to mash when i get this

so welt is playing jin huh?! i better look up his move lists and counters so i dont get my ass kicked by him too much !

Imagine Ryu except his fireballs freeze you in a block of ice, is the best way to describe Jin really, though it's not overly accurate.

Alot like Guilty Gear the game penalizes you for overly defensive behavior. I could list all the ways but if you've played GG before you have an idea how it will probably work. The one big difference (imo) is that whereas in GG using the "super" guard would reduce your all purpose meter, here "Barrier" has it's own independent meter, so you can do Perfect Guards without dragging down your Heat meter for cancels or Supers. The old Burst ability from GG operates differently as well, but most of the basic defensive mechanics are still present from the GG series.

Oh and true to form from Ark Systems, the soundtrack kicks ass.

It's not just "RS", you can assign the special moves to any button on the controller.

It's a debate in my fighting community about whether to allow or disallow it, throw, taunt, and 3 punch/kick buttons are allowed in SF4 so it's hard to justify removing them in BB. It's just part of the game and better to accept that.

Very few characters I've seen so far even rely on their special moves to get the 30%+ damage combos anyway. I have yet to find a C.Viper in this game. Most of the damage I do comes from D attack chains.

Can confirm that yes, that feature is disabled in Ranked matches, which is something I was really worried about. Only did 5 ranked matches (wanted to knock out the trophy for 3 consecutive ranked wins) but Jin is the character of choice atm it looks like, out of the 5 matches 4 were against Jin.

One thing that irks me a tiny bit though is that while you can download replays from anyone who wants to post them (and you can record pretty much any match you have online), you apparently can't download the replays from people playing a different version (i.e. the non-US release).

Anyway you slice it though, I'm enjoying the hell out of this game. It's pained me that for the last few months the only way to get a Arc Systems fix was on PSP.

So I play through the 'short' Jin Story and get 51% completion. Then I play through the 'long' Jin Story and get 71% completion...oh boy I have to kill the enemies in a certain way...thanks Soul Calibur, thanks.

As a GG fan this game does not disappoint.

Noel FTW. Been sitting in training mode trying to master 6C > B + C > dash loops into her B&B.

My XBL ID is Zerlic if anyone on 360 wants to play some games this week.

Found something to bitch about finally, and apparently this is a problem that is affecting more then a few people. Can't speak for the 360 version, but the bonus disc included with the PS3 version can't be read by my PS3, though apparently Aksys games will send you a free replacement if you email them about it, but I'll have to wait and see til they reply about it.

This doesn't affect everyone, and might actually be PS3 dependent (i.e. individual console basis).
