Macrium Reflect Free Edition can make a full disk image and can help you create a rescue CD... simply put the image on an external or network drive and you'll be good to go
Most netbooks usually have a partitioned restore drive incase you ever need to restore it. I would suggest you check the manual for instructions on how to restore it if it ever comes down to it.
You can also find directions via Google or whatever for making a bootable USB install disk. Then you just have an XP install USB key instead of a CD.
Or drop $40 on an external USB DVD-RW.
