In one of the industry's most tightly guarded secrets. Ncsoft has teamed up with a small studio called Carbine Studios, to make a brand new IP mmo to be unveiled at Gamescom. They have been working on a top-secret MMO for the past four years now, and NCsoft have announced that it will be revealed at Gamescom on August 17. In addition, NCSoft announced that the game will make an appearance at next month's PAX Prime in Seattle.

Aside from the concept art, there's not much to go on at this point.

And here I thought NCsofts big news was gonna be on GW2 or Blade and Soul.

Lineage 3? Either way, after Aion I don't really think many people really trust NCSoft to make a worthwhile MMO.

Betting it's Blade&Soul they'll be talking about, unless it's a brand spankin' new one. Either way, never trusting NCSoft again.

    It's exciting times at Carbine.

We've been putting in some late nights and weekends at the studio - finalizing features, getting feedback, tuning - getting the details right.

We've been working on our game in stealth mode for a long while - waiting for the day when we could finally start showing our friends, fans and competitors what all the secrecy was about.

Hell, at this point our neighbors in the office building probably suspect we work for some particularly scruffy branch of the CIA.

Who are we? What are we all about?

First and foremost: we're a company of gamers. Gamers as developers, with most of us having put some hard time developing titles you may recognize. Lots of MMOs, lots of online games.

We also play the heck out of games we didn't make. We tell our significant others we play for "research." Sometimes, it's even true.

But mostly, it's because we love this stuff.

We have a number of ideas we've developed over time about what we think is important in gaming - we think it's about letting players play how they want, when they want, and with whom they want.

We're gamers that want MORE out of online gaming, and we're all ready for the Next Big MMO. Don't get us wrong - we're not dissing existing games. We can't; like we said, most of us have helped make them.

But we think we've learned enough to make some dramatic steps forward. We have developed some new ways of making online games; games that can adapt to you instead of the other way 'round.

I know, I know - you may have heard it all before. And we're not here to feed you a bunch of hype - that stuff kills us as much as it kills you.

With that in mind, we'll just say that Carbine Studios will be attending this year's gamescom in Cologne, Germany, quickly followed by PAX Prime in Seattle, Washington.

Our entire team has been making a game we enjoy ourselves - and we're pretty excited to tell you about it as well.

Sound's a bit too confident to me.

I don't trust the Korean market at all anymore, let alone the ones responsible for Aion. Never again.

I don't trust anything NCsoft handles, p2p grindy as fuck mmos that are usually horrible all together. One thing I hate more about NCsoft is even though there games are p2p they still have cash shops inside the game.

Also I wonder how Aion is still top played MMO in korea.

Fuck, you guys are hard to please.

The dev team is a western studio and not an NCsoft internal team like Team Bloodlust (B&S). I suppose NCsoft will just be a publisher, like what they've done for Arenanet & Guildwars for the past six years.

I'm guessing this game will be quite different from what they're bringing with GW2 or Blade & Soul. It'll have to be.

There's supposed to be some artwork on their site, haven't checked though.

You guys are aware NCsoft publishes Arenanet's stuff too? They're heading up Guild wars 2. In other words, Carbine has the same relationship Arenanet does.

Honestly, it seems like they grabbed whoever does the usual PR stuff for Guild wars 2 to make a "We're your friends, for sure" type of post for Carbine's MMO.

Apparently, it will be a sci-fi MMO.

If its all carbine then thats fine, but it sounded like NCSoft and carbine were co-developing it.

Well of course NCSoft wil have some say in the game. No company is just gonna publish a game w/o having any input in it. But judging a company based on 1-2 games they publish is pretty stupid. NCsoft is publishing TERA, GW2.. does that mean you wont touch either of those games w/ a 10 foot pole?

    I thought so

This is a brand new western dev team that was formed back in 2005. Carbine is a software development division of NCsoft. So it has nothing to do with any of their Korean counterparts.

As for TERA, NCsoft has nothing to do with the game at all. The old L2 dev team left and formed their own company called Blue Hose Studios.

Who cares? It isn't out yet so why all the speculating, amirite? Just because it has a 'name' behind it doesn't mean it will be good or bad - see SE and FF14. It's good to see the market widening imo because it allows for new options and opportunities outside of WoW and maybe RIFT.

Assuming this is art from the game, looks more like fantasy than sci-fi:

I'm a bit intrigued. We'll find out a lot more soon I guess.
