The OS and Video card I think was responsible for about 4GB combined. SVC Host had 500 MB and FFXI was eating 350+ MB. Various everything else was just eating little pieces here and there. A youtube window here, a Windows Media Player there, etc.

I should also mention I'm kinda running 2560x1600 resolution which really loves to eat the resources. Either way, I'm eagerly awaiting FFXIV and CoH Issue 17 to see how far I can push things.

    wat?

Odds are you had superfetch on, which will just fill RAM with shit it thinks it will use. If you need more ram, superfetch will drop shit out of RAM so you can use it.

Yeah, the vidya cards grabbing RAM equal to its size as long as I don't hit my cap. Which I made sure I had RAM for. Also, when considering my monitor, while it was highly illogical to get anything more than a 1GB video card for my old build, I fell in love with the LG 30" @ 2560x1600. I did my homework and found that pumping that resolution at max settings for newer games was actually stressing 1GB cards (not by much, but by as much as 20%). As such I have the 2GB 285 GTX to compensate for hopefully keeping this as my gaming computer for 3-4 years. I may own "ahead of the times" right now, but I fully expect to see these resolutions becoming more commonplace around the time we're all elitest endgamers in FFXIV.

1GB RAM? Yeah, you're pretty hosed considering the min specs say 1.5-2GB. Considering you'd factor in OS and other things, I'd say 4GB is the "safe" zone for FFXIV and other modern gaming.

Say what? Windows 7 should be eating 1-2 GB on its own.

that GPU is a tad out of date too, maybe someone else can say if its anywhere close to running 14. I would say you need a new GPU too but ill let others tell you if that is true.

mmm, unless ffxiv can run in netbook mode with atari graphics. Yes. I don't even think that PC can run any source-engine game decently tbh lol.

Depends entirely on the amount of ram you have. If you have 2GB. Prefetch idle won't go over 500-600MB usually with fine tuning. (Retarded services off, etc.)

Might want to look into getting a new PC ; ; you have at least 7 months to save money for whatever you need.

How can I tell what it's using now? It seems to be running smoother than XP Media Center, but maybe cuz it's a fresh install. I know I used to lag a ridiculous amount @ Tele's while on XP, and I don't anymore.

looking @ crucials upgrade site... I could go up to 4GB (not necceessarily gettin crucual memory)

I didn't pick this computer... they just came home with it one day, i was like wtf. If I can't play the alpha then o well I guess. I'll just build my own in the mean time. Or get my connects to "acquire" the parts i need.
