pretty sure they said this was for ps3 but I can't find where I read that so I could just be imagining things.

I'm expecting it to be ps3 or psp only to start, i have a hard time believing they'd do 360/ps3 simultaneous but who knows.

This would be Atlus' first game for PS3 or 360 in Japan, correct?

I'm leaning towards thinking it's a SMT Nocturne style game, it's one of their flagship series so it would make sense that they'd release it on both, and before any of their other games.

They tend to space SMT game out a little bit, and since they just released Devil Survivor for DS and the Devil Summoner Sequel for PS2, and they'll soon release the Persona 1 PSP remake, so that makes those platforms seem less likely. I suppose it could just as easily be a PSP game... but it seems unlikely, that they wouldn't spend money on leaking teasers unless they're planning on making it a big deal. At least that's the impression I get, anyway...

As for Persona vs. SMT, I was under the impression that stuff like Devil Survivor/Persona/Devil Summoner only got the "Shin Megami Tensei:" prefix added in the Western releases to make the series seem more cohesive to American consumers, or is this not the case? The planet graphic on the above image, combined with the big red Shin Megami Tensei characters (which, btw, are written in the same exact style as the ones on the Nocturne box), make me think this is almost certainly going to be a pure SMT game.


And yes, I realize how fatlus-nerdy that whole thing just sounded >_>

They're all MegaTen games, but Persona isn't SMT. This is either some sort of side title in the SMT series or it's the new one.

well what I meant was that yes, they're all MegaTen games, but in Japan the game titles don't have "Shin Megami Tensei" at the beginning if they're not DDS1/2/Nocture, so seeing that written in Japanese is more of a clue that it's a SMT game than some other game in the MegaTen universe.

But yea, I agree that it's more than likely a nocturne/DDS-style game. I see virtually 0 chance it could be a persona game.

It doesn't need to be a Persona style game imo. We got FES and 4 last year and a Persona remake on the way, and they are *very* time-consuming RPGs, while it's been quite a few years since the last SMT game (5? more?) As much as I like the Persona series (4 was my GotY last year, tied with TWEWY), they can give that series a break for now.

From what I remember, they mentioned looking for "HD" developers in an interview a year or two ago, which would have meant both PS3 and 360. I'm sure they would want it on both instead of just one to help offset costs after seeing other games in the genre's HD performances. However, the DS version of Devil Survivor sold quite well iirc, and the DS is by far Japan's hottest system seller, with plenty of RPG style games that have done well. Devil Survivor and the other RPG sucess stories could have prompted them to continue in that market. PSP has also been doing well on the hardware side, and while it still doesn't sell as much software as most of the other systems, Altus fans are pretty loyal, and the Persona remake may be paving the way for a new SMT.

I am actually not so sure about the PSP, after all the Go stuff being announced (and no UMD for it), but I don't think they are going to cancel the normal PSP versions anytime soon, and Altus games tend to release fairly soon after they are announced, so that may not matter.
