Looking for Music: Rock/Metal of most sorts

So, all of my CDs were stolen from my car, and I bought a 160GB Ipod instead of reburning/buying all the CDs.
Don't think I even had 160GBs worth of music, so I'm looking for stuff I maybe haven't heard of, or maybe even stuff I forgot.

    To broadly put it, I listen to most rock, mostly on the heavier/harder side. A few examples I could think of;
metallica, soad, rammstein, tool, deftones, NIN, apocalyptica, Dream Theater(favorite of theirs would be Octavarium), Slipknot(which would be my favorite band, self-titled CD my favorite CD) I think that covers most of the basics.

That's not to say I only listen to those genres, I sometimes listen to stuff like rolling stones/beatles occasionally, and the FF soundtracks I listen to, just figured that's a bit too broad

In the progressive rock vein, classic Rush is awesome, Nightwish is pretty good, Sonata Arctica is good too, Symphony X, Epica, Avenged Sevenfold, Liquid Tension Experiment has some members of Dream Theater, Opeth, Porcupine Tree, Protest the Hero, Silversun Pickups, Within Temptation, just to name a few.

I just scrolled through my Rhapsody list, picking out things you might like.

Can always try a thrash/metal/punk band called Propagandhi. Supporting Caste is the newest album.

    going through my iTunes:
Theatre of Tragedy (same caveat, anything put out past Aegis is utter crap),
    Anathema
The Angelic Process (in-fucking-credible drone / ambient metal)
Helium Vola (gorgeous operatic old german / french / latin vocals over new music)
    Feindflug (sort-of metally power noise)
Lacuna Coil (italian industrial/metal, great female vocalist)
Monstrum Sepsis (not going to introduce, just check it out)
    Octavia (female-fronted metal)
Sins of Thy Beloved (a little over-growly for my taste, but the melodic aspects are fucking ballers)
Tristania (maybe too gothy? I like the dude's singing voice when he isn't growlin')

If you've never used last.fm before, a quick 'n dirty way would be to listen specifically to what stuff you're looking for and either check what's recommended for you, or just check out individual band pages and see the related/similar artists. Example: http://www.last.fm/music/System+of+a+Down/+similar - Granted half the stuff you listed is already on the first page, but that at least gives you an idea that it's probably accurate lol.

    - All That Remains

    - Mutiny Within
(New band, but very good. Dream Theater digs them)
Here is their contribution to the GoW III soundtrack. Sick song.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3Rvtb8_qoY

    -Alexisonfire

    -Atreyu

    -Coheed and Cambria

-It Dies Today (ONLY get the album The Caitiff Choir, everything else sucks.)

    -Nonpoint

    -Pain of Salvation

    -Rise Against

-Thrice (I love all of it, but if you like harder stuff go for Illusion of Safety, Artist in the Ambulance, and Identity Crisis to a lesser extent)

You probably won't be into all that, but I skimmed my iTunes and picked out some stuff you might like or that you should check out.

Some of my favorites I haven't seen mentioned yet, though some might be too hardcore:

    Avantasia
    Black Label Society
    Cannibal Corpse
    Children of Bodom
    Fear Factory
    Lamb of God
    Queensrÿche

Transatlantic - also has Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater as drummer.

I don't know if these will be to your tastes, because nothing you listed in your OP is really "heavy." A lot of hardcore has been listed, so I'll try to diversify after agreeing with some great bands that have been named.

    Melodic Death/hard to classify:
    Disarmonia Mundi
    Children of Bodom
    Norther
    In Flames
    Amon Amarth
    Scar Symmetry
    Soilwork
    Sonic Syndicate
Blood Stain Child (Japanese Melodic Death/Trance--just listen to "Freedom" on youtube)
    Killswitch Engage
    Devildriver
    Kalmah (more like black metal)
    Sinergy

    Power/Symphonic:
    Sonata Arctica
    Nightwish
    Delain
    Dragonforce

    Hardcore
    August Burns Red
    Parkway Drive
Darkest Hour (Could be put in Melodeath, but they're trans-genre)

I haven't really listened to much "heavy" metal lately (or what is considered that), but here are some new ones and some that may have been listed already:

    The Agony Scene
    All That Remains
Between The Buried & Me (If you only get one album out of all the bands I will mention, get Colors. Seriously download it twice or something, it's that good)
    Converge
    Irreversible
early Isis (Mosquito Control, Celestial, and Oceanic are their more heavier stuff)

Some stuff you may or may not like, but can be considered metal:
    Baroness
    Bossk
    Cult of Luna
    Gifts from Enola
    Humanfly
Later Isis (I really really really love In the Absence of Truth)
    Latitudes
    Mahumodo
    Maybeshewill
Mouth of the Architect (I only really like The Ties That Blind, they have a new album out but I haven't heard it yet)
Neurosis (Awesome awesome band that has been the inspiration for a lot of other music that I listen to)
    Ocoai
Old Man Gloom (These guys are what I consider "heavy" nowadays, when you listen to a song named "Rape Athena" you know it's good)
    Pelican
Rosetta (Probably the band I listen to the most, I'd highly recommend checking these guys out, they also have a new album coming out in May)
Russian Circles (Enter is one of my favorite albums to listen to from beginning to end)
    *Shels
    Tephra
    Tides
    Tides From Nebula
    Zozobra
