And the actual argument was that pre-civilization it may have been necessary during harsh winters to kill a baby born with horrible deformities in order to keep it from being an unwarranted burden on a tribe during extraordinarily trying times, and, like any other mammal, our man-ape ancestors would not have wasted the meat.
