Conception II: Children of the Seven Stars (Vita/3DS)

When two game companies love each other very much, a magical thing happens. Atlus and Spike Chunsoft didn't use protection when localizing and publishing together and are now the proud parents of the turn-based RPG Conception II: Children of the Seven Stars. Although this is the first game in the series localized into English, Conception II has a standalone story. Conception II will be delivered in the spring of 2014, for the Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita handheld entertainment system.

In Conception II, players take on the role of a young man beginning his training as a Disciple - a human gifted with the divine powers of one of the Star Gods, and one of the few who can fight the monsters that plague the world. These monsters emanate from the Pandora Labyrinth, which births these abominations at a prodigious rate. Worse yet, the Pandora Labyrinth is beginning to spawn labyrinths of its own, so it's up to the Disciples to put an end to it. And even worse than that, a Star God's power only resides within a human until the age of 18 and the need for new Disciples is at an all-time high. Meaning Disciples will have to combine their powers to "create" Star Children who can fight for them in battle. Let's put it this way... it brings a new meaning to the phrase "after-school activities."

    Game Features

No Child Labor Laws: In addition to the protagonist and his fellow students bravely entering the Labyrinths, you must combine your powers with other Disciples to give life to Star Children, ethereal beings that can fight in battle. But, like regular children, it's important to make sure they're strong enough to face monsters from beyond the veil of sanity in battle.

No Monogamy For You, Player: The protagonist has opportunities to strengthen his bonds with seven key heroines throughout the game. Not only does this help you create stronger Star Children, but the girls become more formidable as well, making them reliable partners in battle... and other places.

Assume the Position: Monsters in Conception II all have weak spots, and their vulnerabilities are revealed based on the direction characters attack from. Colored arrows help the Disciples see which direction will cause the most damage when attacked. The order your party takes action will depend on your choices and each character's agility. Understanding the turn system and finding the best location to attack from will bring about swift and decisive victory.

Getting Chained Down: Another key system in Conception II is the Chain Drive, a meter that slowly builds during combat. When it reaches climax, a monster will be chained down, slowing it dramatically. This opens the enemy up for major damage.

Conception II will be published in North America by Atlus beginning in spring 2014 for the PlayStation Vita and Nintendo 3DS. The game will be $39.99 for either version.

ATLUS Will Publish Conception II In Europe!

It's not easy being God's Gift. The main character of Conception II has his work cut out for him. Between having to manage personal relationships with seven heroines, saving the world by fighting monsters, and figuring out his role with the overseeing AngelMarker Industries, managing the hero's time is a daunting task...

...A task so daunting, we didn't want to keep it from our fans across the Atlantic! With that, we're letting you know Conception II will be available in Q2 for Nintendo 3DS™ and PlayStation®Vita as a digital-only title in Europe.

Conception II is an RPG dungeon crawler in a fully 3D environment, punctuated with a battle system that puts emphasis on positioning around a monster. Conception II cranked the party size up to 11 (9 Star Children, 1 heroine, and you, the protagonist), so every battle is going to be a challenge! But that's only half the game - carefully managing relationships with the game's seven heroines will be just as challenging as battling monsters!

If you haven't been following Conception II, check out the latest trailer here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbZQSHvcdJI

We'll have European release timing, pricing and ratings coming soon!

It’s the first day of school, and despite being told that you’re a possible savior of mankind, it’s still nice to have a buddy in your corner who’s always got your back. In Conception II, the blunt but well-meaning Chlotz takes on that role. He admittedly is a bit of a doofus and a perpetual third wheel to God’s Gift when it comes to interacting with heroines, but he’s also a technical wizard and is constantly training to be a better Disciple. Like Ruby, the lead researcher, often notes: “For being an idiot, he’s pretty smart.”

Chlotz also deals with constantly being compared to his sister, Chloe. Not only is she one of the strongest of the heroines that God’s Gift can bring into battle, she’s also the smartest. Chlotz’s sister has numerous published works and is so smart she’s actually been promoted to teacher at the Aterra Academy. But despite living in the shadows of her accomplishments, he has plenty of his own talents and their bond as brother and sister can never be broken.

A steadfast companion from the very beginning, Chlotz is always willing to sacrifice anything to help his friends, or slap some common sense into people. Even if he’s horribly outmatched with no chance of winning, he’s always there to step in if it means he can help save a life. The same can be said for when he’s outmatched by some of the S-Rank girls. Even if he can’t win over the affections of one on his own, he’s always ready to hand out relationship insight to God’s Gift. Most of it is usually good, too!

So in a nutshell, the stranger you meet on the way to your first day of school rapidly becomes your best friend, and despite his general doofusness, lack of tact, and clownism, he winds up being one of the strongest supporting characters in all of Conception II. …Sound familiar?
    Chloe

Chloe is the older sister of your new friend Chlotz, and only a year older than your character. Her abilities are so exceptional that she works as an instructor at the Academy.

Chloe uses a Remote Turret to perforate her opponents.
    Ellie

Ellie is a first-year student who’s very energetic and often cheers on those around her. Though she looks cute and young, she’s very mature and perceptive.

Ellie uses a magical staff called a Summoning Gun to dish out serious magic damage.
    Feene

Feene is an earnest, polite third-year student. She is considered one of the strongest Disciples, and has already seen action on the front lines.

Her formidable Gunblade has seen its fair share of battles as well.
    Fuuko

Fuuko is the first female student that you’ll meet. She is bright and amicable, and quick to make friends. She sees herself as a very down-to-earth kind of person.

Fuuko uses her Dual Pistols in dungeons with deadly accuracy.
    Narika

The vice representative of your class. She is shy and reserved, without much self-confidence, but has a good heart and is very kind to others.

Her Bowgun speaks differently about her – it packs a huge punch to monsters.
    Serina

Despite her diminutive size, she is actually a third-year Disciple with
incredible power. She has a good heart, but often tries to keep her true
    feelings hidden.

Her Kick Gun is an incredible hybrid of fashion-forward footwear and death-dealing.
    Torri

As a result of being raised in a research facility, Torri is very naïve about the outside world and usually believes anything she’s told.

Torri materializes a powerful gatling gun to obliterate anything in her path.

Next up in the intro videos for Conception II's seven heroines is Fuuko! The pink pig-tailed disciple is the down-to-earth type, until you bring her with you into a dungeon and she unleashes the power of her deadly dual pistols and frost magic on enemies. Chloe is Wendee Lee. No idea who is VAing the other girls but maybe I haven't been paying attention. Chloe though.

Oh man. They know I like Narika and are going to introduce her last. This is the ultimate trolling.

    Six Classes Detailed

    Spoiler: show

In Conception II: Children of the Seven Stars, you’ll need to “Classmate”—the game’s word for breeding—with the game’s seven heroines to create an army of Star Children that can be used in battle.

Star Children inherit traits from their mother, including elemental affinity, stat focus, stat distribution, and hair color. Narika’s kids, for example, will always have high TEC, while Feene’s children will always have high defense.

A Star Child’s stats determine which of the game’s thirty classes—each with their own strengths, weaknesses, and special abilities—are available to it. In battle, you can have three teams of Star Children supporting the hero and heroine, meaning team composition is something to think about.

    Atlus detailed six classes today:

Cleric – The Cleric should be an early staple of your party. They are key for keeping your party safe with their healing skills, and once they get some experience they can even help revive Star Children should they get knocked out.

Magic Knight – The Magic Knight is a favorite in our offices for their well-roundedness. They have the brawn to be lethal attackers, skills that can exploit enemies’ magical weaknesses and enough defense to be hearty in battle.

Thief – In addition to having the most baller hats in the game, they’re a strong party addition. Not only do they have a skill that attacks and robs an enemy of an item at the same time, but they can also help out in non-combat ways by picking locked treasure chests.

Minstrel – The support role usually goes under-appreciated in RPGs, but the Minstrel is a good option for balancing magic that gives your party better stats while helping lock down enemies with crippling debuffs.

Swordis – The Swordis are one of the first classes you have access to in the game, and they’re the early game workhorses in the Labyrinth. They are well-balanced physical attackers and defenders, but make sure they’re paired up with someone who can dish out magical damage in order to create an effective team.

Warlock – Warlocks are absolute nukers against monsters with high physical defenses. They’re a strong magic option to bring into a team of children, but will be dependent on having a good counterbalance of physical attack and healing.
Star Children with common traits work better together. And a group who share the same mother will work more efficiently. But the safest way to play is to diversify your groups, keeping a damage dealer, a healer, and a mage-type in each Star Child team.
    Eight more Classes Detailed

    Spoiler: show

After detailing six of Conception II: Children of the Seven Stars‘ 30 character classes last week, Atlus has provided details on another eight this week, including the Thief and Magic Knight.

Archer – This early-to-mid game unit excels at hitting weak points with bows and tricky movement. Archers are good attackers that can add effects to their attacks, be it debuffs, status conditions, etc.

Blacksmith – This master of weaponry can wear down opponents with repeated smashing. Can break enemies’ defense, and shatter enemy power. They’re a fairly powerful unit to acquire early game, but drop off in mid-to-late game.

Bondsman – With dapper hats and tuxedo outfits, Bondsmen are late-game units that require maxing out your relationship bond with their mother. They wield lances and unlike most other units, they use Bond Points for their magic attacks and heals instead of mana.

Diva – This pop idol-like musician is a stronger version of the minstrel. This support unit requires an extremely rare item to create. But in addition to buffing allies and debuffing enemies, she can also revive her teammates.

Gun Saint – Take a paladin, give him a gun, and you get a Gun Saint. This late-game unit requires a special rare drop, but with gold armor and a powerful weapon, the GS can penetrate any armor.

Lancer – Strong attacking class that excels at building Chain gauge quickly to help immobilize units. Deals an incredible amount of damage in the right team composition, and are available mid game.

Merchant – This early game unit is great for wheeling and dealing, as well as axing monsters right in their face. In addition to strong attacks, Merchants also have the ability to summon a shop to buy or sell items, in case you find yourself mid-dungeon without enough health or mana potions.

Ranger – Rangers are quick to adapt to a multitude of roles within a party. They have effective heals, and debilitating debuff attacks. Their defense also allows them to be solid protectors. Rangers are a good mid-game choice for all but the most specialized parties.

Demo coming on March 25th, Death Robots Detailed

    Spoiler: show

Atlus will release a downloadable demo for Conception II: Children of the Seven Stars on March 25, the company announced.

Available on both PS Vita and 3DS, the demo will let players sample the game’s dungeon crawling elements. Complete the demo and you’ll earn a set of bonus goodies for use in the full game when it launches on April 15.

In addition to the demo, Atlus also shared new details about the game’s death robots. Find that information quoted below.

Let me present a nightmare scenario for you: you’ve fought your way through all the floors of an intense dungeon and are finally at the boss. All the potions you thought you’d never use are now gone, your mana is empty and the debuffs and status effects keep getting reapplied every turn you try and take them off. Hope seems non-existent…until you remember your army of Star Children can “Mecunite” and form a deadly robot that’s an elemental powerhouse!

To make these robots in combat costs the hero’s Bonding Points, so it should be used sparsely. It combines one whole team of children into a single unit, which takes on the primary element of that team. Meaning you should make sure the boss monster you’re up against is weak to that element.

Mecunite units have a mega-devastating single target attack, an AOE attack and a heal that heals allies for 100% of health, so it’s something that can easily turn the tide of battle. And since it gets its own HP/MP, you can wait until you have a team of Star Children at critical health (but that can be a dangerous line to play…)

They come with huge stat boosts too, so not only will you they dish out tons of damage, but their high speed stat gets them a lot of turns. As you might have guessed, it can quickly turn the tide of battle.

Do I get the Vita or the 3DS version. Hmm.

Any one want to steer me in the right direction? Currently I have the 3DS version preordered for streetpass and club nintendo points. But Vita will have the better visuals.

    Well, there you go.
Depends on which of those things you value more. I'm definitely getting it on Vita because I don't have a 3DS but I'd probably get it on Vita anyway.

You can run both demos and see if this is true but someone was claiming the Vita demo ran better (the Vita demo also had more to offer but they were talking more about the actual game and not the content). Both me and Charismatic are choosing Vita.

The wiki page says that 20k copies sold on Vita and 5k on 3DS, in Japan. I'm going Vita because I am a Trophy Whore.

I am going with vita for trophies/visuals. I haven't played the demo on my 3ds but i vastly prefer vita to the 3ds.
