Definetly do 86-100 on Liks. Having an Ebisu so early on will completly change your skill up path from what most people would do with a Lu's. You'll make the most money while skilling up if you go that way.

I have to say it looks liek I used up all my ffxi luck on ebisu, 0/10 on rain hat last night ;_;

Bitch just won't drop, this is going on the 6th month of camping, but we all just gotta keep working at it! Hope to have my rain hat right around when I get my apron...

On the other hand, the wise cap model looks pretty good too, and my luck with this hat is terrible. aghhhh

I think you'll find it's the BLM AF2 hat that's best for fishing.

I disagree, the wise cap model is far superior, especially if combined with smithing gloves

Problem is there are only 3 hats in the game with this model, the wise cape, rdm jse, the ZNM drop, and a R/E hat equippable by all jobs at 75, but its dropped from a high rank assault ??? hat...

So it looks like only way I can get this model is to level rdm to 75 or bust my ass on the assault run and beg for the ??? hat.

My personal mindset was the first 150 fish were just something that had to be done. Once I passed the 150 mark I could start hoping for the item.

Bought 33 since last I posted (at a really great price, though), as well as fished up 25 during full moon last night. Turned 'em all in, but no luck!

Oh dear, oh dear...0/654. Have now officially turned in over 1,000 ebisu fish.

Fun fact: At the current AH price of 20k per gugru, and 15k per lik, I have turned in 18,660,000g worth of fish. Though, to be fair, I did get 902,880g back from Zaldon ;x

Edit: Starting to consider taking a break from the quest. I feel I am starting to become impatient, so it might be time to reassess the situation.

Just got my saber shoot today 1/82! Goes nicely with the 1/1 silk my lik gave including my first pelican ring. Now to haul buttaru and get 10 more levels and 45k GP!

Got my Rain hat on my main character from 2008 Mog Bonanza and haven't looked back ^_____________^ I actually don't prefer to use it as my fishing hat since my friend got my a Yagudo headpiece for my birthday.
