    Default COOL SHIT

Since it is unlikely to get a real conversation on a bunch of tabletop topics going, I am just going to post cool shit I find on sites like enworld.org (best RPG site on the internet) and maybe spare a few words on why I find it cool. Feel free to do the same. It can even include card games and other shit that isn't videogames. It can't be magic the gathering either, because we have a perfectly healthy magic the gathering thread.

This is one of the coolest gaming set ups I have ever seen. It probably costs a couple thousand dollars less than anything else like it too. The site gives you directions and require materials to make it. Basically the projector is the most expensive part.

I really need to get myself a projector. Would make playing old videogames a lot better too.

IRON HEROES SECOND EDITION, MOTHERFUCKERS (still d20 based)

    http://okayyourturn.yuku.com/topic/18105

What is awesome is that the developer is sharing a fuck load of information. A total break down of changes to abilities, feats, skills, classes, etc. (Not that you'll get much out of it without having read the original Iron Heroes)

I loved original Iron Heroes even though I only got to play it once. The 2nd edition looks to better in every way and I think I might actually force myself to find a group in order to play it. Still unlikely.

For those who don't know(which is probably everyone) Iron Heroes is one of those d20 variants that spawned out of DnD 3rd Edition. It is based on the idea that there is little magic or magic is incredibly unstable so heroes are physically 10 times as awesome to make up for this. It is NOT gritty like most magicless settings, just awesome. Classes are based on fighting styles, rather than archetypes. Feats can be leveled up, which lets players combine feats and classes to make a more unique type of character. There is a "token" system which you collect points(like TP from FFXI) from means based on the class(take damage, block damage, do damage, move, etc) and spend them on special abilities. Feats can give tokens too. Skills can be used in a way that they grant bonuses to attacks and shit. Nothing else comes to mind off the top of my head - but that should be enough anyway.

    NOSTALGIA COOL SHIT

    http://www.enworld.org/forum/story-h...e-12-25-a.html

I read this "story-hour" (a DnD game converted in to a story) back when 3rd edition was new and I was much younger. I loved it. So I finally found it again and I just have to post it. It is also very, very long. I don't expect anyone to read the whole thing, but its cool shit, so here it is. Awesome dwarf thug archetype. Wulf Ratbane motherfuck!

(EDIT: The thread is dated for 2002, but I am almost certain that it is a repost of a much earlier thread)

I've seen this set up a few times, and while it is really cool, until some good map making software and equipment/monster databases got set up, it would be really limiting for a DM and players. Would be really nice if like Paizo would put out their adventure paths to be compatible with stuff like this when it becomes more widely available.

Paizo's King Maker Adventure Path. A new spin on their classic formula: "Sandbox" modules. Rather than post the whole thing or just the article, I'll just post this rather in-depth thread and quote it. Nice maps and shit in the link, I won't be pasting them here. Also link to free player guide download, but you need an account on their site(you buy it, for free).

    http://www.enworld.org/forum/general...xcrawling.html

Ever since Paizo started doing these Adventure Paths (APs for short) there was a vocal minority among their fanbase who complained that the APs as a whole suffered from two intertwined design issues:

    1. Mega-railroady. The campaign was premised on an unfolding 'plot' whose major plot points was set in stone. The PCs could be as stupid or clever as they like, this metaplot would unfold as determined at square 1.

    2. NPC driven. The action of the plot (1.) unfolds because NPCs set in motion their major plans. PCs (and their players) are delegated to stop these plans.
So as of yesterday, Paizo has now released for the first time an adventure path which tries to re-instate player pro-activity and also tune down some of the assumed meta-plot and rail-roadiness in their flagship product. The AP is called 'Kingmaker', and is touted by Paizo as a hybrid between a campaign-with-plot and a sandbox: players have to scout the wilderlands to the south of civilized lands, tame the wilds, establish a new barony, and fight off any forces that assault their new kingdom. In short, it's the players whose characters set in motion their plan, and the DM is their to throw adversary forces at them to foil these plans. In short, a beautiful return to the Expert set for Basic D&D/BECMI.
The map of the region the PCs will be exploring basically consists of a swath of land between Brevoy and the River Kingdoms; this area's long and rectangular but covers the same square mileage as the state of Maine, pretty much.

Furthermore, while you can certainly see the area on the overland map, we've put a LOT more detail in there for Kingmaker; there's mountain ranges, swamps and all sorts of stuff for the players to explore.

I'm looking forward to the King Maker AP. My group and I are currently running The Second Darkness AP and Savage Tide from Dungeon Magazines. Once we finish with ST we will be playing The Council of Thieves.

Everyone in the group is extremely pleased with the quality of Paizos APs.

Though I do want to try something different. Since we've been playing D&D for YEARS. I want to try to get into some other game systems and see if our group would like them very much.

Maybe some Rifts, Shadow Run, or Vampire (Not the LARP version, the table top version)

A rather crushing criticism of 4e. It is rather old, before Player's Handbook2 and all, but some of the main points still stick. I still like 4e, but can't deny these clear faults.

I love them, but sometimes I think they read better than they play. Too deadly and too much crunch/too combat centric. Of course, matter of taste because those two qualities could be the top of the list of what people want out of an adventure / adventure path. I think it is fair to say Paizo make some of the best adventures, period, AP or no.

Vampire (Not the LARP version, the table top version)
hahaha, yeah, important to make that distinction to those who don't know about the tabletop version.

Awesome post from piratecat, one of the best posters on Enworld... certainly one of the most experienced DMs. It is about convention games, but everything he says is pretty applicable to normal games.

My group is playing Council of Thieves right now, and man, it is rough on the PCs. There is a lot of stuff where if you fail a skill check or don't have the right skills period it will seriously affect your game. Also, the combats can be nasty, lots of poisons and diseases. We are thoroughly enjoying it though, especially the final few books, and we're all looking forward to Kingmaker.

    Shit looks fucking cash.
