Things to do/places to eat in Ottawa-Gatineau, Canada?

My girlfriend and I will be taking a trip to Ottawa sometime in July for ~5-7 days. I haven't been to Ottawa since the summer of 1998, so I'm more than willing to redo stuff I've previously done there. I'm looking for good places to eat, things to see, etc... in any of the cities. I've never been over to Gatineau/Hull, so any suggestions there would be great.

    Previously I've:

•Toured Centre Block @ Parliament Hill.
•Watched the changing of the guard (think it was at Parliament Hill?).
    •Gone through the art gallery.
    •Gone through the locks.

Yeah I'd suggest the casino in Hull also.

But more than anything I'd say go the extra mile (several lol) and visit toronto instead, it's alot nicer city.

Chill in Byward market, there's some great pubs. My current favourite is the Brig which is near the American Embassy. Taking a drive through Gatineau's a good plan too.

If you like to drink, I suggest Pub Italia . It has a great set up, great food and the beer menu is quite ridiculous. pubitalia.ca/beer.html

I went to Ottawa when I was 12 with my parents. I don't really remember much except that the war museum was fascinating as was the art gallery. We also did a tour of the Parliament Buildings which was interesting.

Gatineau hills is a pretty nice drive if your going to have a car. (there are also a couple look out points that you can find (one is @ camp fortune) that overlook the hills and the view is definitely worth it ex: http://image02.webshots.com/2/3/87/8...3HOglhV_fs.jpg)

Also Elgin street and the By-ward market are great spots for night life. And on Elgin you have "pure gelato" which is pretty sweet. Just park near the Nature museum and walk down the road at night, lots of people and interesting little spots to eat etc.

The new war museum is pretty impressive if you're into that sort of thing.

Top Carting in Hull is also fun, a little over priced but indoor go karting @ 80+ kph pretty fun.

P.S. Toronto a nicer city? hmm I guess I agree if your into smog/asphault/crime...

    ^This.

I'll be going to Montréal as well, but I go there ~once/year, so don't need any tips there. I really loved Ottawa when I was there last, the cleanest city I've seen in my life (granted DC isn't good for comparison to anything). I will be driving up as it's only about a 9 hour drive. I'm probably really only going to stay in Ottawa 3-4 days, and possibly add a couple days in Québec City.

Edit - Thanks for the recommendations, Ddboner, all of them sound great.

Don't wanna turn this into a war between cities but isn't it common knowledge that, from a tourist's point of view, Toronto is more everything than Ottawa?
Well they don't have a parliament though, where you can see true canadian clowns fake working
