Icon Pc Help Retail: Error while installing FFXIV

Picked up two copies of FFXIV CE last night and started to install the game when I got an error. Didn't think much of it at first but after trying to install again it gave me the same error. The error happens on both discs on 2 different computers. Error says (since i cant post a pic till 10 posts):

    Feature Transfer Error
    Feature: Default Feature
    Component: NewComponent2
    File: E:\data\data2.cab
Error: Data Error (cyclic redundancy check)

I'm PC retarded so any help would be appreciated.

Does this happen with both copys? cyclic redundancy check also known as CRC is usually due to bad media which could be either your CD Drive or the DVD is damaged somehow. If it happens with both CE's its most likely your Disc drive could be slightly damaged, in that case you will want to try and see if you can create an image of the disc using magic iso, nero etc and then install daemon tools and mount the image disc and see if that works.

The error occurs on both CE discs and on 2 different computers.

ok then you need to do it the hard way creating an iso(disc image) then mounting it using a virtual drive and see if that works. Ok first download magic iso can find it on all the popular torrent sites such as pirate bay. Here is the tutorial to make an iso using it.
    http://www.magiciso.com/tutorials/miso-createiso.htm

    then download daemon tools
    http://www.daemon-tools.cc/eng/downloads
download the the lite version as its free.

ill link a tutorial on how to mount an image using it
    http://teamtutorials.com/software-tu...-virtual-drive

Just got to hope the drive ain't damaged to the point where you can't create the image.

Also worst case scenario the CRC can also apply for Hard Drive errors but try the above.

After spending ~30mins on the phone w/ SE tech support it seems that these faulty discs are all over North America. So it may just be a freak thing where I picked up 2 copies of the bad discs lol. Going to trade discs @ my local gamestop to see if that works. If not I'll try the ISO. Thanks again JRice.

I'm having the same issue it seems. Fucking great. What did they tell you to do, get another copy? Because I ordered mine off Amazon, so I'd be completely screwed on trying to get early play time I'd think.

I got the exact same thing happening to me. Tried to install 4 times now. My CD drive should be fine, I just installed FFXI again and some other games in the last week. I wonder if it is a faulty DVD I got?

I'm trying to do the ISO method myself; however, if the DVD is faulty, I'm not sure it'll work. I'll post an update when I have some results.

Eh creating my own ISO didn't seem to work. Windows isn't even recognizing the file. If anyone else is having this issue, I'd just suggest torrenting an ISO file that actually works and going from there.

I'm torrenting an ISO at the moment. It is a huge download but better than dicking around with returning disks at the point. I'd suggest doing that, just make sure you hang on to your FFXIV registration codes on your faulty discs so you can actually play the game (and of course, scan anything you download as well just to be safe).

That's the one I and hundreds of other persons on this forum used to install the game. Works flawlessly

Good to hear, that's the one I downloaded.

Edit: I can also attest to this file working perfectly as well.

Yeah, it seems to me that there's a huge batch of bad DVDs all over NA. Same 'cyclic redundancy error' for me too, I tried installing other disks... it worked fine, of course.

Downloading the torrent now, hoping it helps... It's a .rar, I see, but what do I do with it after I open it? I'm not too clear on the "iso" thing or how to apply that and install the game.

And PLEASE keep seeding guys, want to get this working ASAP.

    2 ways :

Download and install Daemon Tools and "mount" the .iso, it will act as a DVD Drive, but virtual, directly from your HDD.

    or

Just open the .iso with Winrar, double click ffxivsetup.exe inside and it will start installing.
