    Videogame News

So, as Kotaku as finally got smacked with the Gawker 2.0 machine, I find myself without a videogame news site.

What do all of you use, what recommendations do you have?

Any chance that Kotaku will change back to how it used to be? The new design really is terrible.

Siliconera is a pretty awesome site for more niche related game news

Only if their readership takes a nosedive.
So, if you want it back, get people to stop reading/visiting.

You mean an organization of digested news, and not the chaos of a forum with its fingers directly on the pulse of videogame trends? Do you want info from any particular part of the globe, or want stuff from the business end of video games? You have a ton of choices if you don't care about the quality of their reviews.

If all you want is a kotaku replacement Destructoid is still around. andriasang is if you gotta get your JRPG on. Gamasutra does a good job finding developer interviews.

There is also m.kotaku.com if you want the view to load with any kind of speed.

I used to read joystiq. They don't report nearly as much as Kotaku, or if they do they're usually really slow about it.

Forums and m.kotaku is no good. Both don't have "linearity", I want my news strictly organized from most to least recent, so when i revisit the site, I can pick up where I left off. Forum order changes with each new post, and kotaku now alters its story order.
It also shouldn't be too fast with updates, like tons of inane joke/crap posts padding the page. For example, I hate monday/tuesday on BoingBoing, because they post a flood of stuff that should have gone up on the weekend, and I have to go through multiple pages to reach where I last left off. Kotaku had a decent balance of not too much stuff, and the stuff they had was what I needed to know.

Don't need business/beep-boop developer news, unless it's the kind of business stuff that's actually game news, like a new studio opens, merger, budget cuts alter a release timeline, etc. Don't need reviews either, I can make my own mind up about a game.

And a wide topic range is good. Kotaku gave me all the news I needed, with some gems I might have missed otherwise if I had been somewhere else with a narrower focus.

And remember, lots of people call it Slowtaku, so that really is a ding against joystiq.

Kotaku has alot of useless shit on it, like what Japan had for breakfast this week, fuck that shit. From what I have seen, Joystiq usually gets everything up pretty fast. Everytime there is a major announcement, they always have it up first. I check every morning when I get to the office, I know they always have our press release up first. I use destructoid too, but I dont like Jim Sterling at all, so I dont read it as much as Joystiq and IGN fucking sucks, Hillary Goldstein man, dont get me started about that fat fuck.

I prefer sites that stick to actual video game info and announcements, not useless bullshit about what their staff had in their poop this morning, lot of that on Kotaku.

Perfect example, who cares about this dumb shit?

The usual news route for me is Joystiq, Kotaku, siliconera, and http://massively.joystiq.com/ for mmo related news. Destructoid and any other game news site I go to if Kotaku or Joystiq doesn't have up yet.

I usually just sit here and wait for Tobi or Insanecyclone to post... that's a pretty good way to get your video game news if you're as lazy as I am.

That's not even the worst. Tim Rogers is completely incapable of making a point in 50,000 words or less. Often, 46,000 of those words have absolutely nothing to do with video games.

Yeah it sucks that they changed the format for both Kotaku and Jalopnik, but at least there's autoblog and Joystiq. Other than that to be honest I don't know of any other sites.

Top middle of Kotaku there is a grid looking icon its directly left of the home icon, it says "switch to splash view" click it. It will put everything back in order like before just with the new shitty updated look. Should get you through.
