The standees - Luke was already shown to have been teetering on the edge of the dark side, ie., Return of the Jedi.

I still think bringing balance to the force is being able to wield both the light and dark side, hence why Luke wants to "bring an end to the jedi" aka light side [only] users

I thought in all the books of Luke after RoJ he did go to the dark side and came back and was balanced. I figured that would be a part of the story for this.

Unless they're written in the Disney-era, then that's all considered Legends, aka, non-canon. (I haven't read any of the new stuff)

Yeah, if you mean the expanded universe stuff (Mara Jade + Luke having Ben Skywalker, Han and Leia having Anakin and Jaina Solo, and Darth Caedus) then thats no longer canon.

Which is a shame, because those plotlines could have been really cool to see in cinematic form.

Closest I think were going to get is Kylo Ren being a stand in for Jacen Solo/Darth Caedus.

Leia for sure gonna get got cause Disney has already said she won't be in Episode IX and she is too important of a character to just disappear or be written off. Not sure how they are gonna do it though since they said they don't want to do CGI Leia like Rogue One again and Carrie Fisher never filmed a death scene. But oh well. I trust in Disney.

Well, they have to basically rewrite IX as a result.

I was really hoping that the ghost of Anakin would make an appearance and sway Kylo toward the light, however, I'm starting to think that ultimately, Rey will be the one to turn him back.

That was not CGI, that was her daughter Billie Lourd.

Nah, it was a Norwegian actress; Ingvild Deila. I think they touched up her face with CGI just like Tarkin

It was CGI creating the young Leia appearance. Ingivild Delia is the one credited with the role. Billie Lourd had a small role in the force awakens and again in last Jedi but never played Leia in the movies.

I think they should go forward with whatever the original plans were, I doubt Carrie Fisher would want them to compromise the story.
