    Extensive Paralyze I Testing

    Greetings BlueGartr. I'm new to these forums, but have posted much testing on the Allakhazam forums. A lot of highly useful information can be obtained from BG which I have used in the past and continue to use, so I thought I'd post results of my tests here this time.

    An earlier test conducted by Belkin was done which suggested Paralyze I CAP=20% and Paralyze II CAP=40%, though no further testing was done to correlate MND to potency or to confirm the cap, let alone the "base case" (when dMND=0). The questions I hope to answer in this testing is as follows:
    1 - What is the "base case" when dMND = 0? Is there a Level Correction?
    2 - How much does 1 MND enhance the proc rate, if at all?
    3 - How much does adding extra MAcc (in the form of Enfeebling Magic Skill) affect the duration and/or potency of Paralyze?

    Testing was done on Robber Crabs using Banish II, D=86, M=1. Therefore, if DMG=86 -> dMND=0. When this value was matched, I paralyzed the crab and noted the number of paralyze procs / number of hits. I then incremented MND by 8 twice and repeated the test. I also did another test with +15 Enfeebling Magic Skill in order to see how skill/MAcc affects potency/duration, as well as another test with dMND=10 to see if the bonuses were linear or exponential.
    The crab was paralyzed for a total of around 1000 hits on each test. Small differences in the total number of hits for the same time on a test is attributed to the crab using a WS. Paralyzes which proced before the "is paralyzed" message and ones which were after the "is no longer paralyzed." message were not included, as including them would add bias to the overall results.

    You'll see 4 columns of data:
    -the timestamped time from Timestamp plugin (mm:ss)
    -Duration (m s = total s)
    -Procs/Total number of hits
    -Full hit, half resist (those without data here are unknown)

    Resistances were based off simple criteria over the course of my test. I noted that the max duration was in the region of 120 seconds, unresisted. I also noted that 20 seconds was the lowest recorded time for a long time, until the odd 10 second value turned up. I theorise that unresisted Paralyzes will do a number between 20-120 and 1/2 resist between 10-60. Knowing this, any time between 10 and 20 are classified as half resist, and any above 60 are full hit, with 20-60 being unknown and potentially either. It's worth knowing that regardless of resistance or not, the potency remains the same.

    This testing was done over the course of 9 days, and the comments below are often what I thought at the time. If you would rather not read through my rambling, skip to the "Conclusions and Observations" section.

    As we can see, MND clearly does affect the potency of paralyze. The dMND0-8 comparison shows a ~3% increase by adding 8 MND. The comparison with dMND8-10 appears to be too small to be noticed with 1100+ trials, indicating the bonus per MND is less than a percent. The bonus on MND seems to rise steadily to 20% at dMND=16. This suggests that 1MND is equivalent to around 0.375% proc rate ( 3/8 ).

    The duration appears to remain constant at ~65 seconds throughout the MND tests, fluctuating slightly. On the +Skill test, the duration has risen slightly, probably due to less resists.

    The base case appears to be around 13.75%, however there is also reason to believe that Magical Accuracy may have a Level Correction imposed similar to Melee Accuracy, so the dMND=0 test was repeated on the stronger Steelshells. If there is some form of level correction, there should be a proc rate less than 13.75%.

    Amazingly, the proc rate has not suffered at the hands of a Tough monster. In fact, it's -higher- than when dMND=0 for an Easy Prey monster. But wait, we have seen a value of ~16% somewhere before.... remembed the dMND=10 tests? That had the same potency. That test was done with a MND rating of 81, which is identical to this test. What this suggests is that dMND is NOT a modifier for Paralyze, rather the potency is based off your MND and yours alone, not the monsters MND. Alternatively, MND AND dMND could play a role, similar to how STR is calculated twice for Weapon Skill damage (presuming STR is a modifier of course).

    This is pretty controversial, so I went back to basics and targetted Lv0/Lv1 monsters (Tiny Mandragoa, Bumblebee, Savanna Rarab). These monsters should have around 3~8 MND, giving me a dMND value of well over 50. I did a test with the same gear as the Robber Crab dMND=0 test (71MND). If my theory is correct, I should see a value of ~13% proc rate if MND is the only factor involved. If MND isn't the only factor, and it's rather a combination of dMND and MND, I should see capped results. The data will have timestamped and duration columns omitted as they are not the focus of this test. The results are below:

    === Note! All the monsters have been grouped into blocks of testing, allowing me to get a very large sample in a very short space of time. ===

    MND=71
    Paralyze proc = 233
    Total number of hits = 1008
    proc_ratio = 23.115%
    Bee |30/108, 20/109, 14/64, 14/72
    Rarab|27/149, 5/23, 36/115, 14/68
    Mandy|20/95, 19/75, 10/66, 24/64

    The proc rate here definitely suggests 20% is not the cap for Paralyze I, it's actually higher, around 23%. It also suggests that MND isn't the only part of the equation, and that dMND and MND work together in order to form the potency. Knowing all this, you can estimate your paralyze potency using the following (rough) equation:

    Potency = (2*(MND+dMND))/10 %

    e.g. You have 70 MND, the monster has 65MND:

    Potency = (2*(70+5))/10 % = 15%

    If the monster were to have say 90MND...

    Potency = (2*(70-20))/10 % = 10%

    As for the actual calculated equation, it came out at about y=3.27x+26 where y=MND and x=proc rate. Shown on a graph:

    (I can't post links)

    img.photobucket.com/albums/v156/kegsay/para1graph.jpg

    Assuming the hardcap is 23% on paralyze I, then you'll cap out on potency when MND+dMND = 102.

    Conclusions and Observations

    - Proc rate is based off MND and dMND. It can be estimated at (2*(MND+dMND))/10 %. The 2x multiplier may be affected by Level, i.e. at Lv30 the multiplier may be more along the lines of *4 rather than *2, more testing will be needed.
    - MND+1 appears to add ~0.375% to the proc rate of paralyze at Lv75. This seems to be linear.
    - Adding skill does affect duration in the form of less resists. No resistance indicates a random number between 20-120, whereas a half resists is between 10-60. There is no indication to suggest there is 1/4 or 1/8 hit.
    - There is no level correction for paralyze.

    Further testing will be needed on Paralyze II to obtain how these values change. I can't do that myself as I don't have RDM75. Also, testing will be needed on other forms of Paralyze, to see just why things like Dread Shreik are so potent (perhaps the multiplier is larger for them?). Is the proc rate static for those moves? etc

    The next testing I'll be doing will be looking into Bind durations.

    Interesting test results~ The idea of MND and dMND both being part of the equation are weird to me though... hope some more testing gets done /w this~

    Well, there's one problem with it, which is that you got resists on your T Steelshell. He could have been selectively resisting the low potency Paralyzes. You should repeat your Tough test with more skill so you don't get resists and see if your average changes.

    There is something I find strange. You are only refering to half resist and "full hit" (which I assume means no resist), but not to "total resist". I assume you didn't get resisted ("resist" message)? If so your magic accuracy is capped (or close) and it naturally has no effect on duration.

    edit : nvm, just saw the 'resist" message in the log.

    Thanks for doing this! I tried a similar method myself (but it wasn't as well controlled) a while ago for the sake of my own curiosity, but didn't have the patience to carry it through...

    http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_5Zz7mYveFK.../crabs3a4a.jpg

    This was as RDM (292 enfeebling skill, 60 base MND, no additional MND gear) on a Robber crab. I didn't check mob's MND or level because I suck and it was only a rough test

    On para1, it looks like I got similar proc rates (14.48%) and average duration (67.4s) as your dMND=0 condition, despite having a much higher enfeebling skill.

    For para2 (merit level 2), the proc rate was higher (20.58%) even though overall duration was shorter, which would suggest that it has a higher minimum proc rate but also that duration isn't too different from paralyze 1.

    I did another short test on level 0 mobs (RDM/BLM, 62 base MND);

    http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_5Zz7mYveFK...atests1a2a.jpg
    Like you, I got a proc rate of roughly 23%
    However, para2 was around 32.76%

    A second test, in full MND gear (62+74) I didn't expect to see much difference, as I thought I would already be at the dMND cap;

    http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_5Zz7mYveFK...atests1b2b.jpg
    Para1 around 23% again
    Para 2 39.46%

    However, the differences between para 1 and 2 could just be due to difference in total duration, because I didn't control for attack rounds/duration, and did number of casts instead (which was pretty dumb in hindsight).

    Assuming the hardcap is 23% on paralyze I, then you'll cap out on potency when MND+dMND = 102.
    Assuming mobs don't have MND values of like 120+, then this number is ridiculously easy to hit. As an Elvaan RDM/WHM (no merits), I had 75 base. With a good amount of HQ gear, I had something around +60 MND. Talk about overkill...

    This is an awesome start, just need some Para2 info and some DS Banishes to find out some MNDs!

    fantastic info. ty for your time and effort.

    as for why dread shriek is so potent, i'd love to see it. on wyverns in AR, it didn't seem that strong, but i know seiryu's is very potent.

    much harder to find, but i would love to see, would be the power of fulmination. in my experience, that is the most powerful/potent paralyze i have ever seen.

    So, if a DRK throws Absorb-MND for you, the paralysis should last longer?

    MND has no effect on duration, but it would allow you to cap potency with less MND gear.

    If you have the chance, could you test if Ice Spikes, Mind Blast, Sub-Zero Smash and Jubaku have static paralyze potencies?

    I'm quite sure that all of them do, but you never know.

    "could you test if Ice Spikes, Mind Blast, Sub-Zero Smash and Jubaku have static paralyze potencies"

    I also highly suspect they are static potencies, and was planning on testing just that after Bind :3 however I will only be confirming or denying whether they are static, and what % if they are.

    Bind testing is around 30% done so far, and will cover a range of information from the probability of breaking bind, to different Bind durations (Ice Break, Blastbomb, etc)
