    About This Game
*THE GAME THAT INSPIRED THE MEGA-HIT ANIME SERIES
RETURNS WITH BRAND NEW CHARACTER ART!! *
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The 58th year of Shouwa, early summer
It’s June, and the summer heat has arrived earlier than it does most years.
By day there are crickets, and by night there are cicadas.

We’re in Hinamizawa, a small village in the countryside.
There are fewer than two thousand people here. But every year, there is an event.

This event is a mysterious death.
(The series has run from 1979 to 1983)

On a certain day in June, someone dies, and someone else goes missing.
The series of deaths is connected to the upheaval surrounding the dam construction project.
A murder case that was covered up is being reenacted.
Is it a conspiracy? A coincidence? Or perhaps a curse?

Someone who was supposed to be there isn’t.
Someone who wasn’t supposed to be there is.

Someone who was alive last night is dead now.
And someone who is here right now isn’t alive.

So, there is no way to avert tragedy. There is no choice but to give up.
    But don’t give up.

Only you can stand up to this.
I don't know if there are any fans around here of the series or original VN, but Higurashi is a personal favorite of mine. I never got a chance to play the VN and it's nice to see that they updated the all of the art, the difference is night and day.

Screenshots posted below are spoilered for huge. Also I just realized how awful that write up manga gamer did for the steam page.

I never got a chance to go through Higurashi, but I've gone through Umineko and I must say I'm looking forward to this

I've been waiting on this since two Novembers ago when it was greenlit, hype~

I definitely am looking out for this. Higurashi is great and it kinda gives me hope that Umineko will get done as well.

I can't wait to see what they left out of the series. Umineko had a god tier level OST, so I am hoping for some good tunes.

Who doesn't love a good murder/mystery with some psychological mind rape thrown in there as well?

I can't wait for Umineko (apart from the OST) because of how ridiculous the concept of

    MAGIC ISN'T REAL
    *uses real magic*
    WELL IT STILL ISN'T REAL
    *witches fight*
    NOPE

I need more of that. And anyone called Battle is bound to be a good time.

(I haven't played Umineko, that's just my summary of the anime.)

Tell me about it, I felt the same way. How can you even prove that magic isn't happening when all that mind bending shit is going on around you?

Well the UmiTweak got me curious, it uses the PS3 sprites and voice acting and patches them into the PC version, I have gotta admit that it looks way better than the original, everything looks so clean and different. I told my friend I was having trouble and he hopped on Team Viewer and fixed it for me.

Sold. Had no idea there was an English version out even. Enjoyed the show, so happy to get a shot to try out the VN.

Still holding out that one day a release on Blu ray will come out that is not priced at $300 per season.

Oh, the VN gets so crazy and convoluted down the road, makes the first part seem tame.

If Battle is still in denial I'm sure it'll be amazing, I honestly can't wait after watching the anime. I wanna see how crazy this shit gets.

I actually just got past the introduction part where you meet the entire family. Everyone seems so damn polite and friendly, that is until the subject of $$$ comes up and nearly everyone transforms into completely different people, and shit gets very ugly between some of them. It almost makes me think it's another curse of some sort, but maybe that's just paranoia on my part.

They weren't kidding about the word "novel" in visual novel. This is a shit load of text, might take me a pretty long while to complete this entire thing but I do love the writing, characters, and mystery so far. Worst family reunion ever.

this is actually the primary reason I wanna see Umineko get the same treatment as Higurashi. UmiTweak is nice, but sometimes it just stops working for me and I can't be bothered to fix it. Having an official version on steam with the PS3 sprites and stuff would be mighty nice.
