    Pugilist

Mod Edit: Updated 8/30/10, credit for the 30+ abilities goes to Gulkeeva.

    Fisticuffs of Fury

The path of the pugilist is one of incessant training aimed at mastering the traditional techniques of hand–to–hand combat. Though they command formidable power when unarmed, they are wont to use metal, leather, and bone weaponry to maximize their destructive potential.
Their preference for fighting at close–quarters makes negotiating distances an absolute necessity. Many among them accomplish this by using throwing weapons such as the chakram to momentarily daze their enemies while they move in for the kill.

lvl 2 -- Concussive Blow. 1000 TP. (110ish damage when learned and acc down debuff stacking up to 3x)

lvl 4 -- Haymaker. 250 TP. Only usable after evading an attack. (140ish damage. Seems to have a very small window after evade.)

lvl 6 -- Second Wind. 250 TP. (Recovers HP. 219-290 for me so far)

lvl 8 -- Seismic Shock. 1000 TP 10 MP. (Earth damage in a line. Doesn't hit airborn creatures. Did ~130 when I first learned at baseline earth stat then ~150ish at 50 earth stat.)

I'm very happy they brought back the old fashioned sense of FF with things like Seismic shock not being able to hit flying mobs. I'm hoping that there will be some big fights where the main mob will be very earth based and casters will get a float spell to avoid the damage.

Wow! looks like Pug is gonna be crucial to the tank aspect of the game or be a mandatory add-on for Gladiators! I already like Second Wind as a bonus, but Taunt and Jarring Strike look great for cross-class. Since Taunt is 0 cost, is is Pug-only?

So, for all the PUGs out there, what stats have you been focusing on? Most likely STR and DEX...but how about VIT? I'm pondering if I should pump that up too, as I'm taking a bunch of damage from a few mobs.

I'm as new as they get for beta testing so I'm probably not as high of a rank as what you are but I've been doing mainly STR,DEX and a little VIT.

I redistributed several times on my rank 12 pugilist and in the end I had around 42ish strength 30ish vit and 40 dex and found that was my best build, at one point all stats were roughly equalish but I found that pumping vitality for damage reduction wasn't helping much with mitigation. Maybe it'll be more noticeable at later levels. Also, I'm swearing by dexterity it really sucks not being able to build TP quick enough to spam seismic shock/concussive blow because youc an't hit stuff. You don't really notice the missing until you've reached rank 8 if you haven't put any points into dexterity at that point.

some of those last ones will probably be altered or changed, seeing as how we ve yet to see offensive stance since alpha, if then at all
not to mention chance of steal increases when stealthed? not a skill we ve seen in the game thus far

Haven't touched the beta in a while, play PUG though. Initially interested because it seems like a mix of MNK&THF. I loved to solo on 11 with my THF, is this the job to level for that?
