Series producer Ethan Spaulding shared some new details to MTV Splashpage today about the show.
He acknowledged that the new series will play up the anime roots of the series and revealed news they they are updating characters. Tygra, was singled out by Spaulding as having an updated backstory.

"The consensus was that he was the boring guy of the old show. So we wanted to make him more interesting and gave him another dimension. But don't worry — he still has the whip."

They plan to make Lion-O younger and Panthro older, but Spaulding promises that all changes will be organic to the new storyline. It was also revealed that we'll be seeing Snarf, WilyKit and WilyKat. They won't appear right away in the series though.

From what I've read, there will be no speaking part for Snarf this time around, but that design is just atrocious.

Snarf and the twins were fine in small doses.

The new Lion-o look like some emo teenager. Yes yes i understand he sorta was in the original but at least he looked more mature. I'm cringing at what the voice will be like.

I never figured the original Lion-o as a teenager. Maybe because I was just a kid, but I always assumed he was like 18-20ish.

If I remember because of the suspended animation or whatever was used when travelling to third earth, even though he was physically developed, he had the mind of a teenager still, he did leave as teen. Wow I cant believe i remember that. It actually was said in the first episode.

Lion-O was actually the same age as the Kits (if not a little younger) in the first ep; due to a malfunction in the life support system (specifically his cryo chamber), only his body aged, but he woke up at the same time as everyone else.

I always placed him in his early-mid 20's throughout the majority of the series because of his body size, tho he did seem to mature a little too quick... (ok, no more poking at plot holes ;P ), at least no more spandex bodysuits this time XD

Unless you want to go back to the 80's with spandex suits, spiked suspenders, and pseudo-super hero costumes, the new character designs are great. Except for Snyarf, he now looks like a rejected pokemon design that herped before he derped.

Hahahah, I suppose I do need to clarify myself. I guess, to me, Lion-o looks more like 15/16 years old in the new rendition, whereas back in the 80's I tended to think he was more on the 'adult' side of the 'teenage' spectrum (as of course, being 19 still makes one a teenager in the literal sense.)

That was the worst thing i've ever seen in my life, well except for the GI Joe movie.

For fucks sake, Lion-o was not a wise ass jokster. He was the naive Luke Skywalker that had to learn to be a leader. They completely missed the point of his character.
