BG Member Of The Week: Ryko

Q. How long have you been a part of BG?
A. I joined BG in 2005 after months of lurking and a year+ of harassing Dragoons on the GameFAQs FFXI forum.

Q. What is your favorite video game and why is it your favorite?
A. This one took some thought but I think the answer is Dungeon Fighter Online. I'm a big fan of gameplay that allows the player to pick their own pace, and Dungeon Fighter has an interesting functionality that allows you to input manual commands for moves instead of sticking to macros or hotkeys like a typical online RPG. The benefit of inputting your moves manually is lowered MP cost and cooldown, so it incentivizes the player to maintain a solid level of tech skill. Combine that with the brawler gameplay and the DMC style combo gauge and it's probably the most fun I've personally had with a game.

Q. Let's face it, while BG is a lot of things, it is pretty well known for Final Fantasy. Do you have a favorite Final Fantasy character?
A. I am the ultimate Final Fantasy Fraud. I've played exactly Zero Final Fantasy games aside from 11, though I have watched 7, 10, and 10-2 played to completion...

Q. What's something you find interesting about yourself?
A. Gaming was once a pretty detrimental hobby of mine. In fact, a number of regular posters are probably familiar with the fact that obsessive FFXI and Smash Bros. play combined with some really bad priorities caused me to straight up lose my home give years ago. Since then, I've gotten my life relatively straight and now that I'm one project away from graduating with my Bachelor's in Game Design, I'd attribute a good portion of the analytical and design skill that got me through the program to the time spent playing those games. Arguing on BG can't typically be said to be a good use of anyone's time, but it actually did help me develop a keen eye for why gameplay decisions work or don't, so I guess there's an upside to it.

Q. What is something that has you excited for next year?
A. It's a tie between Uncharted 4 and Arkham Knight. Arkham Origins would have bee a complete waste of time if it weren't for Troy Baker's performance and an otherwise interesting story, so having Rocksteady back to close out the story is absolutely thrilling. As far as Uncharted, it's incredible to see what a combination of new hardware and lessons in close combat from The Last of Us is going to do for one of the most entertaining franchises in video game history. That gameplay segment that they showed at Playstation Experience practically sold me a PS4 by itself.

Mina: Watched twenty four minutes of the campaign mission one and it was alright. Dying Light is an *clears throat* action-adventure survival horror video game and if you are like whoa Mina that's a lot of words to describe a game, well yeah... it kinda is. The game is being developed by Techland, AKA 'Those guys who made Dead Island and Call of Juarez'. It plays from a first person perspective and it looks awfully pretty. The game has a premise of 'collect things during the day' and 'survive the night'. If this game can accomplish what it sets out to do, I think this will be a pretty interesting game. The game promises 60 fps and even a co-op mode.
Sonomaa: Is this a freerunning zombie game ala left 4 dead? The trailer didnt tell me much except that dude didnt stay with his friends. Oh well, Ill watch a lets play.
(BGer of the Week) Ryko: Honestly I'm not a big fan of first person platforming or first person melee so the whole gameplay premise is pretty much flat to me. Watching some gameplay, it's got a number of melee weapons plus mods so I'm guessing anyone with a dead rising kick might have a fun time. Not really my deal.

Mina: I am really interested in seeing how this game is received on release. Watching people coordinate as well as a single player trying to work to beat the teamwork is exciting. If nothing else, I hope that this game becomes a "thing" that I can spectate.
Sonomaa: Evolve is a game Ive been hype for except for last years E3 barrage which was wayyyy too many stupid commercials for it. I played in the beta which was great and absolutely going to pick this up early and co-op with my bffs. Left 4 Dead with kaiju, sigh me the fuck up.
(BGer of the Week) Ryko: That game looks like an absolute blast, though that entirely depends on the competence of the monster more than the rest of the players. Val the medic is like twelve types of busted in terms of utility, right behind Daisy (the Trapper's pet). I really enjoy games I can sit back and watch while getting work done and I can see Evolve being that type of game.

Sonomaa: I went through the trouble of converting a rom over to english and prepared myself for this gem then the NA release was announced so Im going to pick that up shortly after unless it gets horrible reviews. The CE looks so nice though.. I couldnt even play it and I want it.
(BGer of the Week) Ryko: If any title is going to get me into the Final Fantasy Series, this one would be it. Action-based combat with variable party composition and multiple characters to control. If I can get myself to care about the story, I might enjoy this one.

Mina: Good thing someone informed on fighting games was picked for this because I'm not into non-anime fighters. It's Mortal Kombat and I have a feeling that if you already like Mortal Kombat, you'll end up getting this. And if you don't. Probably you won't.
Sonomaa: Ive never been a huge Mortal Kombat fan but the graphics look phenominal on this one. I might get it when it gets cheaper to fool around with, just because of the prettys.
(BGer of the Week) Ryko: They had this at the playstation experience and it's really just the logical next step for the series. Taking elements from injustice like stage interactions and utilization, then bringing them back to MKX was kind of a gimme. I mean the gameplay looks solid, the characters look better than ever, and I'm sure the fatalities are going to be as eye-catching as always, but I'm always gonna find myself watching Street Fighter more than it's bloodier counterpart.

Mina: I never really played the first or the second Witcher, though I do own them. The series is lauded for being spectacular and memorable for some for the sexual content. I can't imagine the third installment failing to live up to the expectations of the first/second based on what has been shown. While I'm not looking forward to it as much as some, I think it will probably end up being a solid game for 2015. Good job!
Sonomaa: Witcher III looks fantastic, the first two were great, especially their re-releases and CD Project Red is awesome for its stance on DLC and DRM. I will absolutely be buying this game, maybe not at release but shortly after for the adventure of a lifetime.
(BGer of the Week) Ryko: Bigger than skyrim with permanent consequences affecting how the rest of the game plays out? I'm the type of player who would have two saves just in case I didn't like how one path went down, but that eventually turns into like 8 save states. It sounds impressive, and these massive landscapes and game worlds are all the rave these days with you kids and your next-gen games. It's gotta be the most anticipated game of 2015 for a reason.

Of course there are many other games we're looking forward to in 2015 but this newsletter would never end. Plus I have to save stuff for those newsletters!

8-Bit Theater. Having artistic ability is something I do appreciate with webcomics but what I do appreciate more than that is probably the writing. 8-Bit Theater is a finished webcomic series worth everyone's time if by some chance you've never heard of it. It's coupled with swings at the series we know well at and nerd/geek culture. Much like the other previous two comics I have pointed out this is a webcomic that paved the way for a lot of webcomics we read today. Inspirations and even cameos of these characters have appeared in many webcomics. It has a story and it carries it out with hijinks and jokes all along the way. One of the best completed comics on the web. Goes with my highest recommendations.

Q. How long have you been a part of BG?
A. I joined the forum in November 2007, so I guess that means i've been around for about 7 years. I'm pretty sure I lurked for longer than that though, since zilart release in NA.

Q. What is your favorite video game and why is it your favorite?
A. I would probably say FFXI, but not so much because it's the best game ever, despite it being great in story, music, etc. It's because I was quickly picked up by a linkshell named THElotusPOD and made a lot of great friends who supported me through thick and thin, and those are some of my most precious memories.

Q. Let's face it, while BG is a lot of things, it is pretty well known for Final Fantasy. Do you have a favorite Final Fantasy character?
A. They're all my favorites in their own special ways! (except Vaan.) I'd probably pick Sabin, Kimahri, and Wakka as my favorites though.

Q. What's something you find interesting about yourself?
A. My life goal is to find a way to another world with magic and go on adventures! I figure if you want to aim for a goal, you might as well aim for what you truly want and not just what is realistic to achieve. After all, many of our inventions came from people who redefined what "impossible" was.

Q. What is something that has you excited for next year?
A. I'm excited to see what new discoveries, or lack thereof, the Large Hadron Collider will make!

Mina: It was definitely a must-have if you own a PS4 but now that it's coming to the rest of the PS blanket I hope that those who aren't ready to pop for a PS4 will get a chance to play it.
Sonomaa: Resogun was the best game of the PS4 launch and I will absolutely be picking it up. Its stupidly fun and simple but pushes you hard with its bullet adventures.
(BGer of the Week) Psion: Haven't played this, but I've always been a sucker for these types of spaceship shooting games. Looks like it's well designed, too.

Mina: It's beautiful but it's not my type of game. I think I prefer watching someone play this rather than play it myself. Still, if you like the platformy puzzle sort of games, you can't go wrong with Trine.
Sonomaa: Just watched the trailer for this puzzle game and it looks fantastic. Puzzle games are a secret addiction because they can be done on the side and dont require a massive commitment, Ill pick it up in a multipack and make some friends play with me.
(BGer of the Week) Psion: Looks like it has a beautiful art style, but I've always been terrible at 2D platformers. XD

MegaTokyo. Back in ye days of early webcomics I remember reading these the day they came out along with a handful of others. I was especially into RPG World at the time. I believe I even own a MegaTokyo shirt somewhere in my closet. "Live in your world die in mine". It's a story webcomic with obvious anime and japanese culture lovingly added to it. Artistically, I don't know what to say about it other than despite the years that have gone by there hasn't been that much of an improvement. The reason why I stopped following MegaTokyo was the same as last week's webcomic. It didn't hold my attention anymore. Still, you'll see a lot of webcomics have pulled influences from CAD and MegaTokyo due to their early success and it's worth mentioning it. I don't hate MegaTokyo, especially in the earlier parts of the comic. And hey, maybe you're someone who used to read it and wondered "Hey, does he still do updates?".

Q. What is your favorite video game and why is it your favorite?
A. Chrono Trigger is without a doubt my favorite game, I play it at least once a year, usually two or three times. I love the music, characters, game play, you name it, not a single thing about that game that I don't love. Final Fantasy Tactics and Suikoden 1 are very close runner ups though!

Q. Let's face it, while BG is a lot of things, it is pretty well known for Final Fantasy. Do you have a favorite Final Fantasy character?
A. It's hard to choose one! I guess it would be Sabin, Final Fantasy 6 on the SNES(when it was FF3!) was the first game I ever played and I always loved playing Sabin. That has not changed throughout the years and I still enjoy suplexing a train today as much as I did when I was 3!

Q. What's something you find interesting about yourself?
A. Uhh not much really, just another nerd on the internet.

A. Heavensward!

Mina: This isn't actually a new release but it's coming out on the PS4 and I'm DESPERATE for game releases at the end of the year. In case you want to know what it is, it's like a Team Fortress meets Borderlands and probably several other games. It's free to play on PC already and will continue to be on the PS4.
Sonomaa: Team Fortress meets Borderlands? Sign me the fuck up! I havent heard about this game until now but Im going to take a look at it a little bit further, give it a poke or three. Im very very tempted to get a PS4 soon so this might be something I fool around with on it.

Mina: Arc Sys pretty much gets this week all to themselves to release this insane fighting game. So what to say, what to say... it's an anime fighter? I think the thing that probably gets me to really like this more so than most fighters is the overdrives and instant kills are so... sooo... anime...... DESTROYED.
Sonomaa: Early impressions of this game are that it looks really really awesome but has a few game breaking issues. Im a secret fan of anime fighters because they always look so good but I really wish they didnt have some of the broken things in them. Ill get this when its cheaper like I do with most of them.
(BGer of the Week) Fievel: Game looks great! I don't play fighting game but I have a close friend who plays them seriously and I love watching him play. I'm sure he'll be picking this up so I'll be seeing it more soon!

CTRL+ALT+DEL. Not on my top ten favorite webcomics but still worth bringing up when people want to see a successful webcomic. Nothing makes me feel old like thinking back to the original aesthetic of the comic and seeing how much it has grown since then. Despite the humblest of beginnings, we have what we see today. I personally have trouble finding positives about the comic because I find that others accomplish what CAD tries to do better. My opinions aside; it's somewhat story driven so it may be hard to simply just jump into the comic wherever. There are plenty of references to video games, comics, and other geek culture.

Q. How long have you been a part of BG?
A. I have officially been a member since January of 2011, but I've been lurking here since before the Great Salvage Ban of '09.

Q. What is your favorite video game and why is it your favorite?
A. I'm definitely a "never forget your first" kind of person, so my favorite game is the original Legend of Zelda on the NES. I've done basically everything there is to do in it barring a three-heart no-sword challenge. I was so stoked it was an Ambassador Title for the 3DS because it meant I'd be able to once again play it anywhere.

Q. Let's face it, while BG is a lot of things, it is pretty well known for Final Fantasy. Do you have a favorite Final Fantasy character?
A. Steiner is the best character ever created.

Q. What's something you find interesting about yourself?
A. I was lucky enough to have cut my teeth in a raid environment that was very "Leave it on the field." Being able to curse your friends out for being brain-damaged without them taking it to heart is a wonderful thing and I try to foster that thick-skinned mentality in as many places as I can. People usually just get offended, though, for obvious reasons.

Q. What is something that has you excited for next year?
A. Because I am a consumer sheep, I'm way too excited for the New3DS (and it really should have been called the Super Nintendo 3DS) and Majora's Mask. I'm also pretty excited for Heavensward.

Mina: If you told my 10-year old self that a Star Wars MMO would be one of the least enjoyable MMOs I would play in the future, I would have slapped you upside the head. Now it's hard to think of a way to make this game appealing to me at all. I'm glad that there are some people who enjoy it, but it will probably never be for me.
Sonomaa: The most powerful franchise in movie history and they cant even properly make an MMO for it. Yeah sure TOR is semi popular in its F2P state now but it should be rivaling WoW and crushing fools. In reality its a silly game that even people who play it regularly seem to feel the need to defend how blah it is past a decent single player story. Good luck TOR, may the force be with you.
(BGer of the Week) Lyall: I played TOR for a bit when it was first released and didn't really appreciate how much they altered the semi-firm canon from KOTOR 1+2. Now that Disney's destroyed extra continuity though, maybe I should poke this and see what's going on with the game. Thanks, Disney!

Mina: Hmmm... looks okay? I'm hesitant to put my money towards this until I get better feedback. Any game that relies heavily on the coop being good makes me nervous.
Sonomaa: The first Lara Croft actionish game was pretty fun, I Co-Oped it with a friend and had a blast, more of that seems like a great idea, sign me up on a steam sale.
(BGer of the Week) Lyall: After Gauntlet left me a bit disappointed this year, it's nice to see another game taking up the genre. It's always nice to see Lara back in the blue top, too. 4-player co-op has a mysterious power over me so I'll probably be picking this up for me and three friends at some point.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy

Mina: I remember picking up Phoenix Wright on day 1 just because the premise of it sounded interesting to me. Been buying up every game related to the series since then including repurchasing them on my iOS. However, I'll pass on the trilogy collection. I already own these games multiple times over. My opinion on them as games don't change though. If you've never played them before... wait... what is Sono saying?
Sonomaa: Ive never played a Phoenix Wright game, Im sure Im going to regret admitting that very very soon. Im sorry please dont hit me, I hear the games are fantastic though OH GOD NOT THE FACE.

Penny Arcade. As if I would have to tell you that. To be honest I wondered if I should never bring it up at all or just get it out of the way quickly. Who, if you pay attention to web comics at all, hasn't heard of Penny Arcade? Some can say their product is predictable and maybe you don't like some of the writing but I don't think we can deny the fact that the art is very good and even if it seems like their product has been made as marketable as it possibly can be, it's better than a lot of what's out there. Regardless of opinions, they are a noteworthy webcomic about video games. Now I'll stop worrying about when I should bring them up.

Q. How long have you been a part of BG?
A. Joined September of 2008

Q. What is your favorite video game and why is it your favorite?
A. This is a difficult answer, but I will have to say Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I was in High School when the game came out and I remember staying up late on school nights with my cousin playing the game without any walkthroughs. I enjoyed the story line and the music so much that every so often I go back and replay it from start to finish.

Q. Let's face it, while BG is a lot of things, it is pretty well known for Final Fantasy. Do you have a favorite Final Fantasy character?
A. Even though I've played every Final Fantasy games from 7 onward, I am more attached to 11 since I've been playing since 2004, so I would have to go with Ajido-Marujido.

Q. What's something you find interesting about yourself?
A. I love Astronomy and enjoy showing my friends and family the views of the sky through my telescope.

Q. What is your favorite dish for Thanksgiving or if you don't celebrate that--what's your favorite food to eat?
A. Peach Cobbler!

Mina: The most perfect harmony of the Etrian and Persona series into what I can only describe as the best from both worlds. This game is definitely not for everyone. I don't think it's for all Etrian players and definitely not for all Persona players. But for the populace of people that this game does apply to... god fucking speed. May your FOEs quake in fear of you and may your waifu be Rise.
Sonomaa: Ill be watching Mina do a lets play on this and very likely picking it up later to enjoy. The Persona series has grown on me a lot and I enjoy it, its just one of those things I need to find more time to play properly.
(BGer of the Week) TummieGaruda: The character design reminds me a bit of Soul Eater and the game has some nice visuals, however I don't particularly like the fact that the dungeon crawl is in first person view where you can't see the characters move around. The battle system is somewhat the same way where other members of your team pop into the frame for a brief moment to perform an attack.

This comic has extreme promise. It's a story driven comic that seems to be recruiting a cast of--well... I don't want to spoil it. It has a lot of charm and you can tell the writing is going to go places. Without going into spoiler territory, Oscar here has started renting a house from an ad he saw in Craig's list. From there, he finds out what sort of a house he's really paying for. Perhaps a haunted one. I look forward to seeing this one updated. Check out Wilde Life!

A. I've been on BG since about 2006 but finally started posted in 2008.

A. Like most of you, I never have One favorite game, but there are games I keep going back time and time again. I'm mostly an RPG player, so I've done several of playthroughs of Final Fantasy X, Seiken Densetsu 3, and Fallout 3.

Q. Let's face it, while BG is a lot of things, it is pretty well known for Final Fantasy. Do you have a favorite Final Fantasy character?
A. I grew up with the later FF's starting on PS1. Main Character: Squall Leonhart. Side Character: Vivi Ornitier. NPC: Dwarfs of Conde Petite FFIX

Q. What's something you find interesting about yourself?
A. Couldn't tell you even if I tried. I don't tend to hyper analyse myself.

Mina: It being a first party Nintendo title I have no doubt the polish on this game will be fantastic. I picture this game being one of those final reasons why people are getting a WiiU. Well maybe another Zelda title would finish this off but you get the idea.
Sonomaa: Smash is one of the reasons I bought my Wii. It will likely be the reason I buy the WiiU. Curse you Nintendo, for finding the spots to sink your blade into.

Mina: The decision to buy this game is reaaaaal simple. Either you've played a pokemon game in your life or you haven't. Basically if you own a 3DS and have never played a Pokemon game, I would just say give it a shot. If you have played one and don't like them... you probably won't like the new one. And if you dig the pokemon games in the past, you'll probably already be buying this. It's a pokemon game and if we think anything is going to change drastically about the formula we're only being delusional. Looks definitely solid and I'm already down for at least one copy.
Sonomaa:MY POKEMANS, LET ME SHOW YOU!. But seriously, Ill get a third of the way through, get busy with something, and not get a chance to beat it, just like every pokeman game ever. I love them, but I need more time in the week to be able to enjoy them completely.
(BGer of the Week) Waraji: If you're still into Pokemon, and you can actually keep track of how many new pokemon beyond the original 150+1, then go for it. In my opinion it's turned into such a cluster fuck after Silver/Gold, really liked the Night Cycle system that introduced.

Mina: I've never played any of the Far Cry games and to be honest, probably not this one either. Combine that with the lack of enthusiasm for an Ubisoft game at the moment. Game looks good but I'd wait until I see enough from reviews before I sink any amount of money into an Ubisoft game from now on.
Sonomaa:I was semi interested in Far Cry 3 and then that feeling went away, after watching the trailer for 4 it looks exactly the same but with a similar insane guy in charge. No idea if itll actually be better or worse but I heard the internet very excited about WAR ELEPHANTS so maybe Ill check out a lets play of it.
(BGer of the Week) Waraji: Never played any Far Cry game before, and just recently purchased a new video card that brought a voucher for a free game. Suffice to say will be choosing this game, quite excited.

Mina: Another one of those, once bitten--twice shy series/companies. I have an extremely low opinion on this series thanks to the missteps for Dragon Age 2. You won't see me purchasing this game for a while. Reviews and immediate opinions from those who love this series are coming out but I'll wait until at least 3 months down the line for people to explain if this game is actually worth my investment into this game.
Sonomaa:Ive heard so much about DA3 I feel like Ive pre-played the game already. Between some friends casually excited about it and one friend so OBNOXIOUSLY EXCITED about it Ill never hear the end of it after she crawls out of her cave a month later having grown a full beard asking what year it is. Ill pick it up on an origin sale in about 3 years and wish it could be on steam. I will say that it looks beautiful, please dont fuck it up EA.
(BGer of the Week) Waraji: Recently got Origins free on... Origin. Played the first Dragon Age, didn't get far into it, kinda felt it was lacking something. Probably will leave this series for the distant future.

I guess since webcomics and games were a thing! Well not really but it's definitely one of the oldest webcomics out there that has stuck around (2003). Usually pokes fun at games launching that week or retreads games that have been out for awhile. Q. How long have you been a part of BG?
A. I joined in October, 2006. As a lot of others in that time frame, FFXI was the bee's knees and all the great drama was on BG. Being a member of IRON on Bismarck at that time, we found ourselves in a lot of the drama. Everything from the graphical glitch that made it look like one of our Drk/Sam's having a kraken club in the offhand, to everything Tredvolt and even Kiluminati, RustyMetal and crew's unhealthy obsession with Sendo, one of our shell leaders, if there was Bismarck Drama, IRON was in it.

Q. What is your favorite video game and why is it your favorite?
A. This is a tough one. Quite a few games hold special places in my heart. FFXI was my first MMO. Counterstrike and TFC is what got me hooked on FPS's on the PC. I met my wife Astylla in World of Warcraft. I've probably sank enough quarters in Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat to buy a small third world nation. Final Fantasy 2 (IV) on the SNES solidified my love for RPG's, and I think I've actually bought every release of this game outside of on the Wii Shop.

Q. Let's face it, while BG is a lot of things, it is pretty well known for Final Fantasy. Do you have a favorite Final Fantasy character?
A. What's with all the tough questions? Edgar is probably up there. He's as suave as James Bond with the ladies, and who doesn't like someone who puts on a hockey mask before brutally murdering a monster with a chainsaw? If you put a gun to my head though, I'd probably have to say Kefka. Out of all the Final Fantasy villians, he is by far the most insane and evil of them all. And he has the best villian theme of all the Final Fantasy villians to boot.

Q. What's something you find interesting about yourself?
A. This is hard. I've always considered myself a relatively boring person. I'd probably have to go with my love of music and it's influence on me and my family. In High School I sang (badly) for four years in our choir, including doing two Musicals, Anything Goes & 42nd Street. My grandmother raised me on Pavaratti. My dad always listend to oldies and Motown, so I spent a lot of time listening to the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Cream, The Monkeys, etc. Once in Highschool I discovered Rap, 80's music, and hard rock. Biggest thrill though was my cousin becoming the last guitarist for Faith No More and getting to see them live. So I guess I can brag and say my cousin got to live the rock star life. Was bittersweet though as his grandmother passed away about a month after getting to see him perform at the Warfield.

Q. What is your favorite dish for Thanksgiving or if you don't celebrate that--what's your favorite food to eat?
A. My late Nana's home made sausage and apple stuffing. I could eat that all day, every day.

Mina: I'm soooo burnt out on Assassin's Creed. I struggle to get excited about this game. I've tried watching videos for this and I just can't see myself purchasing it any time soon.
Sonomaa: Unity seems like it might be a good version of AssCreed but the last version I really liked was Black Flag. The 30 fps controversy and the entire "we cant have female assassins" also turned me off on this. Ubisoft seems to be a little too sloppy with their coding and their PR so this is just another steam sale Assassins Creed of Duty: Modern Unity.
(BGer of the Week) Melena: Honestly, indifferent to it. The only one I played was Black Flag on the PS4. Picked it up at launch, and honestly I couldn't get into it.

Mina: If you didn't purchase Valkyria Chronicles in the past and can jump on this purchase--please do. The Valkyria Chronicles series is a tactics RPG with a first person view. So while you're still dealing with grid-based combat there is also some depth in your decisions. Enemies can fire at you while you're moving on the map and positioning yourself. The class system has a rock-paper-scissors-nuke-tank setup so some classes are better suited to take down other classes. Going deeper, each character has special attitudes towards combat and their companions and mesh better in certain situations. This game is a gem but it isn't flawless. Still, I recommend picking this up. Even though I already own it on my PS3 I have already pre-purchased through steam in hopes that with enough sales we may finally see VC3 properly brought to the US. If not, well I gave more money to a game I want to see more of.
Sonomaa: Valkyria Chronicles, Ive heard so much shiny about this game, Im super excited for its PC release. Day 1 purchase for me but probably like day 300 play because Im so addicted to other MMOs.
(BGer of the Week) Melena: I may have to finally give this one a try. I picked it up for the PS3 ages ago, and then never got a chance to sit and play it. Wound up trading it in a while ago. Heard nothing but great things about it. Hopefully the port isn't brutally butchered.

I tried to think of the best way to talk about this comic without spoiling it... The Dreamer is a story driven comic about a girl who has very realistic dreams. The dreams take place back during the American Revolution and she retains the memories of the present along with the memories of her dreams when she wakes. I won't spoil too much for those who are interested but it is a well-drawn, well-written comic worth taking a look at least the first chapter or two to see if you can get into it.

Q. How long have you been a part of BG?

Q. What is your favorite video game and why is it your favorite?
A. Tie between Castlevania SOTN and Final Fantasy Legend II. I've played both of those games far too much over the years. They just offered so much gameplay and variety in playstyles.

Q. Let's face it, while BG is a lot of things, it is pretty well known for Final Fantasy. Do you have a favorite Final Fantasy character?
A. Either way it's going to be someone from FF VI. When I was younger it was definitely Sabin, but I've grown to enjoy Locke and his treasure hunting ways as I got older.

Q. What's something you find interesting about yourself?
A. I've played and built guitars for over 12 years. My last major project was buying a $200 electric and stripping it down to the bare wood, then rebuilding it from there with over $1200 worth of electronics and hardware. I also own a €2000 custom built guitar from the company Ran Guitars out of Poland.

Q. What is your favorite dish for Thanksgiving or if you don't celebrate that--what's your favorite food to eat?
A. Stuffing, followed by more Stuffing.

Mina: I'm not too interested in it but I find it fascinating because it is a Flash game that has been totally remade on a non-Flash engine. I would say that this would probably be a good sell to the people who perhaps don't already own the original or maybe die hard fans of the original.
Sonomaa: The first one Im still on the ledge about, it was fun but a little tougher than I wanted to play. I enjoyed it a little but not enough to go gaga over a new version. Im sure itll be great to watch on streams but Ill likely pass on this one unless there ends up being something to change my mind about it.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare

Mina: I'm on the side of the gaming community that never purchases these games so it is hard for me to really sell someone on this kind of a game. From an inexperienced gamer on shooters it looks like a solid shooter to me. In my mind I think the CoD franchise is pretty much the shooter everyone tries to build around. Either you try to compete with that or you try to make yours different enough to sell to the market CoD isn't aiming for. That being said, I'm sure this game will sell like hotcakes.
Sonomaa: I admit that I tend to get a lot of these Call of Duty games for the single player. I like shooters and this one will likely entice me either when its on sale or when someone sells it because they are giving it away with video cards again and I can spend less than 30 bucks on it brand new. I know Ill never get that amazing Modern Warfare 1 experience but I can hope.
(BGer of the Week) Krandor: Call of Halo. As a true of a Brobox One, I put down a preorder on this despite completely skipping the previous entry in the franchise. I'm eagerly awaiting the sounds of 10 year old calling me a n-word (hard Rs all around), telling me how they had set with my mother, and explaining how I'm a failure at life for my inability to play the game as well them.
That said, it honestly looks pretty damn good for a CoD game and I'm actually kind of excited to play it. The gameplay tweaks and putting somewhat of a loot system into the game seems interesting enough to hold me over for at least awhile.

Templar, Arizona. Hoo boy what a trip this comic is. It's a little hard for me to describe it so I decided to see how the author took a swing at explaining it. "Templar, Arizona is a story about a town that doesn’t exist, and the people who live there. I alternately describe it as speculative fiction, an alternate timeline, and an alternate history." The description continues on but I'll stop right there. I haven't read every page of it but something I noticed from the comic was that the characters felt like they had real distinctive personalities. I ended up remembering names of the characters and grew attached to a few. I'd give the first few chapters a whirl and if it isn't your thing, don't continue because it doesn't deviate from being weird.

A. I registered to be able to post in 2007 I believe, but lurked for a year or 2 before that.

Q. What is your favorite video game and why is it your favorite?
A. I want to say Final Fantasy 1, since it was the first game I owned for the first console I owned and got me hooked on rpg's in general, but that's probably nostalgia. I kind of want to say Final Fantasy 11 though since it is the game I have sunk the most time & energy into and because of the lasting friendships I made in it that continue to this day long after having quit playing it. Honorable mentions to Fallout 2, Baldur's Gate, Ogre Battle, FF6, Witcher 2, Last of Us, and Bioshock Infinite.

A. Probably my taste in music. It's constantly shifting and I like virtually every genre. Not long ago I saw a symphony, went to a rave, went to a few music festivals, and saw several concerts including Tom Petty, Jay-Z, Dropkick Murphys, Taylor Swift, Avenged Sevenfold, A Fine Frenzy, Fleetwood Mac, Motorhead, ZZ Top plus many others and loved every one of them.

A. My most memorable one was probably Zombie Jesus. Next one I'm planning is the dude on the cover of Quiet Riot's Metal Health album (Red leather straight jacket & metal mask)

Mina: I dunno. I kind of buy and skip every 2 years of the sportsball titles but that's mostly due to not having any friends who like playing them with me. The yearly update titles are always a hard sell for me mostly because I am the type of person who doesn't see the value in it. I can enjoy the older versions just fine.
Sonomaa: I played a stupid amount of basketball games when I was younger on my SNES but I havent touched them in the recent years. I know the NBA Live series has had its ups and downs in the last few releases so maybe they can get this one out successfully this go without breaking too many things. I wont be picking it up but Ill probably watch a few streams of it.

Mina: An action RPG that reminds me of a Zelda game with a Souls looking feel. Combat looks rich but from the very few videos I've seen I can't say for certain if there's a lot there or not. It does look extremely promising. I'm glad this is coming out on the new gens.
Sonomaa: Ok, I didnt know anything about this game but after absorbing a ton of trailers for it I have sufficiently hyped myself up for it. It looks beautiful, an action RPG that reminds me a little bit of Dark Souls but without all the soul crushing nintendo hardness that I just dont have the time for these days. Not a day one purchase but I will absolutely snag it on a steam sale.
(BGer of the Week) Amiricle: So excite! This game looks amazing! Very reminiscent of Dark Souls, so if you loved that, get this. If it crushed your soul, you may want to wait on this. (Unless that's appealing).

Two comics this week instead of one. The first is Eerie Cuties, a webcomic involving classic monsters like vampires, succubi, were-creatures... Story premise is high schoolers although one could argue the school setting isn't exactly pertinent to the overall selling point of the comic. It has made several spin offs with its cast like the second webcomic called Magick Chicks. If you are a fan of one you are probably a fan of the other. The art style, story, and cast of characters are pretty much the same. The comics don't come with my recommendation from a story or comedy point of view. But they are very well drawn. Plenty of fanservice for all kinds of tastes.

Q. How long have you been a part of BG?
A. I had to look this up in my profile, but 8 years apparently. o.o I was quite obsessed with FF11 (like most people here) and this was pretty much the place to be for amusing drama and endgame info. Even if I was mostly just a lurker back then.

Q. What is your favorite video game and why is it your favorite?
A. Xenogears. Final Fantasy 7 got me into JRPGs, but Xenogears was the game that made me realize how great a story could be in a game while still being really fun to play. I mostly just enjoy games for the gameplay now and the story usually isn't as important, but Xenogears will always be my favorite game.

Q. Let's face it, while BG is a lot of things, it is pretty well known for Final Fantasy. Do you have a favorite Final Fantasy character?
A. Hmm, this is a really tough question. Favorite games I can easily pick, but I'm having to think about this for way too long. >.> My username would probably suggest Sephiroth (which it was when I made this name like 10+ years ago for AIM) but yeah, grew up and realized that was kind of silly. This might be a really unpopular opinion, but I might have to just go with Tidus. Final Fantasy 10 being my favorite Final Fantasy, I have to choose one from there. I know a lot of people may find him annoying, but his story is just so tragic overall. Connecting with that character in that world over the course of the story just works. You pretty much find out about all the darkness of the world and his story with him and it does a great job of putting you in his shoes. Especially since he changed all of the other characters around him and ended the vicious cycle of that world.

Q. What's something you find interesting about yourself?
A. Well, the only thing I can really think of would be my love for Japanese anime, manga, and RPGs. =x Also, I can probably play through my collection of old games over and over forever and never need to buy new games again. 2D and early 3D games never get old to me.

Q. Tell us about a memorable Halloween costume you have worn or if you are going to dress up this Halloween what will you be dressed as?
A. I can't even remember how long it has been since I last dressed up for Halloween or any sort of Cosplay really. I had the wrong friends when growing up that weren't interested in stuff like that. =x Seems like it'd be quite fun. I have been told when I was younger I always wanted to be a Bat for Halloween though lol.

Mina: I'm still fascinated by the fact that Nintendo secured Bayonetta as their own to keep exclusively for their Nintendo console. It seems so out of place with the rest of the games they house but whatever! Bayonetta 2 looks just as bananas as the first. I do however prefer her hair from the first one. Call me crazy.
Sonomaa: This is one of the games I would buy a WiiU for. The combat looks amazing, the graphics look insane for being on what is supposed to be a really weak system. Ive been watching streams of the JP version for a bit now and it just looks over the top nuts. Very excited for the release, this might be the game that makes me break down and buy a WiiU for all the other games I want to play on it too.
(BGer of the Week) Scythiroth: I wasn't too interested in the first game in this series, since I don't think I'm very good at action games. After seeing all the crazy reviews for this game, I may have to check this out once I get a Wii U in the near future for SSB/Xenoblade 2. The fact that this sequel comes with the original game as well is quite a nice little bonus.

Mina: Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes! I'm going to be perfectly honest I've had plenty of dreams of how I would want to have an Avatar game. Now mind, I would rather see one where you created your own avatar (ha) and recruited a cast of benders from all around the nation of your choosing to save the world from whatever but I will settle for a Korra game. All of the videos I have seen seem competent. To my understanding--It feels very much like a Platinum Game. For those of you who want to experience the game and have no desire to endure Platinum Game levels of controller breaking: There 3 difficulties. Casual, Normal. And later unlocked: Extreme Mode.
Sonomaa: I didnt even know this game was coming out until recently but holy damn does it look good. Im a huge fan of the show so seeing this pop up is going to be SUPER EXCITE! When I first saw it I was kinda sad thinking it was going to be just another console game that I might pick up later but after seeing it will be on PC I was ready to go with it. Here is hoping its as good as all the gameplay videos Ive seen so far.
(BGer of the Week) Scythiroth: I love this series and Avatar in general, but I'm just not a fan of TV shows/movies being made into video games. There is a long history of messing things up. >.>

Public Service Announcement: If you buy the DLC for the game you can only play with people who have purchased the DLC and vs versa if you don't.

Mina: I already own this on my Japanese 3DS and I can't give it higher praise. I think that this is the right direction more games need to take for their RPGs with multiplayer. It has been met with high amounts of success in Japan and easily secured a continuing IP over there so I hope it meets the same amounts of success in NA and elsewhere.
Sonomaa: This game seems to be hitting every single little niche that I love about games like animal crossing and rune factory. While I have too many games to play now to day one it I will be tossing it on a wish list and might snag it on a christmas sale. Looks like a ton of fun!
(BGer of the Week) Scythiroth: Really interested in picking up this game in the future, looks like a lot of fun. I loved Dark Cloud games on the PS2, and since this is made by the same studio, seems worth checking out.

Q. How long have you been a part of BG?
A. About 6-7 years now. I joined before BLU was a thing and before we had to re-register for the forums.

Q. What is your favorite video game and why is it your favorite?
20 year old game spoiler inc. Don't you cry about it! XD
A. Chrono Trigger is probably the all-time favorite of mine. I love the closed-loop nature of the story and the idea that the entire existence of the universe was the dying recollection of some entity. It made for a sad but neat twist in a game that started out as a freak-accident by a mad scientist. :P

Q. Let's face it, while BG is a lot of things, it is pretty well known for Final Fantasy. Do you have a favorite Final Fantasy character?
A. I absolutely do. My favorite character is Auron. Not only is he unabashedly bad-ass, his motives are admirable. He died protecting the honor of his friend, who essentially died for nothing, and spent the remainder of his time honoring the wishes of two of his closest friends. He was the only character in the game who really had any sort of depth and I wish they had spent more time on his story (though none was really needed).

Q. What's something you find interesting about yourself?
A. My brain never sleeps. Literally. It spends all of its time analyzing every little detail and it forces me to look back at things I've learned, done, or said, and see if there was a better way to handle it or approach it. Typically I like that I am free to evolve my thinking beyond what I know and sometimes I regret opening my mouth before I know better.

Q. Tell us about a memorable Halloween costume you have worn or if you are going to dress up this Halloween what will you be dressed as?
A. When I was a kid I dressed up as Wicket for 3-4 years straight and won every costume contest, until Batman and other movies came out and ROTJ was an afterthought. I would love to dress up as Tony Stark, because most of my friends tell me I'm just like him.

Mina: Welcome to Elpis, where you get to play as one of the four vault hunters that were hired by BL2's main villain to save the world. What can I say... More guns, more butt slaming, more jumping, more enemies. If you bought and loved BL1 and BL2 there's not need for me to sell you on BL The Pre Sequel. You've already got this preordered.
Sonomaa: HYPE CANNONS MADE OF EXPLOSIONS MADE OF EVEN BIGGER EXPLOSIONS! I put an obnoxious amount of time into Borderlands 1 and 2, more of it will be even more amazing. The worst thing about this game so far has been the lack of 4 pack and that fanfest is a few days away LEAVING ME WITH VERY LITTLE TIME TO EXPLOSIONS.
(BGer of the Week) kuronosan: I like the animated nature of the game as it reminds me very much of Cowboy Bebop meets Farcry meets Halo. It's kind of like the animation of Telltale Games' Walking Dead. To me it looks like just another first-person blast-a-thon with nothing special about it at all. I watched three different trailers to get a feel for what the game was supposed to be and all I could get from it was "Buy this game, you loved the first one!". There was absolutely nothing in those trailers that made me want to buy it. Isn't Harmonix the same company that made Rock Band? I'm waiting for one of these characters to start parkouring across a guitar riff while a guy in the background sings "Enter Sandman". That would be a good trailer. There just doesn't feel like anything special about this game.

Sonomaa: I watched the trailer for this game, which looked like a horror movie, then remembered it was October and its that time of the year again when all the horror games come out. As expected it looked sufficiently creepy but I wonder if it will be able to achieve the tension and suspense and outright fear inducing hysteria that Amnesia was able to do for very likely a third of the price.
(BGer of the Week) kuronosan: Ah now here's a game I can get behind. Survival horror without the disappointment of Dead Space. It's probably because it's made by the same guy. In fact, they really need to just reboot Resident Evil and go this route. I'm already creeped out just from watching the first few minutes of gameplay. Holy crap this is creepy. A survival horror game is definitely made by these camera angles and the music. Holy crap that dude just got chainsawed. This is a game I want. This has purpose. Watching this makes me want to play simply because it's unknown, it's self-explanatory, and it's unique. Why is that guy chasing us? Who cares!? RUN! I feel like I'm immersed in it and watching that horror movie where you yell "STAB HIM IN THE FACE DUDE WHAT THE HELL". Mikami's done it again. Damn that camera not letting me see what's going on! WANT. WANT. WANT. To me, this is scarier than most Resident Evils have been since 4, and it's probably because they're going for the ambience without sacrificing action. RE has grown to be so over the top that I'm over it as a series. This seems fresh, fun, and scary.

Mina: It's unfortunate. I'm sure if AC4: Black Flag wasn't a thing we could say it was a pirate game worth experiencing but no matter what I see I think to myself that man... I'd rather be playing AC4: Black Flag.
Sonomaa: Ive watched two trailers and I cant decide if this is a game wanting to be a movie or a movie wanting to be a game. Combat looks slow and chunky, graphics look low for last gen. Sounds like a game somebody decided to make after seeing Black Flag and going WE CAN DO THAT, BUT FOR CHEAPER AND STUFF.
(BGer of the Week) kuronosan: What is this, Pirates of the Assassin's Creed? Elder Scrolls of Barbados meets 300? It reminds me of Pirates, only with more grit. I also want this, provided the main character doesn't screw it up with "Shiver Me Timbers" halfway through the game (or any point, really). Seems like they're going to score on this, as long as the gameplay isn't repetitive and the story compelling. I don't have much else to comment on with this one, as there wasn't much to see. From what I have seen, I like it. Then again, there was Battlefield Earth...

It no longer updates and I'm sure most of us have read every one of these due to how old of a comic it is but maybe you needed that nostalgia reminder about it. Brawl in the Family was a webcomic built originally around the idea of well... you probably guessed it. Super Smash Bros Brawl. The webcomic of course grew to be about game in general. It has 600 comic pages (well take the filler out and I'm not sure how many are there are) dedicated to it. That's the nice thing about a finished webcomic, you can consume it all!

A. Sazh from 13 because Japans view of black people can be hilarious at times.. (looking at you Barrett). Sazh imo is the best character out of that game. The scene where he confronts Vanille about his son is intense. And who wouldn't love a guy with a choco in his fro?

A. I love to cook. Im always cooking random things at random times. I try to find new recipes each week and try them on the weekends. I've yet to make a perfect general tso's chicken sauce.. this is my unicorn.

A. Uh back in high school i dressed up as Morpheus from The Matrix.. standing with your hands behind your back for 2hrs is annoying as hell.

Mina: The visuals look very nice which is pretty essential for a believable horror game. From what I've heard from the reviews out there this game is set to be a pretty decent horror game. I look forward to people coming and saying how good this game is. I hope there's a lot of playtime and it lives up to the expectations everyone has set for it.
Sonomaa: I want to be excited for this game, it has a lot of promise but an obnoxious amount riding on it since the Alien Colonial Marines mishap. I mean seriously guys, you have the perfect ultra killing machine enemy and you still havent found a way to make a really good game out of it. Maybe amping up the fear factor will work out for them.
(BGer of the Week) shidobu: This game has a lot of potential to be great. The part in the trailer when the alien comes down from the ceiling. I was like "yoooo sh#$! got real". I've watched the movies as a kid and enjoyed them. If they can recapture that feeling of being stalked from the shadows and extreme paranoia they might have a great game. And if they remake Ripley running around in panties & tank top...... GOTYAY

Mina: If you played the first one then you will be a definite immediate buy on this one I am sure of it. The game is more of the awesome that Costume Quest was. I regret not finishing the first one because this one looks just as good. Damn. I need to go play Costume Quest.
Sonomaa: This reminds me of an old Sega Genesis game where you put on different hats and got awesome powers. I cant remember the name of it. I watched a trailer and it didnt really interest me until the combat seemed ripped out of an old school RPG then I was curious. But it has candy corn in it, I do hate candy corn.

Would be really good intro to rpgs for kids. And anybody giving out candy corn at Halloween needs to have their house egged. This is something to play with the kids which is a plus for Playstation aint much selection for them outside of LPB and barbie games..

Mina: Nordic Games AKA Those guys who bought THQ bring you a racing game. I've seen footage of it and I'm sure there there is a market of people who are interested in this but I'll be honest and say that if I were making a racing game I would aim for the latest gens and try to push as hard as possible on the graphics. I don't see this game having much to offer on the older ones.
Sonomaa: I used to adore the racing games but Ive grown lax on playing any of them for a while (except Burnout Paradise, that game was fucking sick). I dunno, these games seem to come out semi annually and hit a niche walmart market of people.

A. I dont have a definitive favorite single game. I really love the Suikoden series. FFXI was awesome, really want to play it again but I just...cant. I think I am the only person who really liked FF Tactics Advance 2. Oh, and Tetris. And..

Mina: Love Lord of the Rings but I'm so hesitant on anything that goes from a really great book/movie to games. I'd like to wait until I hear some reviews from good friends before I dive into this purchase.

Mina: Oh man, you know I've been waiting for this. I'm pretty aware of a lot of the game's critical flaws by now. From the people who are pretty serious about fighting games this game apparently has a lot of disappointment built up already. I am pretty sure this will just be a game to enjoy for the story or some of the non-competitive aspects for me. Although that probably isn't a good sell for someone into the fighting game community which I acknowledge.
Sonomaa: I will be giving this a go later on, I really like the persona series Im just SUPER SLOW to actually play it. (thanks Mina and TBR for introducing me to it). Ive heard the bad press too but hopefully it can be rectified.
(BGer of the Week) Adajer: Indifferent. Weird though, because I have enjoyed Atlus games over the years.

Mina: I'm still not overly convinced this is going to work on the 3DS. Call me skeptical. I think if I watch enough people play it I can come to a decision on it but I just don't know.
Sonomaa: Always been a big fan of the Smash series for casual play but Im not sure the 3DS or any portable is good for a fighter, time will tell. This is the only smash I would probably get since I dont have a WiiU.

JL8 is a comic that includes the cast of the Justice League in their elementary school years. Q. How long have you been a part of BG?
A. I've been posting since 2009, but I lurked way before that. I first came to the forums for FFXI end game discussions once I realized how terrible Allakhazam was, and I've been here ever since.

Q. What is your favorite video game and why is it your favorite?
A. It has to be Super Mario RPG. My first console was a SNES, and that game alone kept my interest in gaming strong for many years. The plot was simple and unique, for a Mario game at the time, and till this day the gameplay is still fun. Add to that the soundtrack, squaresoft and nintendo cameos, and the game is nothing short of amazing. There are other games that come close, like A Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, Final Fantasy 6-11, but honestly Super Mario RPG started it all for me. With out it, I might have given up on gaming when I was young and pursued other hobbies.

Q. Let's face it, while BG is a lot of things, it is pretty well known for Final Fantasy. Do you have a favorite Final Fantasy character?
A. Chocobo! Not necessarily a named one like from Chocobo Dungeon or FF5, but just in general I freaking love chocobos. Do you remember the baby chocobo toy that chirped and came with a FF11 mog house furniture? I bought two of em, and one of em sits on my desk at all times sporting a mini sombrero from Mexico. I've decided that as I travel, I'll buy mini hats and build a collection of them to "equip" on him as a decoration. Love the little dude!

Q. What's something you find interesting about yourself?
A. Not quite sure! I think I'm a boring person, even though I have many friends who seem to enjoy hanging out with me lol. I think my best quality is how open I am to trying new things. I love experiencing new things, seeing new places, meeting new people. I'll almost never say no when asked to try something, assuming it isn't going to kill me or melt my skin off.

Q. Do you have any fun plans coming up that you want to share? Or maybe something memorable that happened this summer?
A. Going to Jamaica next year! Pretty excited for that. Might even stop somewhere in the Caribbean, but we haven't decided yet. I'm currently in school working on becoming a Nurse, so free time is something of a luxury. This summer was pretty boring because my girlfriend just graduated with a degree in education, so we spent the better part of the year preparing her for this new chapter in her life. We decided to blow off some steam with this cruise next year, and possible Halloween Horror Nights this winter. If you haven't been to Horror Nights in Orlando, FL before, I highly recommend it! Definitely a fun twist on the normal theme park thing, and it's quite a blast.

Cruises are one of those vacations that I thought for the longest time was out of the realm of things a normal person could do. Surprisingly you can sometimes find a very cheap cruise price if you're willing to do something last minute. I hope Salodin enjoys that cruise as much as I enjoyed mine. Cruiiiising right along, heh...

Mina: I'm a fan of the Dynasty Warriors series as a whole and when I initially heard the concept of Hyrule Warriors I was slightly concerned about what sort of cast would we be looking at and felt that not enough characters would have the same importance as Link. I'm pretty happy though that the cast seems versatile and looks just as fun as any other DW game. I don't know if this would have been a system seller for me but since I already have a Wii U I'm definitely picking this up. The only downside is there's no online cooperative playing with this game.
Sonomaa: I dont need to buy a WiiU, I dont need to buy a WiiU, I dont need to buy a WiiU. GOSH DANG IT NINTENDO, GOSH DANG IT!
(BGer of the Week) Salodin: Hyrule Warriors, who the hell isn't excited for this game? All the best LoZ characters with dynasty warrior game play? It's definitely a piece of the larger puzzle that equals me now buying a WiiU, when before I was ok with skipping the console like I did the Wii. Hopefully the great games keep coming, since the launch was rocky at best when it came to titles.

Mina: Ahhh football (yes, yes, soccer). FIFA sells like crazy over the seas. With each edition of the game the graphics get more crisp and the game looks more and more realistic. You'll never get me to buy one of these games but from the standpoint of seeing how far we've come in terms of quality you can pretty much put each sports game screenshots from the first to the last and see the leaps and bounds we've made over the years.
Sonomaa: Not a huge fan of FIFA but a friend is, Im sure she will talk about the game for a thousand years. I might snag it on a steam sale but Im not that big into sports that dont involve constructing additional pylons or wombo combos.
(BGer of the Week) Salodin: FIFA...eh. The yearly sports titles don't interest me. I did like those 2k games, mainly football, but once Madden took over I lost interest; I really don't like the direction the franchises went. Remember the 2k games on dreamcast? Now those were some fun sports games!

As a kid, I was in love with Slimer from the Ghostbusters cartoons. My brothers and I would get up every morning and watch the show, and I'd laugh at Slimer's antics. I can barely remember why I was so obsessed with him. Maybe it was because he was the comic relief, the friendly ghost that came around sliming everyone and everything. Our second week of this newsletter and I am very excited to bring you guys the latest news for this week! I'm going to test new ideas slowly and see how they go over with everyone. If I don't think that people are enjoying the new additions I'll swap them with new ones. Additionally if I feel like they are big hits of course they can stay. Don't worry. If your idea is not immediately used this doesn't mean I didn't read it or I'm not going to try it. For now I am introducing things slowly, maybe 1 or 2 new ideas each week to see the response. Also, if your idea isn't well received, I can still bring it back for special editions that happen every now and then if I feel it's still a good idea.

Question of the Week: Originally I thought to have people pm me but I think we can keep the discussion rolling in the comments section. Just highlighting an opinion or two would be a waste for all the other great comments I would have for the question of the week. I will pick either the most creative answer or maybe interesting to notate on the next newsletter. :)

A. Final Fantasy IX. The game went back to the medieval setting, which is my favorite setting for an RPG game. The characters were very thought out and each had a lesson to teach to other party members or just in general.

A. Probably either Zidane or Squall.

Mina: While it is a Korean MMO I have to say that normally I go in with expectations of grinding and that I will come out bored within a few hours of it. ArcheAge manages to escape from this somehow. I will warn everyone ahead of time this is a full open-world PVP Korean MMO. Some of that may scare you off and I suggest reading the thread or watching some gameplay videos first. Additionally due to how every new MMO is, as long as you aren't concerned about housing (which costs real money) and just want to enjoy the PvP experience it might be a good idea to wait out a week or two. Like every MMO launch ever, it's probably crazy.
Sonomaa: I wouldnt say Im terrifyingly interested in it since Im stuck with FFXIV right now but it looks SOOOO pretty and what Ive seen of it looks top notch. I have bad experiences with korean MMOs though so if I try it it wont be at launch.
(BGer of the Week) IceSylph: Indifferent towards it. It looked pretty cool, but I'm not really a fan of modern MMO's really. FFXI is the only MMO I've been able to really get into.

Mina: Final Fantasy + music can never be bad, right? I'm really tempted to get this... There's a song out there for everyone and the content is interesting. I don't know if it's enough to keep me occupied but maybe if I catch it on its first round of price cuts I'll heavily consider actually getting it. I think for anyone who bought the first Theatrhythm this game is an automatic buy because of how well received the first one was.
Sonomaa: It looks interesting, art style looks pretty cute, I might try it when its cheaper, never really been into music games that much.
(BGer of the Week) IceSylph: It's just not my type of game. Final Fantasy is my favorite series, however I'm not really into the gameplay. The music though is great.

Mina: Gosh, it's a NIS game and not only that... one I know nothing about... All I know is it's a turn-based RPG... with lots of fanservicey sort of art available on the internet. I am a big fan of this Harley character... hmm... yes... Lots of... boob jiggling. In all seriousness, it is made by Compile Heart which is your Record of Agarest and Hyperdimension Neptunia games. I'm feeling that this is probably more or less closer to the Hyperdimension games judging from the videos I've watched. This is good to me because holy smokes, Record of Agarest is not a game I would recommend. I think the HN games are pretty well made but my gripe with them was always I felt like I was playing some eroge looking game (they aren't) with buttloads of puns (well they do). What I think Fairy Fencer F does is probably takes itself more seriously than HN which is neither a bad or good thing but probably something I would be more likely to want to play. Unfortunately this is just from a cursory glance so I will probably wait until it launches and I see actual reviews to make a judgement call on this one. (Also does anyone see Kirito and Asuna in this box art cause I know I DO)
Sonomaa: I wasnt really that interested in it until I learned about turn based, which is something I adore. Going to keep my eye on it.

Hello BGers! This is a new weekly newsletter for your BG. So what's in store for our newsletter?

- Getting to know a BG member.
This person will be randomly selected based on activity. So if you're around a lot, you will be in the pool to be selected!
- Game releases along with your favorite game news poster's opinion, 6souls.
I can't keep up with all the games that come out all the time--but I know someone who does keep on top of this! Additionally if you are the person selected for the interview for the week you get to give your opinion about the games being released that week too! :) His birthday was this weekend however and he's been busy so we weren't able to get him to comment this week.
- BG related news of course! Highlighting some events that you may have missed.
More or less for fun. Randomly picking some threads that we skip over.
- More as this grows.

For our first week since we didn't get a chance to really grab someone for a quick interview I figured we'd start with Sonomaa!

BG Member Of The Week: Sonomaa

Q. How long have you been a part of BG?
A. I was accepted into BG on 2/17/2006.

Q. What is your favorite video game and why is it your favorite?
A. Final Fantasy 6. Ive played this game basically more than any other FF game barring 11 and maybe Tactics. FF6 was energy for me, pure and simple, I had multiple strategy guides memorized and I would replay the game over and over again, always wanting to build perfect parties. I once restarted the game because I calculated my level 98 Locke could have had one more speed because I didnt have the proper esper on him and considered that game a wash. I liked to grind for hours and would do 3 character solo runs through the final dungeon.

Q. Let's face it, while BG is a lot of things, it is pretty well known for Final Fantasy. Do you have a favorite Final Fantasy character?
A. Shadow from Final Fantasy 6 is my favorite, he has a very interesting backstory, some of which we didnt get to see in the NA version.

Q. What's something you find interesting about yourself?
A. I always remember useless information, people generally use me to remember things, Im ok with this.

Q. Do you have any fun plans coming up that you want to share? Or maybe something memorable that happened this summer?
A. Im going to FanFest with Ragns, Laysha, and Odessiron. Im super pumped because Im real close friends with all 3 of them and were going to have a great time. Itll be one of the few vacations I get to take ever and Im going to think only about my friends, Final Fantasy, and adventure for a whole long weekend.

Awww man, I'm so envious of everyone who gets to go to FanFest this year. If you're going to FanFest you have to remember to take pictures!

Mina: If somehow you haven't heard what Destiny is, it is a first-person shooter with online multiplayer in a science fiction open world setting. I've had it pre-ordered since day 1 and really enjoyed playing the Alpha. I'm all signed up for the clan so I'm looking forward to playing with everyone.
(BGer of the Week) Sonomaa: They are very inconsistent about what sort of power Destiny requires, some of the articles written make it sound like developing the PC version is impossible because the next gen consoles have TOO MUCH GRAPHIX. Regardless of the inconsistencies of Bungie, I think the game looks interesting and I'll very likely be playing it for the PC release.

Unfortunately it looks like Destiny's launch has scared away the large releases for this week.

The newest section marked X. Article Links is a new section to the rules added on 9/3/2014.

Gamespot and IGN articles are not allowed to be linked on BG from DMCA threats. Future threats from other sites will also be blacklisted.

Any quotes from an article must include the web link to the article in the same post as the quote. Quotes cannot contain more than five sentences from the article. After the article is linked, future posts do not need to keep reposting the link. While not required, please learn to write a summary of the article in your post. Many posters read BG from their phones and cannot always click the link. Summaries can be as long as you want them to be.

If you make a mistake you will not be given an infraction, but your posts will be edited and you may receive a warning. If you attempt to circumvent the rules (ie. quoting five sentences each among several posts) you will be infracted or banned.
