A question for all you parents out there what kind of cake did you serve your little one on his/her 1st birthday? I need some ideas/recipes on what to serve my little one though i am pretty sure the best bet is a Carrot cake or something.

We did cupcakes, and let her just dive in and go crazy.
Red Velvet.
We got two cakes.
One was a large cake for all the party goers that was done up really pretty.
2nd was a small (8 inch maybe?) round cake with a shit ton of icing and a big "1" on it. It was her cake to completely smash into. I think my wife called it a smash cake.
We just got my daughter a small chocolate cake with chocolate icing, maybe 4x4 inches or so. She didn't eat much of it and was mostly just fascinated by the chocolate all over her hands.
Skip the cake. Buy a can of frosting, wipe some on the kid's face and hands, take a few pictures, and call it a day.
They aren't going to remember anyway.
By that logic I don't remember most of my 21st birthday, although I am VERY sure it happened.
Doing the small things matter even at that young age.
The house I work at every day has a 1 and 2.5 year old. This one year old just had his birthday yesterday.
They're cute kids, but yeah, this 1 year old doesn't know what the fuck, kid can't even say "mama" - he'd survive not getting cake for a birthday he doesn't even comprehend.
(lol @ taking a troll joke post seriously)
Spoiler: show
Oh god, my son's 1st is coming up soon and I know exactly what you mean by smash cake. I think for lulz I'm gonna make one that looks like a giant cheerio.
Here's a picture from my daughter's party

Edit: damnit hold on a minute
daaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwww
We did exactly what Tyche did, we went to the local grocery store's bakery, bought a "normal" birthday cake and told them it was for a one year old. They gave us a smaller cake the same size as Tyche's free of charge and it was for Jake to make a mess with.
Just get the kid anything that they can smush their hands in have fun. The first birthday party is more for you to remember it than for them.
If you're making it yourself you can control what you put into the cake but I wouldn't serve a 1 year old a store-bought carrot cake as they tend to have walnut chunks in them.
I did the same as most of you here, the bakery provided a "Toddler Cake" free of charge with the purchase of the big cake for everyone attending. Unfortunately I had to "Encourage" her to play with the cake as she was just poking at it really. Nothing wrong with putting her hands in the cake itself!
We bought a cupcake for his actual birthday, which was on a Tuesday.
We then followed up with a party cake that next Saturday, and the grocery store threw in a smaller cake just for the boy to smash up. Pretty cool of them.
