But in reality they won't do shit, because punishing the user base is not a very intelligent way to start a game up.
You really think SE wouldn't be aggressive about an NDA they laid out in very plain terms that everyone clicked "I agree" to? You're a fucking moron.
edit: That isn't to say they're going to hunt around and peg everyone saying "I got in", but the whole notion of SE not following through on an NDA on the Alpha and Beta versions of their biggest MMO in the last 8 years is inconceivably stupid.
Besides the fact they really don't have much of a legal leg to stand on to request that info, the legal process before ever getting them would be longer than the beta, lol.
Seriously, again, stop the stupid tin-foil hat paranoid conspiracy shit people, posting "I got in" isn't gonna incur the wrath of SE on ya.....
Besides they even said the stuff within the Beta Forum/Testing is to never be posted on outside sources, so saying you got in is the least of their concerns xD
Actually, there's usually very little done to combat breaking the NDA.
I used to get advance copies of 360/PS3 games for a gaming website I wrote for, and as far as that industry went, breaking the NDA usually meant you were just black balled and wouldn't receive games anymore (unless you were a big time site posting massive amounts of info, then you'd probably receive a nice cease-and-desist letter).
For the average gamer, though, the NDA is nothing to worry about. SE isn't going to extreme lengths to punish those who break it by saying "hey we got in", but they might ask that mods take a more stern stance against those breaking the NDA by deleting threads and banning rule breakers.
edit: just saw your edit, and totally agree
"Do some people really believes that they have a chance to get in with 1 application? do you even know how limited is a beta? specially for a game with the FF name, many people will register just for the sake of trying the new FF~
I created 22 Email just for the Beta (Takes a min to create one just bring a paper and write down all emails/shared password for future use) each email is registered with a different connection-ip/PC so there is no way for SE to find out that they belong to one person even if they worked with the CIA, and each one of them are registered with different settings so whatever they are looking for (powerful PC/Weak pc/addicted player or casual player feedback) i will get in
So how many beta applications did you sign for guys? and just because I'm a nice guy I'll be willing sell my extra Beta codes for the high price in eBay when i get them (I only need 1)" - Seph
I wonder if this dude got into Beta
Makes it seem like nobody has ever been a part of an alpha/beta selection, but I Agree with you.
For those that are QQing about it being random - that's the goal. They don't want 1 demographic of players. They don't want only people that played FFXI to the end and never quit. They don't want people with only super computers. They want as wide of an array as people as they can, so ya, they split people off, and started choosing people from as many different categories as they can. They want input from every aspect of their to-be player base.
Inb4 this phase of Alpha is only available to people that at one point had an FFXI account - they have to start somewhere.
Oh ya, I got an email too.
I want to kill myself! I bought an entire new computer for it! Nooooooooo! ;_;
No e-mail for me; I'll say I'm admittedly disappointed, how could you not be? However, I'm more than pleased to see that they're moving along in the process so I have no reason to complain. It's not as though the beta is any sense of a head start. Were it the case, I could see myself complaining.
Normal/mature reaction, unlike people trying to make ?accusations? of a bullshit process 'cause they don't see a pattern to people selected...which is how it should be.
Yes and no. There is no head start in an alpha, but never seeing the beta will definitely put you behind the curve when it comes to leveling, making money, etc come release. I'm sure that almost everyone will have a chance to beta it before it goes live, however. They would be complete idiots if they don't have a 1-week open beta at the very least. It's not as though the beta is any sense of a head start. Were it the case, I could see myself complaining.
I can totally deal with not playing the beta... like someone said it isn't (much) of a head start since your character is gone at the end. Be cool to have a bit of a know on places to go and how to get there, the armory system's inner workings and stuff like that for sure, but any kind of FFXIV Wiki will boost up info pretty quick too.
I think what disappointed me the most is it still seems like info is coming out really slowly, and I'm just dying to know whatever there is to know about it. Maybe that's a lame reason I dunno, but I can still cross my fingers for an invite down the line which might be better for me personally since the game will be less broken at that point. Don't get me wrong, I would test properly and try and break the damn thing, but less broken = good in my eyes.
My husband and I both applied, same mailing address but 2 unique characters. He was playing since NA PC release, I started in late '04. 1 LM-17 violation on each account but no trouble otherwise. His PC has midline specs, as does my laptop. Neither of us got an invite.
I'd say the "dartboard" analogy is probably a good one, and likely exactly what they were trying to do. It's just a numbers game, some people will get it and many won't.
No email for me, but i'm kinda relieved tbh. Between classes, social life, XI and the proximity to XIII's release, I wouldn't know what to do with myself, haha.
Nothing in my inbox but I got some sweet deals from "****Pharrmacy Vallium Perokocet****" and "GOLD BEST CASINO USA PLAYER WELCOME" to keep me occupied until I do get in.
