Penalty shot for McD
Jesus Christ Elliot had no clue what to do there. He may as well be naked on the ice right now.
Quick off with a lower body injury. Boy oh boy.
Elliott was supposed to fix our goaltending ._.
That being said, I've only been able to catch snippets of the game so far and it seems to be a total open ice, no defense kind of game. I'm all set for the 3rd though! Let's get a comeback here boys!!
I am definitely on board for a legit scoring race between Matthews and McD. Suck it Hawks! Tank with 2/1 and Turris with the OT winner for teh fantasy pts.
TOR losing is just ridiculous though. Andersen was straight up bad and it was one of the worst team defense games I've ever seen.
Flames PK has more shots on net than the Oilers PP.
They fired Strombo and added fucking Mark Spector to sportsnet? And had John Shannon kiss Daryl Katz ass during a terrible interview?
Fucking Sportsnet.
Edit: That was a pretty PP goal. Bennett was fantastic.
Also while we're shitting on all the goalies, let's remember they did shrink the pads down for this season.
Welp, not really the start of the season I would have hoped for but I did like some of the changes I saw. Puck control was a lot higher. The chip and chase style Calgary has had for like the last decade was practically non-existent which is a welcome change. I think there will still be a period of adjustment for the team, a few more games, but not too many.
I'll have to see the highlights from the first 2 periods to see if the 3rd was substantially different.
Edit: Watching some highlights, there were a few sloppy turnovers and Elliott let in a couple softies. I'm not really worried about it though. I think Friday will be a totally different game.
I think one of the funniest stats tonight was when they broke down Johnny Hockey and his pts last year. At home: 1.40 PPG for tops in the league, then on the road (obv where teams can play matchups better to start shifts) he had 22 points in 39 road games
Was a pretty sloppy throwback of a game to the 80's style of "The mesh can do the puck stopping tonight. If our goalie gives up 17, just go get 18."
Oilers powerplay looked awful as shit, Flames had 2 shorty's while Edmonton had 1 shot total at one point.
But, I'll take the 2 points to start off the year. You know how it can be in March. "Ya know guys, had we won a few of those games early on, we'd be 25 points out of the wild card instead of 37!"
