Is your My Documents folder not on your C: drive?

That's the same error my friend got that I helped him through. Did all the default files get created in C:\Users\...\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version when you ran the updater or is that folder empty? There's a few config files and a couple folders with more files in them.

Ok I fixed it. Basically the game wouldn't create the folder. I reset my winsock and now the updates go. Howerver, slow. I can use uTorrent. But what do I do with the files once uTorrent downloads them?

when uTorrent finishes the DL look where it places it. then find your My Games folder and notice the similarity of the folder setup. Place the torrented patch download into the folder that it is in when you download it (but in the My Games folder...

    FFXIV: C:\Users\User1\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version\downloads\ffxiv-beta\d96437e6\patch
uTorrent: C:\RandomDownloadDirectory\FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version\downloads\ffxiv-beta\d96437e6\patch

It should be easy for you to figure it out.

As far as I know, this problem seems to be caused by the folder in My Documents never getting created properly. First check if it is there (~\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version). For my friend, the issue was that he changed the location of My Documents but the registry value never got updated. I don't remember exactly what he had to change, but I believe it was in one of these that still pointed to the old, wrong location:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

Im having the same exact problem, and i checked all my folders and they are correct. I also didnt use any torrent sites for the files, i got them all though the SE Updater. So i havent misplaced/accidentally erased any files. Isnt the game under maintence right now anyeays? maybe its because of that.

    (REEDIT, nevermind i found them)

11024 could be (and most likely is) significantly different from 11023. Like you two suggested, the best thing to try for a timed out error is to wait until maint and is over and see if there's still an issue.

Check http://ffxiv-status.com/ - Specifically the Patch Server. This is most likely the cause. I am also having the issue as well.
