It seems normal to me. Because the required strength by each part of muscle will varies if you change the distance between two feet. But I don't like to keep my feet too further away from each other, I'm preferring about the shoulder wide distance.

    For the runners here:
I just found out about a 10k mud run happening here in Utah this month, The Dirty Dash. This is its first year, it was inspired by the Camp Pendleton mud runs. So I have a couple questions. If anyone has done a mud run, my biggest concern is shoes. Should I wear my normal running shoes? I know they'll probably get trashed, but it's probably about time to replace them anyway. But what about the water (besides all the mud, you jump into a reservoir at one point during the run). I've never run in soggy shoes, but I have hiked in them. Any suggestions to avoid blisters, or to make it somewhat comfortable?
Also, I'm quite late to the game training-wise. I used to run a few times a week (usually about 6 miles, 3-4 times a week) but I took a few months off. I just started back up this last weekend and I'm currently running about 2 miles. I realize I may not be up to a full 10k in time and may be walking some of it, but if anyone has any training suggestions to get as close to a 10k as possible (or the full 10k) in such a short amount of time I'd love to hear them.

Idk, you might be able to get up to 6.2 miles if you are running 2 right now, but it wont be at any kind of respectable pace. Running in mud probably wont make things easier either, but I bet you could run a slow pace the whole way if you aren't a pussy about training. That idea sounds awesome though...I would totally do that if one were around here. Hell I would be happy for a trail run, all these 5ks I've done lately are lazy as fuck setups that amount to a couple stretches of a sidewalk/road. Talk about boring, cross country is supposed to be in the mother fucking woods.

I have to believe any shoes you run in will essentially be ruined. Idk, I never had problems with blisters even running 6 miles in the rain, so not sure how bad it will be (assuming you don't get blisters when you normally use those shoes). Would just make sure they are light and don't have the ability to soak up (too much anyways) water.

I'll try not to be a pussy about training lol. My biggest problem (at least when running solo, I need to get a good running buddy) is going more than a couple times a week. I'm planning on working out 6 days a week though, with a rest day, until the run. I almost have my boss convinced to sign up, so I might be able to run with him. I'm not worried about a respectable time for this one. I just want to finish. Then afterwards I can worry about bettering my pace.

My shoes haven't given me any issues with blisters. I think I might just hope for the best and use them, letting this be their last run. Then it's time for a new pair.

Hi everyone, I've been following this thread for a long while now and decided this is as good a time as any to register and begin asking questions I searched the forums and glanced through the older pages of this thread however didn't turn up any concrete info on the question I'm about to ask - I've read quite a bit up about CLA and its effects and side-effects (in most cases, there-lack-of) and it seems that there are more pro's than cons really to taking this supplement. I guess what I'm trying to ask is what have been your experiences with it, which brands would you recommend and what would be the best way to maximize on its effects. A lot of my searching on google - although bringing in many pages with lots of information about it, seems to always sway in the favour of CLA and then ends up trying to sell me some which makes me wonder if it's a biased review. Sorry if I missed a thread / posts about this very question.

Oh and nice to meet you all!

    Hi and welcome B34R~

When I was starting to lose weight, I got into that whole CLA thing. I don't really know how much it actually did to help speed up the process of losing weight, because I was eating properly (and at a deficit) as well as exercising. I wouldn't contribute much, if anything, of my weight loss and muscle mass to taking CLA. If anything, it may have helped me .1%, but I don't know. Perhaps it's because I only take 1 pill instead of 3 pills every meal... but.... hahah. Oh well.

I stopped taking it for awhile, because I thought I didn't need it. During that time, my weight maintained the same (I was already around my goal weight and whatever). HOWEVER, it seemed like my body was accustomed to taking CLA and I wouldn't get my period (because I'm a girl...) unless I had that fatty pill. So now I'm back on it, only because I'm afraid I might lose my period again. I'm going to wean off it again soon and see if my period stays or not.

Otherwise, I usually just buy whatever CLA I can find at stores. Right now I use Trader Joe's brand. I've bought others before though.

Thanks for the warm welcome and tip! Being a guy I should only hope I don't experience quite what you did lol... In response to your fat loss experiences with CLA, perhaps you saw a minor effect because you didn't have that much bodyfat to lose? Either way I'll wait and see if someone else can offer their thoughts on my question

I did have a decent amount of body fat to lose (and still do, to an extent). I was about 30 lbs overweight and lost it, plus a little more. But guess you should see..try losing without using it first and then try it? Maybe?

    dear jack3d,
i had fun with you. you made me a lvl 5 super saiyajin and allowed me to do more supersets than no-xplode/white flood ever could while letting me feel unsatisfied and aching all over while driving home. you were good to me the last month and a half.

but alas... its time to cut. 2500 cals a day. more cardio, and less weight more reps, and none of you i will miss you, honeybuns.

    love,
    supermanrich

now that my tolerance for this is at its peak. i have to go at least 4 weeks without using it again, but i plan on cutting for longer periods anyway. i ordered some milk thistle to help recover my liver for using that and NO for about 2-3 months (i heard i dont even need it, but im just playing it safe). but am i safe to start taking fat burners right away? i gotta be honest. i never took one yet, lol. i know which ones to take, and what i have my eyes on, but should i wait for the tolerance of of the jack to settle down before i take any kind of enhancing supplement again?

Ok. I got a problem now. StrongLifts 5x5, though a good program, is losing its interest for me. I'm sort of bored with it. Can someone suggest something else now? >_> Should I make my own? My new goal is to lift/build strength for the purpose of rock climbing. ONE REQUIREMENT: MUST INCLUDE SQUATS/DEADLIFTS AT LEAST ONCE

I was also looking into doing the powerlifting/olympic lifting routine by Pendlay, but I was thinking that could be dangerous if I don't actually have a trainer (who knows anything about olympic lifting) there observing me

    Thanks~

If you're really interested in getting stronger for climbing, the only exercises that will really make any differences are back and core. Even then there are rapid diminishing returns. I'll expand on this if you'd like.

Yea stronglifts 5x5 says you should switch to a different routine after a certain point, and you are at like 1.3 times your bw which is where you should naturally switch to a diff program anyways. Rock climbing would need a lot of grip strength too, yea? In addition to the core/back like above said. A lot of pulling motions really.

Sounds like Wei finally found a practical use for strength :D

@Daemien - tell me more please! I also have read to really counter balance the pulling motions with pushing (overhead/barbell press/push ups/etc) and some lower body (SQUATS!)... I'd like to know more though.

@Zoo - Yeah. But the thing is, my overhead press sucks (stalled at 55lbs basically, could only ever reach 5,5,5,5,4) and my decline bench press kind of suck too (@85lbs)... so I don't know if I actually made a lot of progress on the stronglifts. I was already squatting 125-130lbs before, so I basically only added 10-15 lbs from that. However, before I wasn't doing ATG, so I guess now my form is better. But in the end, I'm just bored with SL and need something different.

Rock climbing is a lot of grip strength...and Ev and I have been getting tons of blisters

Yes, I have found a practical use for my strength now! Wooo. Now I just got to find a practical use for squatting/deadlifts and just do that. I helped Evan push a car that was out of batteries up our driveway--so I was pretty proud that I was able to help push!

edit: Ev and I just joined a climbing gym. They have a weight lifting area but no squat rack boooo. Only a smith machine. Makes me so sad. I would totally cancel my 24 hour membership if it wasn't for that one thing.

I need a suggestion on wrist workout. This morning I just realized that I relatively don't have any wrist muscle compare to other body parts

@Weiing, how about try to look for pylometric training? and start the training at about 70% of your max lift? However, beaware that these kind of training are just plain killer

I don't like Scooby...because of his video about eggs. Left a bad taste in my mouth.

Also... I didn't think wrists had muscles? But I assume you meant forearms like that video is about.
