    Planet Coaster - November 17, 2016 | Console Edition (PS4/XB1) - 2020

This released today after a long open alpha/beta period and TONS of incorporated player feedback. Kinda surprised not to find a thread.

Developed by Frontier, the team that did all the heavy lifting for Atari on Roller Coaster Tycoon 3. Atari released RCT World yesterday, but fans of the theme park sim genre consider Planet Coaster the true RCT3 successor much in the same vein of Cities: Skylines > Sim City reboot.

    Official Website

    Today's Launch Trailer:

    • Supports full 2160p @60hz.
    • Dozens of new coaster, flat ride, kiosk, and stall types.
    • Thousands of new individual static/interactive theming and scenery elements.
    • Spline-based ride and path construction + an advanced new terraforming tool, makes for easy tunneling and tons of placement/head-clearance on construction elements.
    • Advanced new park management system, including new employee types, costs, expenses, revenue channels, etc.
    • Online park co-op (let your friends play your custom scenarios/build a park together).
    • Available for download from Steam, so has the full backing of the mod community. Hell, the above launch trailer features all fan-submitted parks and rides, not in-house Frontier creations.

I could go on and on, but here's some more beautiful examples of what this game can do over its predecessors. Some of the beta testers are very talented:
    Spoiler: show

Here's some examples of custom content users have implemented:

    Last Guardian Theming

    Nightmare Before Xmas Theming

This is the type of game that always gets me with the impulse buys. I loved the RCT series.

Got this over the weekend and burned like 10 hours on it yesterday. Between Planet Coaster and football, my wife's not talking to me at the moment. lol

The amount of stuff you can do with this game if you have the creative talent for it is really amazing.
I've put so many hours into this just building custom shops, entrance ways and and ride hubs. I'm loving this game right now.

Yeah, the scale of customization is intense. It's one intimidating sandbox.

Completing the objectives of any career mode scenario takes like 30 minutes even for the hardest levels, but I find myself sticking around for hours after just to customize and build out the parks to their actual boundaries.

If I have to complain about anything so far, it's the lack of Powered Launch and Reverse-Incline Launch modes. Boomerangs and shuttle loops were a cheap and eye-catching source of income. I imagine they'll implement in one of the earlier patches, though. It's been a genre-standard since the Chris Sawyer days.

Considering the last game like this I played was Theme Park on the PSX, I'm sure I'll enjoy this one lol. Aside being one of the few games that seem to actually come out of early access etc it does seem pretty cool.

Of course this comes out during Finals period

I'm still running a GTX 570 (which is like the bare minimum requirement)... Tempted to also pick up a 1050 or something similar over the holiday break

I see all the posts about the depth and stuff. I think my favorite (or last) RCT I played was 2 with the expansion. I don't usually get super intricate with these. My question is can I still do a regular park with a few roller coasters while being concerned about cleaning peoples vomit and such? More casual based, I guess.

You can. There's some pre-fab scenery/building objects you can use if you don't want to create your own intricate designs. There's also the Steam workshop.

Frontier had a panel at PAX East, revealed details of v1.2 patch coming April 11, 2017.

Among the additions, 3 new coaster types! Including...

    Arrow Suspended Coaster

    Vekoma Boomerangs! (no footage shown)

    Also new flat rides like...

    Go Karts!

    Big Wheel

And others! Also crime becomes a new mechanic.

Vandalism, Pickpocketing, Theft, and Security Guards:

    Plus new scenery:

And dozens of new ride blueprints, bug fixes (like guest pathing/queuing issues), and ride upgrades (like powered launch for B&M Batwing).

PLC is becoming the RCT successor we all wanted it to be!

Very nice additions, looking forward to it. As someone that doesn't go nuts creating custom scenery, the game felt a bit flat after I sunk a lot of time into it. Maybe this well help.

Check out the Steam workshop. Users have done the work for you, uploading thousands of their custom ride, shop, and scenery blueprints. Once you download them, you'll have tons of options at your disposal.

I want this game so bad

I dunno why but a theme park builder with this much detail looks like a ton of fun. The only problem is my current computer isn't anywhere good enough to run this smoothly with any respectable resolution

    1st Anniversary Patch is Here!

    Features:

    Picnic Tables!!!

Employee Lounge/Working Shift update (implemented last patch)

    Full Scenario Editor!!!!

    New Coasters
    • Wooden Side-Friction
    • Water Coaster
    • Intamin Stratocoaster (Hydrolic Launch)

There's a few new Flat Rides as well!

Plus New Scenery and Theming too!

In light of the BF2 fiasco, got to hand it to Frontier for its ongoing commitment to putting out massive amounts of totally free additional content for this game. Every patch has been loaded with goodies and has cost players nothing. DLC done right.

Okay wow, that Aliens coaster is seriously impressive. I don't know how long that would have taken to build, but I can only imagine hundreds of hours.
