Music Friday

Rate this Entry
I have this little "segment" on my blog called "Music Friday" in which I showcase a song from a videogame (or that has appeared in a videogame) that has caught my attention in the week. This week's the turn of a Bayonetta 2 theme. The post, as usual, originally appeared on my blog.

Morning! Let’s all thread together through the treacherous path of the final day of the work week joined by some great music!

I've never played a Bayonetta game. In my ignorance of it, I've always thought of it as "Devil May Cry with boobs". Thus, the announcement of the second one coming was not relevant in my book; the fact it was coming exclusively to Wii U was more interesting - 'twas in the days of "why on Earth would anyone buy a Wii U?".

B2 has been getting some great reviews, and it seems to be a great game released for a console that desperately needed it. It's GOTY candidate on some websites. I'm not buying a Wii U but the game looks fun, so I guess if you have one this one's a must get.

Speaking of GOTY, I recently read a Kotaku article about their picks for best game music of the year, and the song I bring you today was on this list. "A B2 song? Really?" YA, RLY. Needless to say I was quite surprised. This piece isn't probably for everybody, it has a pop-sugary japanese coat all over it, but I really dig it! It reminds me a bit of the FFXIII-2 OST, but it also feels like something else - fast times, anime, youth, action. Here's a track for the "why would you do this SE?" sequel to XIII:

Sit back, change into something more comfortable (as long as it's not a suit made of your own hair!) and welcome the weekend with an attitude that screams "tomorrow is mine!".

As this isn't the first of these Friday segments, I'll link to the category in my blog, in case anyone wants to check them out: previous Music Fridays.

Game on.

Oh man, you're into vidya music? I think I like you already!
Bayonetta music definitely isn't my bag but when it comes to character action games and good music. Can't go wrong with Shinobi.

    Have you heard this before?

I like video game music that can evoke the feeling of the game, be it by bringing back a memory (for example, FFVI's OST) or by being representative of the game (even if I haven't played it) such as this piece.

I haven't listened to any Shinobi tracks. You are talking about the Shinobi series? Only one I played was the old-school Genesis one!

Edit: Just listened to your sample (YT is stupid today over here, it didn't display earlier)... that's a nice track! It's somehow "80s" and modern.

Haha, yep. Its that same Shinobi series! That one is from a PS2 game though.

I feel mostly the same and I usually like the distinct types of music that make you instantly think of a specific game. Bayonetta's music fits that to the T but there's something about it I just can't wrap my head around. Well, glad you enjoyed the Bayo theme, I'm sure the folks over at PG games would love to hear that (and they are pretty active on twitter to boot).

Bayonetta 2 music definitely is in my wheelhouse. While you have the quirky themes like Tomorrow is Mine, Moon River and Fly me to the Moon I'm much more of a fan of the boss music. Even without context some of them are pretty awesome.

I just now had the chance to listen to the tracks you offered, Elcura. Boss themes are, expectedly, very grandiose. I'm starting to get curious to play the first Bayonetta (on PS3, as I do not - nor plan to - own a Wii U).
