Considering we’re about to suffer many more painful adventures in the Duty Finder with the new 3.1 update I thought it was a good timing to comment on this.
Since World of Warcraft popularized the Dungeon Finder it seems to have become the standard way for any MMO nowadays to match up players. Of course this encourages a lot of people to act like complete idiots since they think they’re anonymous and have no reason to save their reputation considering all servers are mixed together for the matchup.
First I have no problems carrying people in dungeons since they’re unavoidable. These usually make funny stories like when we carried that guy that was too drunk, high, sleepy, autoran into a bunch of mobs, forgot how to play his job after quitting for 1+ year, didn’t know how his job worked since he fate grinded to level cap, all accessories broke on first pull, etc… What I have a problem with are those that can’t be trusted in your team and you probably know who these are too. These gimps usually come in many kinds.
Ever went into a dungeon and wondered for 20 mins why it was going so badly to realize that one of your members is 20 levels undergear. When you dare ask about about their gear they usually answer with insults and/or call you an elitist asshole and so on.
Then there’s the guy leveling up in garbage gear to farm materias and you know he has better gear since they actually took the time to glamour them.
There’s also this guy that you know he’s doing something wrong since his rotation only consists of spamming touch of death over and over. Of course the moment you try to tell them this might not be the best way their job work they immediately jump on the “don’t tell me how to do my job” excuse.
Then there’s the princess or also known as the whining bitch. These are most often seen as healers or tanks. Some examples include a WHM spamming the fuck out of Cure 2 asking a break after every pull since they keep going OOM or a tank that ask the other members to not even apply dots to anything other than their main target otherwise they lose hate.
Many people will overreact and act like complete douchebags if you underperform but it doesn’t mean they’re wrong because of their attitude.

Here’s a brief list of symptoms associated with being a bad PuG player:
- Insulting anyone in your party.
- Thinking the people in your party are there to carry you to the end of the dungeon.
- Getting frustrated when people inspect your gear.
- Requiring to glamour your gear to hide your gimpness.
- Never reading the tooltips of your class abilities.
- Ignoring every single advice people give you.
- Getting into a Savage or Extreme fight without looking for information about it.
- Using the same play style than when you were level 10.
- Thinking that paying a subscription grants you anything.
TLDR: most parties won’t mind if you’re bad but don’t try to hide to the rest of the party that you’re a leech by being dishonest or an asshole.
