Thief tips off police after finding child porn during break-in

RED DEER, Alta. (CP) — A Red Deer man has been jailed after an outraged burglar spotted massive amounts of child pornography on his computer and called police.

William Mitchell, who pleaded guilty earlier this year in Red Deer provincial court, was charged in October 2005 after RCMP, acting on an anonymous tip, searched his home. An agreed statement says that someone had broken into Mitchell’s residence and taken a video camera. The camera, the tipster said, had images of child pornography and would be left on the steps of a church.

Police retrieved the camera and soon realized the burglar had videotaped a computer monitor displaying images of child pornography.

Following the address printed on the burglar’s note, police seized computer equipment containing 13,315 pornographic images.

Mitchell will remain in jail until he is sentenced on Dec. 1.

Cpl. Greg Brown of Red Deer City RCMP said outside the court that the burglary remains unsolved.

Well duh.. thats all prison does for any type of criminal. The connections and informations you can make on the inside are invaluable depending on your field of crime all the while your chance of making it legitimate on the outside are decreased cause you gotta check the little felon box when you go to apply for a job.

It used to be popular for people in prison to get college educations, but there has been an outcry from people complaining that criminals should be rewarded so states that still offer that in prison are rare.

It is probably worse for a sex offender to.. where I live the law is something like.. they can't live 5 miles from a church or a school. In the middle of the bible belt there is a church on every corner and new ones are being built everyday.

In ever sense of the word anyone that comes out of prison is more dangerous than when they go in. You get out poor with little to no chance to get a job, you've had years of training in crime, and the worst that can happen to you is they send you to prison again.

Also, alot of the time pedophile's rights are sort of violated. I say sort of because they do it through loopholes. What happens is, many pedophiles (i mean the top end, dangerous ones) who are getting out of prison, their term is over, are having 10+ more years added to their sentence so they can't get out. They are able to do this from psychiatric screening or whatever, base it off that and say they're not ready to go back and simply put them back in prison.

Some of the offenders even ask to go back, when they're getting released believe it or not. One case like that happened in my state recently, about 4-5 years ago I think, where an offender knew if he got out he wouldn't be able to stay away from little boys, so he had himself put back in prison.
