    Pretty much this.

Right now, Chrome cannot handle a proper adblock or noscript because the functionality does not exist. The best they can do is suppress the ad, but it will still load. However, Google is attempting to amend it.

It wasn't just the fact that OGG was not up to snuff. No one knows how many fights OGG would have to go through if it suddenly had something like Youtube and other sites utilizing HTML5 behind it. Depending on how many patents it crossed, it could have been bloody.

My slow as fucking molasses AT&T DSL has been down all weekend, so I've just been iPhone tethering for all my internet needs (shit situation) - anything faster loading is highly encouraged.

ok...and after trying it, it doesn't really seem any faster...

Isn't google just one giant Advertising firm that just happens to find new revenue streams in products/software/services?

If thats the case I doubt very much you'll see a decent adblocker on chrome even though they can.

as far as HTML5 it buffers great but anyone else getting choppy audio/video?

why not? Perhaps not google ad services, but allowing all the other guys to be snuffed out sounds sensical, if not a little devious. I can imagine a "stick with the only safe advertiser" slogan or some shit.

Ya i noticed this it showed that it loaded all the way but it's actually still buffering, at least for me anyway.

HTML5 just initiates faster than a Flash plugin is mainly the point.

It's done by Adobe now. I doubt it.

Pretty sure the bar just shows up entirely shaded in now (maybe to give you the illusion that it's loaded already?), but it's still loading. If you try to skip to a later time it still has to buffer, at least for me.

I really don't see what you guys are seeing that's so great about it. Don't get me wrong I don't like flash, but it still has this same problem flash has:

    CPU utilization over GPU:

Chrome seems to be using just a bit more but that's probably cause Chrome has a slightly larger video than FF.

idk, maybe it might be that it's experimental and in beta?

You may be right but I think my connection may be fast enough that I don't notice anything when I click far into the video right after loading. There is a longer pause to start playing when you click to different times in general over flash whether it's been loaded for a while or not so I can't really tell if it's fully loaded or not if the bar shows up that way.

My biggest problem with this Chrome is how they handle RSS feeds. I love my row of RSS feeds that I can just scroll across and check them all.

I use youtube to look up bands that I have never heard of, since switching to html5 i have noticed higher sound quality, I'm keeping it for now.

It's not just that the video is larger, it's also much higher bit-rate for video and audio, so you're not really comparing the same thing there, the HTML5 one is a much larger video, fact that it uses less CPU power for same effect should tell you what you need to know.

Also the big benefit in the long-term is that h.264 can be hardware accelerated unlike flash. I use OSX and can offload youtube videos to my video card now instead of my CPU.

I still don't see what's so great about streaming video in the first place. It's nice for clips and little 30-second amusing shit, but I'm not going to sit and watch 30+ minutes in anything but 1080p 5.1 anyway.

These days, it seems like almost everyone is fucking amazed with the decades-old technology of streaming and acts like hard drives are expensive.

    Few thoughts:

    1) Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't HTML5 only good for video streaming? As far as interaction goes (e.g. flash games) it has no support. So it's far too premature to see if it will kill flash or not.

    2) I'm guessing but I'm pretty sure I'm right - the only reason Steve Jobs hates Flash so much is because it lets people have apps that don't need to go through the App store.....it's not really a mentality you'd want to support.

    3) Chrome will never have adblock support. Google's entire business model is based on ads.

Another reason that people hate flash is that Flash = IE on security terms, so many holes in that shit.

Also since Flash had no competitors for a few years they went MEH no biggie.

But now wiht HTML5 and lolsilverlight, adobe has no choice to try to improve or else they are done for
