BBC sent out HUGE doctor who news in a press release with an embargo that ends after midnight tonight UK time. Speculation is that Matt Smith is leaving the show and we will get a new doctor starting in August of 2014 when the new season starts. JLC will remain on as a companion, but again this is all speculation. There is about 4 hours left until the embargo is lifted so we will have to wait and see.

Well if the rumor is true which it appears it might be, then I can understand why the BBC is coming out with this information now instead of later like they wanted to. Apparently there was an internal email that was only supposed to be sent to the Top Brass at BBC announcing a new doctor and the start of the 8th series at the end of August of 2014, however, the email got cc'd to all BBC staff and so a bunch of eyes that weren't supposed to see the email got it. So if true this is two goof ups in less than one month (DVD's getting shipped out early and then this)

New season would start in August of 2014 and run all the way through with no breaks. They would start filming sometime in February of 2014 knowing their production record as they usually film episodes 5-6 months in advanced depending on cast schedules.

Pretty much. We get the 50th November 23rd then we get the Christmas Special a month later where the 11th will regenerate into the 12th. Then we wait 8 months to see how things go from there.

Well they just finished filming the 50th but yeah it's too much of a gap in between seasons...not as bad a Sherlock but still pretty bad. Hopefully we get a glimpse of the 50th at Comic Con next month.

I personally don't want to know who the Doctor will be before the Regen. If I know before hand, I'll research him up, find out what other shit he's done and judge him based on those and possibly hate him before he even gets a chance. I'll leave it up to see if the new guys fits.
