I'm excited. I really enjoyed Mafia II. Never played I. Got lucky with II and got it for free. If you haven't tried II and can get it on the cheap it's definitely worth a shot!
Mafia 3: The Search for more Vintage Playboy Pinups
Hopefully a less useless overworld this time if they stick with having one again. Enjoyed Mafia 2 a lot, but the amount of pointless mandatory driving between missions as gameplay filler started to grate around the midpoint.
Don't forget the wanted posters.
Also to think the first game is 13 years old already. That one was quite the looker when it came out. I love the setting/era, isn't enough of it in a gaming context.
Agreed. The sandbox world seemed pointless, as there didn't seem to be anything to do in it other than drive from point A to point B and find unmarked collectibles. You'd think there'd be some side missions or something.
That being said, the Playboy Pinups were the best pointless collectible I've seen in a game, hope they do that again. I also really enjoyed the soundtrack, full of classic 50's songs. One of the first scenes after the prologue you get in your car, and Dean Martin's singing "Let it Snow" on the radio. That was fantastic, hoping they can reproduce that as well.
trailer looks awesome, not sure i feel about the the setting, im guessing new orleans based on the music and the wide angle shots at the end of the trailer. I'm sure they can do alot with it though.
Looking forward to it a lot, Mafia 1 was a great game, Mafia 2 was great but got panned a bit in reviews because everyone was waiting for a new GTA game and it wasn't GTA.
I'll probably wait to buy it 80% off in a steamsale though, my backlog is ridiculous right now.
October 7th
2K and Hangar 13 today announced that Mafia III, the next installment in the popular organized crime game series, will launch on October 7, 2016.Collector’s, deluxe and standard editions of Mafia III will be available for PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system, Xbox One and Windows PC. Those who pre-order any edition of Mafia III will receive the Family Kick-Back, which includes three exclusive vehicles and weapons available to players at launch.
Mafia III is set in the open world of 1968 New Bordeaux, a reimagined version of New Orleans bustling with activity and complete with era-inspired cars, fashion and music. After years of combat in Vietnam, Lincoln Clay knows this truth: family isn’t who you’re born with, it’s who you die for. Now, back home in New Bordeaux, Lincoln is set on escaping his criminal past. But when his surrogate family, the black mob, is betrayed and wiped out by the Italian Mafia, Lincoln builds a new family from the ashes of the old and blazes a path of military-grade revenge through those responsible. Intense gun fights, visceral hand-to-hand combat, white-knuckle driving, hard choices and street smarts will all be required to survive the mean streets of New Bordeaux. But with the right crew, it’s possible to make it to the top of the city's underworld.
“Mafia III continues 2K’s proud legacy of creating outstanding narrative experiences, and is poised to set a new standard for interactive storytelling,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “With Hangar 13 at the helm, Haden Blackman and his team of talented developers are set to deliver a truly unforgettable experience this October.”
“Mafia III introduces a true open world, rich with its own criminal ecosystems to the franchise, while still upholding the strong narrative storytelling and immersive setting that the previous Mafia games are known for,” said Haden Blackman, studio head and creative director at Hangar 13. “New Bordeaux in 1968 provides a unique and powerful backdrop for our hard-boiled story of crime, betrayal, loyalty and revenge.”
Standard, limited deluxe and limited collector’s editions of Mafia III will be available in the UK. The Mafia III Deluxe Edition will be available digitally and physically in a limited capacity from select retailers, and includes both the game and access to additional, post-release downloadable content, including the Season Pass at additional savings. The limited Mafia III Collector’s Edition is packed with physical and digital items, providing a window into the sights and sounds of 1968 New Bordeaux, including all content found in the Mafia III Deluxe Edition plus the original game score on vinyl, a collectable art book, art prints and more. Those who pre-order any edition of Mafia III from participating retailers will receive the Family Kick-Back, which includes three exclusive lieutenant-themed vehicle and weapon gifts available to players at launch.
Mafia 2 had some cool stuff, but it had a giant open world with almost nothing to do in it, other than find collectibles (which were admittedly the best collectibles ever, but still). You couldn't visit old locations, you couldn't come across random street trouble, etc. That was my only complaint. As near as I could tell, there wasn't even a way to detect collectibles beyond randomly stumbling across them.
Still looking forward to Mafia 3, though. If the driving soundtrack is as good as Mafia 2's was, that will almost be worth the price of admission right there.
Wow. Visually this game looks nice. I like the setting as well. Looking forward to it.
