I just read all three books recently. I'm excited for this movie and hope it does well.

That trailer got me pretty excited and I haven't read the books. I think they will go on my kindle to read. Premise looked very much like an American Battle Royale.

I'm pretty sure I read a short story back in the 80s about something very, very similar. The premise was that the USA and Russia solved the Cold War by each sending a single unit to do battle in an area. The loser had to pay the winner some kind of tribute. In the short story, the USA won after the Russians killed every American soldier but one and thought they had won, but then the last two Russians are killed by the remaining American. The American then has the right to do whatever he wants for the rest of his life and he goes to the neighbour's house to rape their daughter. I can't remember the name though.

I'll have to read these novels now.

there's still a melodramatic love triangle

but Katniss be slaying bitches left and right so it's tolerable

it's basically Twilight meets Battle Royale enwrought in revolutionary ideology and a critique of consumerism

they're gonna have to cut out / imply quite a bit to make PG-13 though, surprisingly disturbing for young adult fiction
