    Since installing Service Pack 2...

At first FFXI wouldn't load at all cus it was firewalled, so I took all that off, now it will load Playonline, let me click the FFXI icon then play twice, then it just says error. Any idea how to fix this? I don't know much about PCs but something tells me it's cus it's thinking about going to full screen and it's blocked somewhere somehow. Tried with and without windower but there's no difference.

With windower i would like to think maybe some type of IR device may have reinstalled on the unit. But since happening with an with out, can't say, something's definitely changed

Protip: If your comp runs fine, dont install the service pack.

    Horrible recommendation.

Service Packs include security patches. Read the whole IE 6, IE 7, Firefox post extravaganza here on this forum.

Strange that it wouldn't load firewalled. I have SP3 + firewall here and it works fine. What are the errors your getting? Details would help.

EVERYtime my friends and I install this garbage our comps freeze or run slow and we are forced to do a restore point to the day before. My comp runs great, you don't need security patches if u take care of your computer right.

You mean like the 3 zero day exploits that MS has patched in the last 3 months that allow unauthenticated users to access and become administrators on your pc without your knowledge?

You're the exception, not the rule. My group and I manage a 30,000 person network that spans 2 continents. I tend to find that people that have issues applying the patches are typically the people that are already root kitted / infected. So our solution was force them via network policies. Issues dropped within months.

I would imagine he means Vista SP2, which is in beta.

Just about everyone almost HAS to have XP SP2 to even do anything these days.

You would hope but the OP lacks a bunch of details, so I have no idea.

My XP install disc is still only SP1

But agreed. Too much info lacking to make determine any issues.

    XP or Vista?
Launching POL or direct to FFXI?
    Launching Windower first?
Is the error windows based or POL based?
    What is the error?
