If this game is really 2 years out every fun thing they just showed in that trailer will already have been ripped off and put into tons of other games that probably have a camera that won't give you a headache.

Devil's Third currently 30% complete... or so.

Famitsu gets in a quick interview with Tomonobu Itagaki at E3.
Tomonobu Itagaki and Valhalla Games introduced us to the concept of the "pre-E3 Tokyo Game Show" tease last week as, just ahead of the start of E3, they shared a teaser promising an update on their debut game Devil's Third at this year's Tokyo Game show.

But Itagaki is in attendance at E3. Famitsu.com managed to score a quick interview with the former Team Ninja master now turned independent.

The Devil's Cry teaser that we were shown last week wasn't the game's full E3 trailer. Visitors to THQ's booth can see the full trailer, which is a longer version of that. It's apparently 20 minutes long, but Itagaki says he's heard it will be posted on the internet soon.

Famitsu got down to business real quick and asked Itagaki for a status update on Devil's Third. The game is currently about 30% complete, Itagaki replied, although he added jokingly that there really isn't much difference between 20% and 30%. The quality still isn't quite there, he admitted. They're at the point where they're upping the quality from here on out.

Itagaki also shared a few intriguing comments about the game's online component. Famitsu noted that Itagaki's past titles have taken some innovative challenges in the online area. Asked if Devil's Third will take similar challenges, Itagaki responded in the affirmative. He wouldn't get into details, though, saying that it's a secret. However, he did hint that whatever he's talking about, it will be something unique to Devil's Third.

The game's online component appears to be a major part of the experience. Online and offline are each the equivalent of a full game, Itagaki said. There are still some areas that are in conceptual phase, though, so there could be some changes in this area.

Closing off the short interview, Itagaki promised to show the true form of Devil's Third at the Tokyo Game Show in September. He promised to not let down our expectations.
    As expected...more info at TGS.

Itagaki Talks Devil's Third Story, Beta Test and Reaction to Dead or Alive 5
Tomonobu Itagaki has shared a few details on Devil's Third in an interview with Impress Watch. Going along with our summary of Famitsu's interview, here's what we learned from the Impress interview. Itagaki also responded to the Dead or Alive 5 announcement, so be sure and read on through the end!

    Beta Test
Itagaki hopes to have a closed beta test for Devil's Third. Although stressing that this is just a forecast, Itagaki said it could take place around Fall of 2012. The closed beta test would be for the hardcore fans, and would be followed by an open beta test for general users.

    E3 Teaser and Delays
Itagaki admitted that he'd promised during E3 an update on Devil's Third at TGS. However, during meetings with THQ earlier this month, they determined that it was too early to show the game. The game is not delayed, though. It's still due out in early 2013.

    Changes
Similar to his Famitsu interview, Itagaki said that the current game is totally different from the trailer that was shown at E3 2010. Regarding the action component, some areas have become faster, and so-forth. The characters have seen considerable changes -- this includes the main characters. You can actually see the new main character designs if you go frame by frame through the E3 "Hard Gay" teaser trailer.

    Multiplayer and Modes
Itagaki has been saying that the game's multiplayer count has been increasing. They're currently at 25 players, he told Impress. This figure is achieved when recreating internet issues like packet loss. He's promising 16 player support, but aiming for 32 players.

Regarding multiplayer modes, he said that they plan on including all the modes one expects from shooters. But just this wouldn't be interesting. They will also have some unique modes. Asked for some hints, he would only say that when making a fighting game, you're limited in what you can do as far as modes are concerned because in the end all you end up doing is fighting. However, with a shooter, you have expansive environments and lots of players playing simultaneously, so you can do more interesting rule designs.

    Story
Itagaki also shared the broad background story with Impress. Much of it was already shared back at E3. As detailed then, the game surrounds the "Kessler Syndrome," the dense distribution of space debris in orbit. Once this point is reached, in some sense the playing field on Earth will be leveled off. Military powers will no longer be able to use their weapons. All of the IT industry will be down. Even commercial flight will be impossible because of disruptions to guidance systems. When all this happens, there will be a shift in the world's power balance. Devils Third begins at the start of the Kessler Syndrome, although Itgaki would not say if in the game world something served to trigger the Kessler Syndrome.

    Itagaki's Daughter
Separate from Devil's Third, Impress mentioned that Tecmo Koei had announced Dead or Alive 5 earlier in the week. Of course, Dead or Alive is Itagaki's baby. Asked for his impression, Itagaki said, "It was announced? I still haven't seen it myself, so I'm not in a position to comment."

Impress pressed further and asked if as the series' father it feels a bit odd to see the series be continued on without him. Itagaki replied that while there are some creators like that, he is different. He views Dead or Alive as like having given a daughter off to be married. It would be bad for a father to always be protective of his daughter. He can only hope that she is given happiness.

Still in development, don't expect a E3 appearance
Devil’s Third, Valhalla Game Studios’ 2010-announced third-person shooter, is still in development, designer Tomonobu Itagaki confirmed in this week’s Famitsu.

“It’s going along really well,” he said. “We’re discussing things with publishers; we’re continuing to expand on and deepen the gameplay. That’s about the level we’re at.”

The now deceased THQ was the game’s initial publisher, but the company later dropped the title as it no longer ‘fit THQ’s profile.’ The rights were returned to Valhalla.

So why has the game been so under the radar?

“That’s because we haven’t released any information,” Itagaki replied. “It’s like we’re continuing to go along under the surface, waiting for the right timing to launch our missiles. Besides, if we revealed where we were hiding under the surface, it wouldn’t be much of a war, would it?”

Don’t expect the game at E3, though. Itagaki said the timing isn’t right. But don’t worry. The game is “pretty well along in development,” Itagaki said.

“I’m building upon the context I’ve created up to now to provide gameplay that will really surprise people. I’m not sure there’s really a game like this on consoles, and I’d like fans to know that I’m definitely building this up Itagaki-style.”

    80% Complete
Before Hideki Kamiya and his antics on Twitter, there was Tomonobu Itagaki, best known for creating the Dead or Alive series and his outspoken potshots aimed at rival developers. Itagaki recently revealed that his upcoming title, Devil’s Third, is still alive and is planned for release sometime next year.

Since leaving Tecmo over five years ago, the Dead or Alive creator and other former members of Team Ninja formed Valhalla Game Studios and announced Devil’s Third, an upcoming third-person shooter, as their very first title. Last we heard, they were looking for a new publisher, but we haven’t heard much else since then.

During 4Gamer’s end-of-year talk with developers, Itagaki had a few words to share about the title in question.

“Next year will be the year we’ll be releasing the console game, Devil’s Third,” says Itagaki. “At the moment, it is about 80% complete, and we can about see the end of it. However, there’s still a little more polishing that needs to be done. That’s also one of the reasons I’ve decided to work independently.”

“For you fans out there, I’d like to apologize for making you worry,” he continues. “We’ll be going all out next year, so please look forward to it.”

Devil’s Third will be coming out sometime in 2014 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

As already announced, we'll finally reveal "Devil's Third" this year!

You can see that we've upgraded our title logo. I wanted to go for the metallic feeling of the Breitling that I love so much. But I don't really wanna tell you exactly why, sorry;D
