I'll probably end up seeing this sometime today or this weekend, but it is getting panned hard. Which is very disappointing.

This wasn't nearly as bad as the reviews make it out to be. There are problems, and I guess it depends on whether or not you can get over them.
Also, not enough green lantern and not enough sinestro.
And too much Hector Hammond. As in, he's there for more than 0 seconds.

I say, too many gratuitous cleavage shots. They really ruined the whole film.

    Spoiler: show

I enjoyed the movie and the only stuff I remember from green lantern is from Justice League or whatever. The movie slowed down a bit but I still enjoyed watching it.

^ This. The relationship between Hal and Sinestro was nearly nonexistent, so it made the lead-up to the "surprise" climax at the end feel lackluster and forced. They focused too much on Hammond and Hal / Carol. Could have used some more action too.

I know nothing of GL, except what my friend(who is a huge fan told me beforehand), so I went in as pretty much a clean slate. I thought parallax looked really dumb. I thought the cgi aliens and constructs looked good. I still think Hal Jordan's suit looked weird on him, as it did Abin Sur.
The guy who plays Hector Hammond is a good actor, but he seemed to be acting in a different movie than the rest. He took it a bit more serious, but hammed it up at the end.
I don't really understand why Hal changes his ways after a talk with Carol. The talk itself never felt powerful enough to change his character.

    secret credit thing
    Spoiler: show

why the hell does Sinestro become a yellow lantern? He is celebrating the defeat of Parallax not 2 minutes before in the movie. He wanted the yellow ring at first because he had the idea that yellow > green. However, Hal shows green can overcome yellow.

also, I wish he spent more time on Oa training. Tomar Re and Kilowog were really interesting. If it showed Hal learning to master his ring more, I think the ending would have been more convincing

Also, how does a missle hit a being that I thought was just pure fear? And how does the sun burn him up?

Despite all my complaints, there were enough enjoyable moments that I wouldn't say it's as bad as a 20% or whatever. It's certainly better than Jonah Hex, Ghost Rider w/e. Maybe on par with third xmen movie?

    ^ Answer to your questions.

    Spoiler: show
In the comic book Parallax is imprisoned inside the Green Lantern Power Core, it's basically the "Yellow Impurity" that existed that didn't allow the Ring to work on anything Yellow in the comic book. Because of this, Parallax had a connection to the Green Lanterns and used that bridge to empower Sinestro and seduce him with the power of Fear, which made him turn on the Green Lanterns and start the Yellow Lantern Corp. Since they didn't go this route, and wanted to make a sequel, they simply just made him "decide" to use the Ring, which ruined a lot of what Green Lantern was imo.

Additionally what you saw in the movie wasn't Parallax, it was him possessing the body of one of the Oa Guardians. So that's why he can be destroyed by traditional means, Parallax himself wasn't killed, just the body he possessed.

Just got back from seeing it. It's not the greatest movie ever, but it's definitely not as bad as the reviews say. As a movie, I was entertained and enjoyed it for the most part, but do agree that there were some definite pacing problems. If you're looking for a summer action movie, it's worth checking out.

    Spoiler: show

I agree that they shouldn't have focused so much on what was going on on Earth with Hal and Hector (I would have been fine if they had cut Hector out completely, tbh) and focused more on the Corps. As a fan of the Green Lantern comics, the amount of attention the Corps got really disappointed me. I will say, they did a good job of focusing on Carol's love for Hal which should work well if they decide to go the whole Star Sapphire route in the third film (having her pilot name being Sapphire worked well).

Biggest problem though, imo, was Sinestro. For as important a character as he is, they did not focus on him nearly enough. It felt like he had 10 minutes (if that) of interaction with Hal and so there was no relationship or chemistry between them. And worst of all, there was no real development for him to go from leader of the Corps to using the yellow ring. Especially with the ending scene, it made it seem like he was just taking the ring out a desire for power which makes no sense considering Hal had just shown them that the power of will could overcome fear.

    Just got back from this.

Spent 16 bucks to see it in 3D. Didn't have a theater around that was playing in 2D, so I'm kind of upset about that. 3D was sub par at best. Stuck out a couple moments in the start of the movie and then it's like it was forgotten about.

Other than that, I almost fell asleep a couple of times with the Earth scenese. Holy hell were they bad. The Oa stuff was pretty great, but not nearly enough of it. The suit (On Ryan Reynolds) looks pretty bad. The alien characters were fine. The lore was butchered to all hell, and the post credit scene made absolutely no sense. I was very disappoint.

Suit since day one has been my number one gripe. It looks like utter rubbish, I don't know what the hell they were thinking.

Gonna see it tomorrow maybe, walking in with a bottle of spirits in case I pass out.

Just got home, I really enjoyed it. It was slow at the beginning but any superhero movie is really. Once he went to Oa the whole movie picked up. Predictable but fun.

If you're going to compare something to a bad comic book movie, compare it to Jonah Hex.

While the story was changed up a bit from the comics, I did enjoy the story they presented and the great effects. Thor, IMO, is still this year's best comic movie thus far. X-men first class wasn't half bad either, though i'm not sure if I liked it better or worse than Green Lantern.

I did enjoy Thor alot too but I dont have to pick every part of the movie apart to enjoy it. It seems like the new generation has to have everything "realistic" thats why I guess X-men sits better with them.

Just got done watching this. While I agree with Moosey, they changed the storyline up but I still liked it very much. Only gripe I had though would be that they did not touch Sinestro/Hal's relationship. But other than that, great movie. I like this one a lot better than Thor... but that's because I like Green Lantern comics more than Thor >.>

Thor falls third on the list of superhero movies I've seen this year, mostly due to how hard it is to care about most of the characters and how long we have to put up with Dawson's Creek-style relationship building before they finally reach the fighting at the climax.

Green Lantern is a mediocre movie but that's good enough since the only better movie to compare it to is First Class, which rides the Charles/Erik relationship to a flawless bromantic finish. At least the action in Green Lantern is really satisfying and much better edited than it was in Thor.

Saw this yesterday. Thor is still my favorite super hero movie of the year so far. But I still enjoyed this. It was a bit slow, but that was to be expected from an origin movie. Could have done with a little more action.
