I wasn't implying that at all, if that's what you're saying. The point I was making is that there is a somewhat depressing tendency for marginalised minority groups to avoid sympathising with other groups who have also suffered from discrimination in one form or another. I used the example of homophobia in the black community, but you could just as easily cite any instance of bigotry within any other minority group.

I think there's a sort of unconscious tendency to forget that people other than straight white men can be and are bigots. Bigotry is just more keenly felt when it emanates from a group of people who have power behind them, either in the form of capital or sheer numbers, and for good reason - history has provided us with countless examples of why it is important to condemn the racial prejudices of the most powerful groups in a given society. But rather than being a unique and unsavoury aspect of the Caucasian condition, bigotry actually originates from all human beings' instinctive and profoundly irrational antagonism towards the 'other', and every culture is guilty of it. Really the whole idea of there being a 'black community' or a 'gay community' is detrimental to the fight for equality, although it may be a necessary intermediate step... But it doesn't matter because ultimately we're fucked. The vast majority of people are too stupid for race, sexuality or even gender to become a universal non-issue in some distant utopian future. The only way there will be equality on this planet is if the human race becomes one big homogeneous blob of physically identical, genderless, asexual ciphers, and even then I'm sure there would still be discrimination against people who weren't quite as homogeneously blobby as the lion's share of the population.

To sum up: there will always be racism and homophobia because people suck. The fight against inequality is a Sisyphean task. However it is still something worth fighting for if only because damage mitigation is better than doing nothing at all.
