Tera is a really fun game. But like any market, people have choices. I have high hopes it will be successful here in the West. Also very interested to see how it does in Japan.

New computer was just finished (minus a few more SSDs) last night in prep for Tera <3 <3 <3
37 servers seems way too ambitious for just the Korean sector of a new game. I mean, FFXI had like, 30 servers at its height? And that game is all regions.
I feel like TERA will do much better in the US. I just can't trust Korean taste sometimes with how much they enjoy Aion, lol...
Trying to finish my PC in time for OBT;;
starcraft 1/2 and warcraft 3 are huge, especially professional "e-sports"Originally Posted by Aro
Leveled two characters to 50 and never had Koreans start a PK with me. Would pass them by all day every day in open PK zones with no issues. Most likely because there's no reward for open world PK right now as Tera is very focused on it's bgs. It seems people would rather just level and go about their business rather than start drama for no real reward. For Aion players that really enjoyed the game for it's pvp content they'll probably be somewhat disappointed with Tera's lack of open world pvp content, especially with lords being able to turn the feature off altogether. This might be a good thing considering the amount of qq in that game over the pvp is terrible.
Bullshit, no one plays SC2 or WC3 here. SC1 is still king. MMOs are sort of fading out, but WoW has picked up a lot here since Cata's release. Aion might still be the most popular MMO here, but it's not what it used to be. Most people just hop on the flavor of the month though, so Maestia is booming here right now. After SC1, the most popular overall games are probably Tekken Tag (been making a huge revival since people are sick of T6, and looking forward to TTT2) and whatever the latest Winning Eleven/PES game is. I literally have not met a man under the age of 30 who doesn't play at least one of those three games.
I don't think anyone plays SC2 or warcraft 3.
I think these are the top 10 online games in korea at the moment.
1) FIFA online (Sports)
2) Aion (RPG)
3) Sudden Attack (FPS)
4) Lineage 1 (RPG)
5) Dungeon and Fighter (Action)
6) Maple Story (RPG)
7) Tera (RPG)
8 ) WoW (RPG)
9) Cart Rider (Racing)
10) Free style football (Sports)
Not gonna lie, that Cart Rider game at #9 is pretty awesome. My friends and I love to get drunk, then go to an internet cafe to bet on Cart Rider.
Just cuz I see people asking. Aion is Korea's biggest MMO right now with 14.xx% of PC banks and 15 servers. TERA once peaked right above the 14.xx% of Aion. The main problem here was TERA was more expensive to develop than any game listed above so their expectations were higher(too high).
I'm not a TERA fanboy and have been watching this game from afar, but I really like the process they are using to roll out the game. Given the fact that most MMOs get only one shot to capture their audience, it really makes sense to do what they are doing...
- localized release in a foreign language to test infrastructure and create a barrier of entry for the rest of the world
- gather feedback from players before global launch to determine what works and what doesn't
- make changes and deploy content/fixes to make for an overall smoother and more enjoyable game
I think the fact that FFXI went through most of its troubles in Japan was a big reason why we all enjoyed the game. With the heightened level of pressure put on developers as the new era of MMO players have increased demands it definitely seems as if this is a logical strategy to enter a new market, especially given that the TERA team doesn't have big money like a SE/EA/Blizzard behind them.
Which is weird because I think TERA is the most expensive game in the world. :3
I'm glad to see that other people (reguardless of their previous MMO experiences etc) are keeping an eye on Tera. I want it to do well over here in the West and if word of mouth, albiet cautions word of mouth at times, gets players to notice it, more the merrier. If OBT goes well, everyone who is remotly interested in Tera will get the chance to make their own decisions. I can remember being unsure about FFXI waaaay back in the day, and getting into beta really helped seal the deal on something I was going to invest time and money in
Now in English! Not a bad job, I am quite pleased. (narriation is still iffy imo, but in game dialogue is what interests me)
EME will be discussing the Political System at E3. Eager to see how/if it will vary from PvP to PvE servers.
I've been promoting Tera to friends for quite some time now (long before I tried K-Tera) but I'm going to shout it from the freaking rooftops when beta draws closer. I was really happy with the game and I still feel it has the potential to do very well in the NA/EU markets.
EME dubbing trailers that aired a year ago. GOOD OLE' EE EM EE!
