Definitely plan to replay this when I get another PS2, but first I plan to see if I can kill Yiazmat faster then my first time when I did it. I felt I did it took me too long to kill my first time, so wanna see if I can do faster.

My current fastest is 2:43:34, which feels slow to me and I'm sure it can be done faster, I think.

If anything, FFXII's story is a better version of Final Fantasy Tactics' (with the second half not degenerating into a "omg I need to find my little sister while killing tons of people who have nothing to do with that").

This is quite possibly the least accurate statement ever made in the entirety of BG forums.

i duuunoooo. i remember being told how to mine for fish off bg..

back to topic. at what point are you yaizmat killers comfortable killing him off in less then 3hrs? im not there yet, butt getting there. i plan on getting the best stuffs, lvl99s across the board etc etc before i go in. id like to win on my first entry into the zone, but not do it in 6hrs...

  7. #87

On my 2nd playthru I got my 3 mains to 99 and got everything else done to see how quick I could take him down.

Took about 45 mins with everything prepared, if I had farmed more Yagyu darkblades (best weapons to use on him, I only bothered getting 1) it could have been even faster.

Hence why I said "for a rpg".

But seriously, the way the story is told, and the way characters are portrayed is still original compared to many rpgs. Most games revolves around your character being the solution to every problems, but there is little to no focus on the universe around them, just the seting. It didnt feel that way in FFXII. The was a big and complex world to support the cast.

Maybe on the first disk but shit, it's not driven by politic in the rest of the games. It's a single madman acting alone against the whole world.

so ok, got my save working again but I absolutely misread the jobs and picked the wrong ones for vaan and basch. without having to start over does anyone know of a confirmed (as in youve tried it with the int version) way of changing your job.

I reallllly dont want to start the game over and I have had no luck with codebreaker codes so far

I personally never understood the dislike for Vaan. Maybe in regards to aesthetics? As a character I don't even think he commands as distinct love or hate just because he's just along for the ride a lot of the time, and as a party-pick I love him, as far as International edition goes, because of his stats, lol.

If you're speaking of legitimate in-game methods, I've never heard of anything like that being possible. What'd you mix up? Shikari and Uhlan names? lol

I know there are no legit in game methods, so Im looking at you good buddy gameshark (or equivalent)

His outfit annoys me, his personality annoys me (ignoring the fact that his friends around him care for him, especially penelo, for his own selfish reasons) and his reason for tagging along annoy me. I would have much rather had the entire game as a prequel, in the eyes of his brother. The opening CS had me drooling for more interaction with that part of the war.

    1. You have to have a modded PS2 to play the INT version?

    2. Unrelated, but was Parasite Eve worth playing? I remember playing it a bit but all I remember about it was being a cop with a gun and there was lots of blood.

#1 As far as I know, it was only ever released in Japan so I'm assuming it'd be blocked by region, but this may not be the case as it's just an assumption. That, however, means it'd still be in Japanese, whereas playing the english-patched version would mean either playing a burned DVD or the file itself by way of an external HD or computer. It doesn't necessarily mean a hard-mod or a physical modification, something as simple as an FMCB memory card can enable this, but something you can't do with a stock PS2.

    Alternatively, playing via emulator.

#2 It's actually kind of like Vagrant Story (action grid things) meets Resident Evil as far as gameplay goes, more RE on the story-side, but when I tried to play the original again like 6 months ago I gave up about 20 minutes in. Maybe the sequels are more worthwhile, but simple things that differentiate old games from new games like menu delays along with the guts and pace of the game killed it for me.

Parasite Eve is fantastic, you should definitely play it. Great story, characters and gameplay. 1 starts off a little slow, but it definitely picks up pace, and it can be hard as nails if you like that sort of thing. 2 is my favourite (first one I played cause they didn't release 1 over here), cause it feels more like RE with super powers. Same sort of tank controls on the field, but battles are a lot more fluid.

    1. You can Soft-mod a PS2 rather easily. I burned a modified copy DVD-R of a Official PS mag demo disc and just temporarily opened the case on mine to swap the real and burned disc. From there installing Free MC Boot isn't difficult. (More info: http://bootleg.sksapps.com/tutorials/fmcb/swap.php )

    2. People melt a lot in Parasite Eve. And the guy who sells/upgrades or whatever your guns in hilarious. It's a fun game (if a bit on the short side) worth playing once if you haven't.

PE1 has a bit of NG+ optional dungeon business (the 99 floor dungeon of death type thing) that adds more life to the game and unlocks a new ending. PE2 has a NG+ type thing, but you mostly carry over new weapons and shit or a new difficulty. Still fun though.

Ya I've never really understood the hate for Vaan. I think it's either people had a bad experience with Aladdin early in their life or just couldn't shake that feeling of attraction to some guy's bare abs. In seriousness though that's the biggest complaint from most people I hear about Vaan that he looks too much like a girl.

Then again if the biggest complaint about FFXII is you didn't like Vaan you don't have much to complain about since FFXII doesn't really have a main character, imo. They probably spend more time on Ashe and Bosche's story than anyone elses'.

Just going to say as well that Vagrant Story was amazing. Very very worth playing through the whole thing the story is epic and the fights in it can be really challenging.

I'd say the hate for Vaan is probably from his underage gay porn physical appearance and being generally annoying everytime he opens his mouth. Until he fades into the background and mostly stops talking which is only a few hours in. He's basically the cameraman for the game. Which is why I personally don't have any strong feeling about him one way or another.

Am I the only person who didn't get into the Hunts at all? You needed a strategy guide to find the Marks in a timely manner. Also, I'm not 12 anymore with three SNES games to choose from and I have some real life stuff I sometimes have to go do, so I don't really care to grind to level 99 for some super mega boss. Sure GameFAQs solves the first part, but I'd kind of rather go play a new game (or grind in 11).
